This is a very useful video. There are a ton of yahoo's on youtube showing methods that are conflicting at best, or downright wrong at worst. This thoroughly explains the proper, factory procedure, and the theory/reasoning behind why it must be done. Follow this step-by-step and you can't go wrong. Thanks for uploading!
Lol.. you right there are a ton of Yahoos on RUclips showing meth heads a bunch of methed up stuff.. Yahoos stop mething around and pay attention to Mr. Tecumseh.
I'm trying to revive two small Tecumseh two stroke engines built in the '70s. This is by far the best video I've found on setting up the ignition systems! Now I understand what the manual was trying to tell me. Thanks for posting it!
Fantastic upload, thank you very much! Finally some information that doesn´t have a lot of bullshit in it like most RUclips tutorials on this subject. This is exactly how it´s done.
I have a 1974 Tecumseh HM80 and it wasn't running right. I just did the points and condenser but I only get about an 1/8" or 3.5mm max spark length on my Lisle 20700 spark tester. Is this too weak? Do you think I need to change the coil?
You loosen the screws and push the coil back a little until it doesn’t touch any more. You want the coil close to the magnets but not ever touching them.
@@waynew2831 As you rotate it, it should move closer to or further away from the magnets, but not a drastic amount, but enough to clear the laminates. I am presently working on a 7HP Tecumseh that at some point in its life, the magnets came into contact with the laminates and "upset" them slightly. I am presently looking for a new complete assembly.
Hi there! Could somebody please inform me as to what should be the impedance measurements (in ohms) for this particular magneto coil? I am suspecting the coil has gone bad but i don't know for sure so it would be great to know these figures before i use a multimeter and find out. Thanks in advance!
Thanks a lot! Very useful indeed! I had once measured this old coil and it came up with a 15,2K. I cleaned off some impurities from spark plug connection lead, and bingo! 7,6K well within specs! Also the old worn spark plug measured around 5,2K (smallest measurement) and a brand new same plug was around only 2 Ohms....so i guess it was a little bit of both (coil and plug) to blame for the no spark issue i was facing, would you agree?
It is different on the Tecumseh twostrokes, but I only have the dimensions for the european Tecumseh engines, that might make a difference. The TA and VA models fire at 3.5 mm before top dead center, the AV models at 2.5 mm. (non outboard engines)
@@v-g-z3689 Not sure of the model because the shroud is a little rusted, it's a jiffy ice auger and the model number seem to be starting with 870- ??????

Thank you for uploading. I have a v60 I'm rebuilding now, so this was exactly what I needed
One of the best videos I ever seen
Watching this takes me back 54 years when I went to 916 votech in the marine and small engine classes
Impressive presentation. If this guy is alive I hope he sees this video and all the deserves cudos he is getting here.

I bought an old chipper powered by an old Tecumseh engine. This video is very helpful, Thank you !
Now there is a guy who knows small engines!

dude awesome video. i bought the dial indicator on eaby a while back knowing i would need it. all parts where with it. i won the bid for 5.00
I will give you $10 for it.
Fantastic upload, thank you!
Veeeery cool information!!!! Awesome video upload!!! Thanks!!!
Great Video, thanks for posting it.
thx for posting this

anyone know where to get the TDC tool he's using?
Can you suggest anything for a situation where the inside of the flywheel rubs on the magneto laminate assembly?

@@georgekeats1478 The coil is not adjustable in that direction. You can rotate it, but that's all.

between 7K and 10K I believe.

My Tecumseh flywheel has 6 magnets about 3 inches each. How are they to be arranged?
Is it a ride on mower? 2 will be spark, 2 will be lights, 2 will be charging
Thank you
I wonder if the timing dimension is the same a 2 stroke Tecumseh engine ?? Here on this 4 cycles, he calls for .080, how much for a 2 stroke ??

I need one of those dial indicators.
Classic Instruction.
Anybody know who that guy is?
Thank you. I might have had a play with a barn find real mower and started chasing my tail.
I miss Tecumseh Products Co engine Division. Im thank full to own a One of there engines I’ve had it new since 1998 in Manco Products INC Gokart
