Why wouldn't you also include the option of setting a custom path to a specific world? Especially for people trying to run the server on a different device where Valheim was initially installed?
You missed the bit where we take the file from a local server, and copy it over to a friends dedicated server. I dont think I need the steam_autocloud.vdf file but your video makes it seem like I do. This is just the most vague way you can describe this process ever.
so far you don't need it, i have tried to copy my friends world data into my folders without copying the steam_autocloud.vdf file and it works, i think this autocloud is just an auto save function that doesn't need to be copied

Well. I used this guide. Followed the steps. Created the batchfiles etc. etc. Now when I start the game, the world is there, but all the structures, houses, ships, bridges everything except me and my brothers characters are gone...... :)
I don't know what I'm doing wrong but every time I do it it creates a new world. And it also overrides the same name. So when I try and lock back into it all the progress is lost. Fortunately I have backups for some reason I can't get the server to use a previously saved world
Nope, just recently got into Valheim. I figured maybe someone still had a github link that had older versions. Id rather not go the Valheim+ route considering the compatibility controversy going on with it. But if its a lost cause then client hosting is going to be my method.
@@BassBoostPlus oh I didn’t know there was controversy atm. I play vanilla and shortly after leaving this comment decided to host from my own machine. The price you have to pay for online hosts is nuts for a quality world. Best of luck in your adventures!

First I couldn't find the file in the FTP! So I made a new folder on my desktop and found the original copied it and used a FTP program to successfully copy my world file onto the server world save file. Now the save world wasn't working or showing up, after countless tries and I kept getting a new map even after renaming. So instead I just Rename everything that same files name and turn off the ingamelist button and now it shows up! Everything is there! Hope this helps everyone!!!!!!! XD

Hmm the server connects, I enter my password it allows me to enter, I enter the password again and it says wrong password? I edit the server.bat and I’m entering the password set here. Is this not the correct one?
So how does the in game time work? does it just keep going as long as my computer is on? also if that is the case, would I be under constant attack even if no one is playing but the server is running?
In my worlds folder I don't have any .db or .fwl files. It's only steam_autocloud.vdf. Do I need to download my world file from steam cloud somehow? I don't suppose I can just add that filename as the server?

I had the same issue. My issue is that i changed the name. the world file was "jasemi" but i changed it to "NewWorld" to match the servers already set world name. but the Save file has a internal hook that looks for the other file with the buildings in it. So you can't change the map name.
After everything my cmd keeps stopping at 'Unloading 15 unused assets to reduce memory' and gives me the total ms for it all. It never continues and doesnt show on my server list on steam

Are there any ways to lower ping, my ping even over ethernet with a 1Gb connection gets 66-101 for ping and that's just for me, it's higher for others.

Very nice guide. I can't however seem to connect via my own computer in the end. I see the server on the server list and everything. I forwarded both in firewall and router. On my router however I have internal and external host boxes. I put my ip in the internal host and the ports and such as you showed. Should I fill in external host box too? The error I recieve is just failed to connect. Edit: I think I had an old map from an older version. It worked when I tried a new map.

Hello everyone, I just setup my first dedicated server. I can see the Server in my own menu when I go under "Select World". However I cant see it when I go to join game in the list with all the other servers people have made. Is that normal that I cant see my own server there? Or does this mean that I have made a mistake and the dedicated server is not correctly set up?
nothing is working, i've done everything exactly right ! 1 million videos later still doesn't show up on my server list! also my "start_server_headless" opens "windows\system32\cmd.exe" it doesnt even say the name of the file???
Can I just leave the command prompt running so other players can play on my dedicated server or does the game have to be running at all times? It defeats the purpose of having a dedicated server if other players can't play on it without you.
I am playing with a bunch of friends currently and what we do is just copy and paste the world data onto online file sharing platforms, so just copy 4 files and upload it onto a shared platform, then whoever wants to open the world just needs to copy those files and they can open the world with all the saved progress on it
@@switzmoto yes they have to paste the 4 files into the same folder location, the Iron Gate > Valheim > World but make sure that they do not already have a similar copy with that name in their files or else it will clash
Stupid me spent a lot of time troubleshooting what I was doing wrong. Turned out having the ".db" at the end of the -world file name was causing my problem to where a new world was being generated each time. So changing from -world "filename.db" to "filename" fixed my issue.
Really need your help. I saw your video about moving steam games from one pc to another. I followed every step but when I opened steam in the new pc the only option was to "Stream" the game.
Hi, sorry this is a bit late, but you may want to head into the game and copy your files locally, as the game usually just defaults to the cloud. Just head into the game, click manage world, and copy locally and it should be moved there. Hope that helps!

based off this tutorial, if you can gain access to the files saved on that server, you should be able to pull em. If you dont have a direct access to the machine you might want to contact your host to see if they can retrieve the file folder for you. Best of luck.

These are saved in another place afaik, but should not matter much, because you can play any character on any world.

As soon as i heard your voice I went to hit the like button, but then thought... hold on he hasn't helped me yet! So no matter what I do my server always starts a new seed 'world' and none of my progress transfers even though I have the exact file name copied over into the world part of the .bat file. Also I can only find it locally with 2000 ping and cannot connect or find it via my internet IP address... why?

i know im late here, but i every time i start a server it just has anew world. my world wont load.

For anyone finding an empty Worlds folder in their AppData; try looking in Steam>userdata>85288733>892970>remote>worlds instead.

you have to join the world through the server UI from the steam client View>servers>etc

for some reason epicgames files pop up form the search, but after like the tenth try for some reason it decided to work

You should of showed the server files folder were the world fold was for them. Cause on a fresh server download the worlds folder is not created.

Thats a different world, when I did it it made two servers. you always keep your inventory going throughout servers
