The VW bus is one of my favorite vans. Seeing you without power steering was hysterical. Personally love no power steering, feel more connected to the vehicle.

After watching all of your old videos through Nepal, stealth camping in the Ford Galaxy, to the Fiat Ducato build - I can't believe the production value and presenting skills now. I had a 1972 Westie for over 20 years and we managed to put 160,000 kilometres on it, mostly with two adults and two kids. Great vehicle and mostly reliable.
    The one in your video is in lovely general condition, I imagine that some restoration has been done. I expect that the engine trouble is a minor problem, probably something dirty or needing adjustment.
    It's not a 1972 model though, it's a later model.

Without doubt our favourite is the T25 Westfalia California, it took us across the UK and Europe many times, a brilliant van with a layout you'll find in the modern vans. If you can find one give it a go. Can't wait to see what you drive next 😁👍🏻👍🏻

  • @kaffeetasse9455
    @kaffeetasse9455 3 месяца назад

    That was a fun video.
    I've had a similar experience with my 71 T2, looks like one of the idle channels on the carb was blocked so it went out when it is warm and the auto choke wears off. It starts normally if you leave the Ignition off for about 5 minutes, since the choke will reengage.
    Also in general, if you're trying to start it with an already warm engine, you'll have to start it with full gas, and NOT pumping it. Otherwise you'll drown the engine, which seems to have happened most of the time.
    To clean the idle channels you have two nozzles on the right side of the carb, which can be cleaned fairly easily by piercing through with a small needle/wire and blowing them out by hand. A temporary fix is to turn the topmost screw on the gas lever in the back out as much as it goes, which will add some gas all the time without you having to hold it down.

Cooker was under the front passenger seat, toilet, 2 hammock beds in the pop up bit, double bed at the back, big table in the middle, even a storage cupboard. Lots of happy memories of traveling up and down the Pacific Coast in our 69 Westy back when I was a kid, though without the breakdown problems you experienced. The fold down bed was pretty comfortable but I was young enough to sleep in the cot in the pop-top or hammock set up above the front seats (I could see the mounting brackets on the A-pillars.) Ours didn't have the stove so there was a rear-facing seat in that space. I really miss our 64 splitty too.

    Recipe, boil cut up chicken pieces, then transfer into a pan, pour cut up pineapple into a pan, add peppers chopped,, put inyo a wrap, with a spot of mayo. You can add chips and put in a pitta, but in a wrap without chips is nice too.
    Must say a hilairious video Will. Fairplay not crashing the VW, im sure John jas watched this and either laughed or gone out and hugged his van,that it got home safe. She is absoluteky beautiful.

    This series is good, very entertaining. Regarding the VW, me thinks that it still has the infamous Solex carb installed; total nightmare, over-engineered crap. I've had experience of the carb's accelerator jet popping out, getting sucked into the inlet manifold, and completely ceasing the engine of my Beetle (many years ago). A carburetor for the masochist. Keep up the good work Will.🙂

    My old boss had one of these! I had the task of cleaning it up for refurbishment. I seem to remember the fuel system was very bad, constantly blocking! Old vehicles like this are relatively easy to fault find I found anyway 😂 Very beautiful camper 👍🏻

    What a beauty Will! Absolutely gorgeous VW Westfalia! At least your upper body and arms got a good workout with the steering, speaking of which, I can't believe the size of the steering wheel! It was massive! 😂🤣
