I don’t get why the game paints Ellie like a stone cold killer sometimes but then when she finds the person she’s been wanting to kill she then shows mercy 🤦🏻♂️
Because she is a stone cold killer at this point of game, she's completely obsessed with the idea of getting to Abby, with no regard to human life anymore, killing is just a tool. Ellie searches for Abby without knowing what she'll do to her when she finds her, you can see the hesitation in the scene where she packs the backpack in Jackson, she just wants the nightmares to end. I think there's two reasons why Ellie didn't kill Abby. One is that she saw herself and Joel in the bond that Abby and Lev have formed, I think she also felt disgusting by the fact that she threatened to kill Lev, a little kid. The second reason is that Abby didn't kill Ellie in Seattle day 3 when she had a chance and a good damn reason. I think that the fact that Ellie killed all of Abby's friends, including pregnant Mel, and the fact that Abby have beaten Ellie and Dina, but spared them, was on Ellie's mind all the time. In that sense sparing Abby wasn't an act of mercy, but an act of repaying a debt. Damn that's a long read.
@@boombox9509 TLOU2’s story is irredeemable drivel. If you believe that its story is innovative, bold, or risqué in anyway, you’re wrong. The narrative fails at every turn to convince us of or lead us to its message that revenge is bad. Crucial character development is missing, forgone in favor of unrelatable personality shifts among the leading characters that make no sense contextually. As a consequence, the story is deprived of meaningful conflict and motivation. It is fine to enjoy the game. It is even fine to praise the game for anything other than its writing. But to praise the writing of the narrative is simply incorrect and untenable. The story should be considered a failure of good fictional writing on 3 major accounts: (1) the fundamental premise of the plot is simply a rehashed, cliché tale that is as old as time, offering nothing new or interesting in terms of storytelling while failing to effectively convey a higher message or moral; (2) the writing fails to develop interesting or believable conflict that organically propel the plot forward; (3) and the writing fails to develop complex and nuanced characters that the audience can relate to due to its inability to construct believable character arcs.
@@ctacgidra Also crucial is that Ellie chases Abby to California not exactly for revenge but because she thinks its the only way she can make up for ignoring Joel all those years. In the water, she finally forgives Joel for lying and herself for mistreating him. Do I think the execution was perfect? No, but I think it was done okay and someone has to be actively bad faith to read the ending as just "revenge bad".
@@boombox9509I get what your saying but why was this game even made in the first place? 😂 Ellis goes through zero arc. She goes for revenge, spares the person, ends up miserable and depressed, just like she was at the start. This game was so dumb and was made completely out of order. In no universe should you be forced to watch your favorite character die in the BEGINNING OF THE GAME. And then play as the killer for 10-12 hours 😂. This game was awful
Ellie was lost at this point. She was in a mental war within herself due to unresolved guilt and PTSD from witnessing Joel's death. Even as she takes Abby down from the pillar she's not sure whether to let her go or not briefly. A flash of Joel's battered and bloody face makes her fight again. The memory of Joel playing his guitar and the unconditional love he had for her makes her let go.. ❤
Oh, my God this would have been the best scene for her to say Joel's line from the interrogation in the first one just alright I believe you then she just lights his ass up
also bc of the trauma and stuff she mentions in her journals that she cant eat so you just see her get progressively skinnier you can definitely see it in her face
I don't know, maybe I'm the only one on this, but I think they went a little too far with the "Weathered cold survivor" type with Ellie in the second game. She's basically a psychopath who kills because she can.
I agree. I didn't want to follow her on this path while playing this game, Like she gives Joel shit for what he did and tried to be better just to end up even worse by killing probably hundreds of Wolves and Scars for petty revenge.
@@Victor_Von-Doom_ogJoel only killed those who truly deserved it and Ellie in the second game would set someone on fire for looking at her wrong. I wish that tlou 2 never even came out because I’ve lost so much respect for Ellie.
i believe the point of the plot is showing a broken world with an endless cycle of death and cruelty. The way the world is portrayed in a grey picture is perfect... the set up with joel being ruthless turned back into a caring father when he meets ellie, same with abby she had love and a caring family but because of ruthless joel it made abby become ruthless ending in death. Same with ellie she was a funny loving young girl turned ruthless because of what abby did which all LEADS back to JOEL.. the links are just amazing and i will die on this hill the the last of us whole storyline is amazing.

People that say “but she didn’t kill Abby” are missing the point imo. Why would she care about these guys? She knows nothing about them and therefore she has no attachment to sparing them. More importantly, she is still on her path of darkness and revenge at the point of this guy’s death. The whole point of her forgiving Abby is letting go and leaving that path. She could only do that with Abby because of their connection to both of their fathers deaths. By Abby letting go first and Elllie letting go last, they both leave that path of destruction. And if Ellie met this guy on the road now, she most likely wouldn’t kill him because of that lesson learned from choosing to love and forgive Joel for what happened and in the process forgiving Abby as well. Damn people really miss the point of the 2nd game but when you sit with it, phenomenal game and story. Now, I do understand the appeal of going all in into having Ellie kill Abby at the end and she loses everything and herself as a consequence of that. However, I think it’s happier and better to think she chose to learn how to forgive. That scene with Joel at the end is one of my favorite scenes of the franchise. It’s tragic but also beautiful and showed that in the end, Joel knew him and Ellie would be okay. “If the Lord gave me a second chance, I’d do it all over again” always gives me goosebumps. It was not as good as the first because the first is the magnum opus of storytelling in video games imo. There was no beating it. But they had a great story and beat the first in just about every other way(gameplay, graphics, mechanics, animations, audio and OST) deserved GOT and still sticks with me as one of my favorite games of all time.
Everyone complaining she didnt kill Abby.... THAT WAS THE POINT! SHE REALIZED SHE TOOK MORE THAN SHE LOST AND THAT SHE WAS ABOUT TO DO THE SAME THING ABBY DID TO HER TO LEV! She even references this in her song The Guardian written by real life artist shawn james "kill or be killed what a way to live and die I just cant see the cycle ever ending so ill become the bringer of death the lover of life the one who guards from the dark of the night ill be the hammer of war.
@@boombox9509wow this is the best explanation I've heard so far
Bro told her everything she needed to know before knowing she'd spare him💀
I was expecting her to say "By the way.. I'm immune." Before popping him. Woulda been perfect.
Would've been even worse.
That would be so damn petty just telling a dead man you could have been the hope of this world just to kill him in that same breath.

Oh, my God this would have been the best scene for her to say Joel's line from the interrogation in the first one just alright I believe you then she just lights his ass up
You can almost hear her say “I believe you” like Joel
I notice ellie started bulking up building muscle as the game went on. Its real subtle
also bc of the trauma and stuff she mentions in her journals that she cant eat so you just see her get progressively skinnier you can definitely see it in her face

I don't know, maybe I'm the only one on this, but I think they went a little too far with the "Weathered cold survivor" type with Ellie in the second game. She's basically a psychopath who kills because she can.
I always thought that Ellie was a mass murderer in her previous life 😅
I agree. I didn't want to follow her on this path while playing this game, Like she gives Joel shit for what he did and tried to be better just to end up even worse by killing probably hundreds of Wolves and Scars for petty revenge.

i believe the point of the plot is showing a broken world with an endless cycle of death and cruelty.

Another episode of Ellie kills everyone BUT the person she actually want to.
“I swear” what beautiful last words
The stupidest storyline I’ve ever played.
Kill anyone who stands on her way but not kill Abby because the revenge is wrong 😂😂😂 ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!
Justice and mercy dont live side by side so in retribution ill abide."
