Great video and review. Just bought this set up (Camera | Mic 2 | Remote) Had every GoPro since the 3, Thought it was time for a change!!! Looking forward to my 1st ride with it
An absolutely top notch review Jamie. The most slick presentation that I have seen so far. After seeing your earlier review I was on the verge of going for the Action 4 but now I am having a wee bit of a re-think. I recently enjoyed some rides at The North Third and my GoPro 9 Black was OK but the stabilization was 'off' somewhat. With Winter coming I like the idea of the Osmo 4 or 5 coping better with stabilization in low light. Cheers. Stoozer. 👍🏻
Hey Stooze! Good to hear from you. I see you've been adventuring a fair bit. Yeah, I love the Osmo cameras. They deffo need some pro settings to get the best footage but it is easy to do. Give me a shout if you need any settings help when you get one. Cheers man 👍
@@streetpigeonmtb Thank you Jamie, I really appreciate your support and will touch base when I choose the 4 or 5. I'm getting a sore head thinking about it. Yes I have re-branded Big Stoozer MTB to Big Stoozer Adventures to include our Camper van road trips. It seems to have had a positive affect and the Channel is now monetized albeit on a very paltry scale. I'm hitting the ripe old age of 67 and slowly 'losing my bottle' on trail stuff that I would have belted down years ago but 'hey ho' that's (old) life 😃. I should comment on your vids more but thought it best to 'leave you be' because it must be a full time job answering yours as you get so many. I'm really enjoying your vids on my new big telly especially your blast with the Yankee doodle guys. It was great watching you wear them out on the Gypsy Glen classic. Oh and the Wales trip was ace. Thanks, funny, I have an Aether 9C with with the same cap, stem, and bars so your cockpit looks very familiar! I've heard that the bitrate is really low, but it seems like your footage doesn't seem to show too many artifacts, and that could be a RUclips thing.
Loving the camera and mic setup of this, had the gopro with dji mic which was a nightmare for me to synce, and having to press sometimes three separate buttons just to start one run! Now got the action 5, means just one button to press, and no more syncing 🤩 Out of interest, what are you running your transmittor gains at when connected to the camera? Well put together video mate!
Hey mate. I run the gain as standard but enable float 32bit recording. Float 32 processes the sound at the time meaning you don't have to think about gains. It's like a dark art. Say goodbye to clipping etc!
@@streetpigeonmtb ah that's interesting, will try a few test runs with it set as per camera, and then some with the gains set differently to see if any difference 😊 So far seems a great setup, enjoyed the duel mic test I did with my daughter at the weekend, certainly adds something extra to the video 👍🏻
@ElectricMountainBiker nice. Yeah, honestly just ignore playing with gains. Turn on Float 32bit recording in the settings then the camera does the rest.

Great insight to the 5 pro 👏 To me DJi is the way to go for Action cameras..just need to save and get one. I use GoPro Hero 10..and my work colleague told me to get a DJi Osmo..I didn't listen..now I wish I did .
TBF the Hero 10 was a great camera. It just can't compete in lowlight. I've used the OA4 for sometime and will now be running the OA5. They are just a step ahead of GoPro ❤️
Hey man! Just got my Action 5 PRO and would love to have the same awesome quality of footage like yours as we have the same lighting conditions of trails. Will you please share your settings? As I don’t have any idea yet. Thanks man! Liked and subbed ❤

If I shoot a 30 minute video at 4K 60FPS with the Action 4 the files that I get in the camera would be a 20 minute file and a 10 minute file. When the Action 3 came out the files were a maximum of 5 minutes and I hated it. the A4 came out and the files were larger at 20 minutes. I'm hoping they are still at least 20 minute files.
does the external mic still have that attachment on side of camera? not sure if the 5 is a big enough upgrade for me using a 4! i'll probable wait and see what the 6 brings lol. good vid Jamie👍
With the settings I am using I have not experienced ghosting as of yet. A bit of flicker in crap light with high stabilisation demands, but I think it represents a performance improvement 👌
155 degrees FOV is ideal for MTB for me. I've not been told about a lens mod. The GoPro has wider lens options but the sensor is too small to work in lowlight effectively so it's not ideal for where I ride 👍
Of course, chest/helmet-mounted recordings are much more interesting, but they haven't worked out for my purposes (MTB/XC marathons, you can check out my yt channel). I don't like having extra weight on me, and that's why I prefer the handlebar mount. I can't find any recordings/stabilization test from the handlebar anywhere on yt.
DJI lowered the bit rate on this camera. The Action 4 had a max bit rate of 130 mbit/s. The Action 5 now has a max bit rate of 60 mbit/s in 4k 30 80 mbit/s in 4k 60 100 mbit/s in 4k 120 GoPro does 200 mbit/s when using GoPro Labs. As everyone knows, when it comes to video, bit rate is king. So this is a huge step down for the Action 5. This lower bit rate is leading to heavy compression artifacting in any video with movement. Also, if you want to reframe or zoom in, the video artifacting/muddiness gets even worse. DJI released a statement saying they did this to save battery and to help with overheating. They really dropped the ball on this one.
Yeah, I've heard this. The only thing I'd say is that I've been having better results with the OA5 in real world testing on the trails, especially down trails in low light conditions. And it can't just be about bitrate, because I've done side by side test with the GH13 and again, in lowlight, it's just miles ahead in quality. So I'm not sure what to think of this. Certainly I have an OA4, OA5, and GH13 at home ant the OA5 is the one I'm on. Have you had different results?
Looks awesome bro, been using the action 4 for about 6 months now and it’s incredible, would i upgrade to this? probably not, i feel its very much like the iphone “upgrades’ we see every year not really worth forking out another pocket of cash, unless the upgrades are gamechanging.
