6:45 she is 182cm 😉 ( maybe )
portable with an awning on it? portable where exactly other than your driveway.
Did you know you can get twist locks for tying into the corner blocks?
You can even get twist lock riser legs for levelling them.
Do you make hole so if water (or condensation), happen inside your square pipe, it can drain out of it ?
I am in the midst of using Better Help. Now I know where the outrageous fee for their service goes
Very cool build! My slightly older back was watching Riley carry the welder up the ladder on the roof and thinking “but the skid-steer is right there!!”.
I was thinking the same thing. Put a pallet on the skid steer, put the tools (and maybe some materials) on the pallet, and the use the skid steer to lift the pallet up flush-to or slightly overhanging the roof. Or does the skid steer not lift that high?
I was thinking the same thing. lol
me 3
I'm 70, and busted to sh*t. Use the equipment you have and you will hurt a lot less at 70.
Same here. I feel your pain.
Don’t lift heavy welders by yourself, that’s why you have a skid loader and a beautiful operator to lift it for you! Save your back for important things, like lifting your kids and grandchildren!
A colleague of mine got a debilitating spinal injury carrying a piece of timber up a ladder as a carpenter. Got off balance, fell off the ladder and landed on his feet still with the timber on his shoulder. The compression popped discs in his back. Had to leave his career, years of crippling pain. Finally saved up and flew to Germany from Australia for some revolutionary new surgery that cost tens of thousands of dollars. All to save a little time or renting some lifting equipment.
I can't believe Oliver is already 1 year old. Time goes by so fast. Happy birthday little man.
I Love that you told us who the tiny home is for….now we can anticipate your Moms first impression. What a wonderful, thoughtful and loving family you have. Happy Birthday Oliver!
Hope she doesn't watch these videos.😅
Next on your build list could be a basket for the forks for the welder. Bro!! you have a skid steer!!! Don't trash your back!!! 😂😂
You should call this container "Al Capone's Vault" (because there was nothing inside 😁).
Hand carries welder to top of container, meanwhile the skid steer is sitting idly by. 🤔😂
As a hot rod builder and fabricator, I love working with metal but I would have done this project with wood and just welded Simpson Strong Tie brackets to the container to mount the wood. No need to drill any holes or worry about leaks. The steel looks really cool though and is going to be super strong. Can't wait to see how it comes out.
If you wanted to construct a timber roof on your container, you could weld "U shaped" lugs to bolt the wooden trusses, no leaks, and removable.
Have you considered dampness from condensation and human perspiration? A dehumidifier could be a solution, apart from fitting vents.
Happy cake-day, Oliver. I hope it is chocolate 😃
Bolt holes can also be sealed easily enough with rubber washers, dektites, good quality sealants etc.
Riley has always been a great welder! Courtney can drive heavy equipment like a pro & Oliver is the STAR of the show! Happy Birthday Oliver!🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Great idea and nice work
Saw the army tractor and now I see why Riley needed to get a CDL
Can't wait for further episodes on the tiny house.
Wishing you all the best.
Happy birthday Oliver
Enjoy your time together
You two are just amazing. I've been able to watch your whole North Idaho series and I wanted to say thank you for inviting us along. I've been picking up some vibes, which I'm guessing, is a sign of stress which worries me. What you started and where you are now is so beautiful but so demanding. It is so important to take great care of each other and your little helper. I'm looking forward to watching you for a long time.
Riley, you are a master at angles and fabrication... I love your ability to think on the fly!
金靜陳龍全阿龍全
welder + pallet + skid steer = happy back, but i admire your work ethic.
The back of the old army truck is quite high too come to think of it.
Literally one of only two channels I'm subscribed to. I love all your videos even the ones that don't do well like the train!
Thanks for watching and supporting all of our crazy ideas! 😉
I'm waiting for the train to upgrade to a route around the property.
You need to make your self a welding cart with fork pockets so you can lift it with the skid loader
I like the old Army Horse in the background - getting tractor trailer licence and this build now make a lot of sense. GL and all the best with your new ventures
Dang, what happen to closing the storage area in? I use Diablo blades as much as possible, try 3M Cubitron for grinding, awesome! Yes, you will feel it, I'm 65 and WOW.
