With Valheim just being released for console (and me being the usual designated architect of the group) I can't wait to really dive into the building and see what kind of awesome structures I can come up with. These tips are definitely going to be used.
One thing about most of these beautiful home building videos is that they mostly all use cheat mode to build and they are almost always in the meadows. Building in the game actually serves a purpose for base defense and a location to use your different workbenches. Cheat mode isn't available on a multiplayer server and all those resources take lots of time to acquire and all that detail brings slower frame rates. So my bit of advice is to try to moderate what you build to be functional and thrifty. That's the real skill to building. Finding that sweet spot where your base is useable and reasonably safe without resorting to the eyesores of making earthen barriers and moats. It's part of the game that can bring a challenge and some fun and not leave you hours of resource gathering and time trying to make pretty buildings. You can always do that in cheat mode on your server or single player game if you just need to showoff. It's just one way to avoid early burn out and loading down a multiplayer server with items and lag.
I've nee playing since it dropped on xbox and I looooooove the building more than any other game I've played. 3 days ago I started a big storage warehouse for me and my buddies so its time consuming but it'll be great when it's done!
I know this is an old comment, but if you still play the game and don’t know you can use right thumb stick (pushed in) to change lock on making it much easier to connect things together. I’m on Xbox, but if your on PS it should be the same I assume.
@@mikeyoung9810 its so insanely difficult to lag a server for valheim but usually hardware becomes the issue first. i.e having hundreds of buildings lagging my friends

If there''s a high spot on one side and a low spot on the other, you stand ON the slope that is too aggressive and flatten, it will make it less steep (and also lower the high point slightly)

I just started playing Valheim a few weeks back. I'm so glad you're still playing and making videos, because you make really good content. Funny thing is that I live about 30 minutes or so from their studio. Turns out, it's very small group of local college students (about 5 or 6 people) that are developing the game. @bastiat I dunno, I love the realism in this game. Especially with the building, the fact I'm forced to make foundations and structures to keep my house up makes it look even prettier in the end. Basically, the realism feels like just enough to be a nice detail but not so much it's annoying

The builds you do are absolutely incredible and I am a huge fan of the cinematic building and showcasing of builds. It is great to be able to have these on in the background while working or doing anything really! I would say that, as a complete trash tier builder myself, I really enjoyed this video as well! I know that the two main issues with doing crazy builds like this in Valheim is that 1. They are extremely labor intensive with planning, building and editing and 2. Valheim has some sparse content drops as well. I personally would love to see you even go back through some of these videos and maybe do voiceovers where you explain just how you are creating some of these great features. If you do have the time, this could effectively "double" your video output (Say you release a cinematic, and the week after you release a duplicate video with the commentary, tips, things that worked and didn't, etc). But again, you would need the time in the first place haha! Either way, the caliber of builds on this channel are second to none, and I will always enjoy the fantastic content you all drop!

My buddy and I just randomly saw this game out on gamepass and decided to check it out. We are both pale ass white dudes with Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian bloodlines and figured “why not try it out” 2 hours in we were hooked. Looking forward to watching more of your videos as we create our own Viking world and bring new friends to our adventure
Tip 10, the way I describe it: it's not a bug that gets fixed by raise-ground; the terrain can only be moved so much up or down by the hoe from where it started -- if it isn't moving any more, it's gone as far as it can. Using raise-ground or pickaxe can then bump it a unit up or down, which the hoe then has a new margin for adjustments at that spot.
i just started valheim a couple days ago and seeing how much you can do with the building system just blows my mind. so far i've been building very basic houses that just serve my basic needs of a workbench, bed and camp fire. i did however build a chimney in one of my houses. that's the most advanced thing i've done so far. :)

The details of this game are really amazing. I avoided puttin a lot of time in building first cause i am more a fight oriented Soulsborne player, but now that i gave it some time i really like to mess around with improving my home, function and also looks-wise

Bruh… this was friggin dope. I just started playing Valheim on Xbox and just made my first legit house (not a janky one-room cabin) last night. This is super helpful! Thank you!
I want to ask something about the roof support. How do you make your roof at least yellow (the support indicator)? Mine always turn to red or even break. I connected wood beams and poles to it, but it made the interior kinda messy. Also, how do you use core wood for support? Is it like the iron beam one where you connect a few of them for the foundation?
As someone who’s new to Valheim, and super into building, I found this video super helpful. Until now I didn’t have a good grasp on the whole terrain mechanic 😅.