What a great idea to build a container home for your mom when she comes to visit. (Guess you could use it as a place when other people come to visit) Riley you have a skid steer to lift things and use as a work platform. What’s with the other army truck? You got your CDL .So that has something to do with the truck. Happy Birthday to Oliver . What’s next on the build?
If you build a bunker, make sure to not only make it water tight, but also insulate it very well. My parents had a bunker built of concrete with a lot of rebar under our house, it's absolutely water tight but every summer it gets very wet on the inside due to moisture condensating on the walls, because in 1978 they did not think of insulating it from the outside. Nice tiny house you're bulding for Courtney's mum, so loving! ❤
I'm !ooking forward to more videos about it and maybe a bunker! 👍
Bunker could double as root cellar!
@@toms6213Sure it will, or for any other storage which can easily be removed, when you need it as a shelter! Better you can use it when you don't need it for it's origin purpose.
Riley, your skills are fantastic. I wish that I lived closer to you guys because I live for projects like all of yours. I have a huge appreciation for all that you & Kourtney do together. I have a great wife, but she has no idea on the work that I've done on all my projects over the years we've been together ( 40 plus years ). I can't wait until Oliver is big enough to join you.
Hello from the Netherlands.
At 02:29 in the background of the video we already know for sure that you have the new truck and have take it home.
thanks for the video Courtney and Riley .
Kind regards, Hollandduck
Nice job again, you two, Man, I used to do this stuff, and I miss it. I am 73, and my knees do not work very well. I used to use whatever ever I had on hand as I hardly ever had money. In my later years, I could actually afford to buy new material. It sure was nice to be able to afford to buy it. I made a 10 by 14 little stall for my nephews horse back in the day and I had saved a lot of cut of pipe so I welded them togather to make pipe long enough it took for ever to do that luckly someone saw and donated a few longer pipe. Later years If I needed something, just go buy it, well, with in reason, you know, keep your needs within your budget. If something broke down, it sure was nice to be able to afford to fix it or get another one. Anyway, keep on having fun while you can.
This was so thoroughly enjoyable, and it's so satisfying to see both of you working together on this great little project for your Mom. Courtney, I absolutely love your sense of humor.
The next time you need your welding machine in height, don't forget you have a skid steer loader. With it you could move the welding machine up and down on a pallet
Happy Birthday Oliver. I was 66 on the 13th of this month. Hell time flies in.
Hey I turned clickety click as well in January. How you doing yet?
@@brianternes1190 Surprisingly still alive lol. This sorting out of pensions is a pain in the ar$e but hey ho will get there. Happy belated Birthday to you.
Might want to invest in a hand held plasma cutter. I learned how to cut steel with a gas torch about 45 years ago. The great news is a plasma cutter effortlessly cuts steel. The bad news is even for a guy like me, it shows every single imperfection in the line I'm drawing if I do it freehand. I use a steel ruler to the protective wire around the head and it shears it very nicely. Be really careful with the air pressure. I forgot to turn mine down and blew out the head. That'll be another torch head in my case.
Well done on the fabrication and you will feel it when you're 55-60. Mine hit when I was 57. Anything I broke or hurt as a kid has come back to hurt.
Cant wait for the next video! When Oliver grows up he will have a lot of videos to go through! You are both his legacy! Love from Greece!
What a wonderful little guest cabin for your Mom!
I can't wait to see the finished product and the look on mom's face when you tell her its her away from home home. Happy belated 1 year birthday Oliver 🎂❤️
I love this!
A friend of ours used a 20' container as a guest house. My favorite part is he installed a sliding glass door on the end where the doors are and added a patio. He left the doors so they could be closed when the guest house wasn't in use. But being able to open the doors to the beautiful view is amazing. And this really opens the small space up.
Oh guys that’s such a great and thoughtful idea for your Momma and I’m sure other guests. Courtney you looked so happy being back to projects with Riley. Oliver is growing so fast.