The snapping tricks was the most useful, I'm planning to build a big dock house/ storage shed, so I'll use the snapping trick and the ladders in the water
Well for what's it worth, here's another positive comment, thanks to you and the plentiful building channels on youtube for valhiem you have greatly aided me in filling out all the skill to truly make something magnificent to live in
I never would of thought to use the ladders as a skylight. Great ideas. I will be sure to use some of these in my next build. Thank you for all the tips.
Almost a year later and I still find some of these tip useful. Like the chanderlie and flatening ground. I haven't reach bronze age yet so that why I was getting frustrated with the hoe when it sometime refuse to raise the ground to my liking, now I know that I have to reach certain age ingame to get the tool to raise ground. Massive tips, thank you so much. The building over lake or water and basement tip are very nice but I always prefer higher ground like mountain, cliff side and tree house.
I'm actually really really enjoying building in Valheim. I'm always the builder in the group. Anytime there's a survival game with construction my crew instantly ask "So where are you making the house?" Followed by "How much supplies do you need?" Lol Also the game just released for Xbox and I can finally play Valheim and I'm loving it!
The only things I consciously did here was the storage shelves and raising ground for fireplaces. Everything else, especially placing beams first before the rest of the house, is super helpful.
Great video, thank you. There is nobody who is capable of building something worse than me. No one attacks my home as they feel sorry for me when they see the monstrocity.
Love the live commentey style video. Nice edition. Hope to see more good content from u and valheim. Ur buildings are a great inspiration and I learn alot.
Purchased this game a few days ago, been into building games since Minecraft 1.5.2 so many many years, was about to throw in the towel on this game, but using your tips I'll give it one more go.
I was doing quite a few of these consciously and a few without realizing exactly how it worked (double placing for snap points) The stairs for skylights is inspired. Will be incorporating that into my next build I think my friend and I will be bringing our old, grizzled characters into a fresh world for Mistlands. I’ve also backed up our current world, and bringing a few of the more involved crafting tables and upgrades forward. I’ve mined and refined enough ores for now…lol Really excited to hop back in to the new update tho
The one problem with the stairs for skylights is they will rot in rain, which will throw the cosmetics off, so a roof over that will be needed, but at the same slope should be hard to notice from inside, though a bit obvious from the outside.
Great tips. The snap trick is cool. I think i just hold shift to get it to place then see after. Using the ladder one is one and only just recently saw it used in another video i watched yesterday with a longhouse. All together they will help greatly. yet to be honest, watching the vids is like relaxation therapy while taking it all in and seeing and understanding the creativity at work.
Instead of placing a beam to find a snap connection, I press Q to change the snapping point. helps alot when working with vertical poles (like building a dock and the support poles go underwater). Hopefully this helps out!
I worked out getting a cauldron to work over a hanging brazier(with a spice rack, even). For out in the field, I think the campfire over an iron beam method might be better, since less resources to carry around for it and wood is more readily available as a fuel That aside, the snap trick and leveling bits are quite handy. I will have to remember them.
I know this video is a year old, so I don’t know if it’s a new option, but on Xbox we have an option to change how the snap function works. On controller with the default controller layout it’s right thumb stick pushed in. There are many different options and it makes building so much easier.
1:48 When building on water its best to use a Cart to stand on in the water for it float and if you still need extra room to go lower sit down on the cart and youll be able to access even more
...my current play through with 110 hours logged in total on all of Valheim I have a three story building built with nothing more than the starting beams. It did take some reworking as the roof above the third floor would not stay up. I added four structural beams to the center of the building, and supported the floor of both the second and third floor using beams that come of the four central supports in V shapes, these reinforced the second and third floor to the point where I actually removed the original four structural beams that were closer to the exterior of the building. I will say the third story is only maybe a four by three or four by two room I can't remember right now it may even be 5 by 3. But it is solid, and currently I don't use it for anything it's just access to the upper deck which is used as an archers nest durring raids. The Dec area (including the interior space of the building ) is I think could be as large 7x7 or 8x8 I would have to log in and get the count. But this structure only took moderate rebuilding durring the process as the original structure would not support the roof. But as explained that has been solved with about 5 minutes of additional work on core support.
ty so much some good tips , i had started using frames after I saw you guys doing it makes it so much easier to see what you a re doing and I also use it if I am trying to plan out stone builds which I am still getting to grips with.
If you want to place a support beam on something that it won't snap to, instead of placing multiple beams, just cycle through the snapping options until you see "top" or w/e is applicable for your situation. Much easier, requires the same number of inputs.

I haven't reach bronze age yet so that why I was getting frustrated with the hoe when it sometime refuse to raise the ground to my liking, now I know that I have to reach certain age ingame to get the tool to raise ground. Massive tips, thank you so much. The building over lake or water and basement tip are very nice but I always prefer higher ground like mountain, cliff side and tree house.
great video for first time players! I love building aspects of games, this was really helpful to get me ahead of the learning curve!
This was very helpful, thank you so much! And your buildings are just awesome! I watch them as an inspiration when I grow tired of woodchopping. 😅
Thanks alot I was having alot of issues with a 3 story house. I didn't realize the iron beams should be used. Very good information. 👍
I'm actually really really enjoying building in Valheim. I'm always the builder in the group. Anytime there's a survival game with construction my crew instantly ask "So where are you making the house?" Followed by "How much supplies do you need?" Lol
Also the game just released for Xbox and I can finally play Valheim and I'm loving it!
I've never even heard of this game, but these buildings look amazing. Makes me really want to buy this game now.
Spent 4 hours chopping wood and framing my house last night. It actually helps way more than you think.
Tip 7 is solid gold. Great idea.
Tip 10 as well!
Nice video ! I have to say i really missed your videos
You build great buildings and houses. Thanks for the great suggestions and tips.
All of your builds are GORGEOUS, absolutely gorgeous 😻😻
(first video of yours that I’ve seen, definitely subscribing)
The only things I consciously did here was the storage shelves and raising ground for fireplaces. Everything else, especially placing beams first before the rest of the house, is super helpful.
You have a voice?! OMG! lol Love this video and the tips. Your builds are always so impressive. Good stuff!
Great video, thank you. There is nobody who is capable of building something worse than me. No one attacks my home as they feel sorry for me when they see the monstrocity.
Just started playing valheim again and these tips are really helpful! Thanks for the tips
Love the live commentey style video. Nice edition. Hope to see more good content from u and valheim. Ur buildings are a great inspiration and I learn alot.
I love you vetlive your builds inspired me to play this game
Your builds are gorgeous. Thank you for the video
The best valheim video I've seen. Thank you!
Purchased this game a few days ago, been into building games since Minecraft 1.5.2 so many many years, was about to throw in the towel on this game, but using your tips I'll give it one more go.
I love that skyroof thing, definitely gonna do it for my own build soon.
Amazing video, so many sneaky and awesome easy tips. Sir, you've reignited my building spirit!
You can use E while trying to place beams and what not and it gives you different snap options like top snap and bottom snap. It's works great
For the snapping (tip 1) just cycle the snapping with Q or E on your keyboard. With columns it can snap to top, bottom or auto
Love the tips and tricks and LOVE the builds you ve done
New to valheim, these tips are brilliant. Thank you
Instead of placing a beam to find a snap connection, I press Q to change the snapping point. helps alot when working with vertical poles (like building a dock and the support poles go underwater). Hopefully this helps out!
Thx so much just moved to pc from Xbox and saw Valheim was on gamepaas, was getting frustrated with the build mechanic this helped alot.
I worked out getting a cauldron to work over a hanging brazier(with a spice rack, even). For out in the field, I think the campfire over an iron beam method might be better, since less resources to carry around for it and wood is more readily available as a fuel
That aside, the snap trick and leveling bits are quite handy. I will have to remember them.
I’m a carpenter by trade and I’m having a whole new appreciation for building on this game rather than just whacking greylings 😂
I like to use stone floor for the base, even less terraforming before building, then level around to get rid of the bumps at the entrances!
"you can do this as high as ya like" . im sold, lets pack a fresh one and get to building
this is brilliant and will definitely help me in building a home in the future. thank you for posting this!!