Honestly, my favorite part of watching you guys is watching the weather in your videos and trying to remember the weather I was experiencing each day and then figuring out what day you were filming on, some of the time I’m like oh yeahhh the weird off on off rainy day😂😂. Cheers, excited for new content
I know that the ends have a strong frame for that container but that middle can'tilever roof section may need something internally going from the top all the way down to the bottom inside the container to help support it. It wouldn't need much probably a 2x5 box section 1/8 in thick to make sure that wall doesn't get crushed. Just a thought, awesome video!! Can't wait to see how it turns out.
How can Oliver be 1 year old already!? As a grandma, I know your mom is enjoying her time with you. Can’t wait to see the tiny when it is finished. Hasn’t the weather been great here! I have been getting my garden in!
…young Riley’s back vs. old Riley’s back…take care of that back. I thought I was invincible when I was younger…fast forward…4 back surgeries…3 discs fused! It’s real Riley. Definitely one of the best RUclips channels out there appreciate you sharing your family’s experiences with us! I’m your neighbor in Wyoming. 🤠
Riley,
Man to man. Youre right. I got help about 20 years ago; one of the best decisions of my life. Its been instrumental in everything i do as a person, friend, father, manager.
🤜🤛. Glad they continue to sponsor you.
i was watching the new steel slowly rust as you went along lol . amazing how fast that happens
I really like this build. I've been a welder for 35 years, so I really like that you used all metal framing.
Hey - try using the skid steer to life heavy stuff onto the container roof (re: welder) … put a palette on the forks, and voila!
So enjoy watching all your projects at 75 years young. Wishing I had known guys like you when I was younger. Great videos. Thanks.🙏🏼 ❤
Happy Birthday Oliver 🥳. That is so sweet for the tiny house for your Mom, Courtney 🥰.
I have no idea why but I love your building with metal and the welding. My Dad used to be a welder so that may be why!!❤
i get impressed all the time how life smart you two are! the creativity with these clamps is insane! keep it up
What a fantastic thing to do for your Mom. Riley and Courtney i love watching your adventures. cant believe Oliver in a year old now. Happy Birthday little man.
With your nice track loader maybe build a platform/ basket to work off of? Humping a welder up an extension ladder is a hard way to go.
You should use the metal that's in this picture to make gutters for your barn -19:50
We have to say it is sssooooooo fun watching you 2 work together. And bless you for doing BIG little things like this for your MOM.
Happy Birthday Oliver! It's great that you are building a tiny home for Courtney's mom.
Remember what you said about “older me not liking the heavy lifting “…..older you begs you to go easy. 😊. I still remember the lifting that caused me to have to get a knee replacement. Use your skid steer to lift the welder to the roof. Your future knees and back will thank you!
PRO TIP: for the roof leak on your wood trusses attaching to the barn container that is leaking; use butyl tape. Well known for its excellence in marine applications. Wrap the exterior of the bolt holes.
Also, have you considered vaulting the ceiling of your tiny home? You could also add some sweet upper triangle windows for light.😮
To stop the leaks in the tops of the Container shop roofs, try to remove the nuts in the ceiling and add a washer with caulking on top and retightening the nuts.
What a cool Idea. Mom will love it. Making it a self contained home is such a good idea.
Your little man is growing so fast, and he's so cute. He's a happy little guy, but he has good reason to be.With you two as parents, growing up where you live, his future is going to be fun!
Love seeing a design come together. Great job you two!
You two are so amazing.
Nice job guys. Lucky Grandma!
This is really nice… For your Mom!! Everyone’s privacy!!!
That is so kind of you two to build that for Courtney’s Mom. It’s the least you can do for her, since she raised you. I think she did an excellent job! IMO you don’t turn out this kind, smart, humorous and giving on your own. Now we know how Oliver will turn out.
I also live in North Idaho so this is awesome to see someone so close be able to do some great things on here!
I absolutely love your channel. I actually started watching recently and have going backwards. I am currently watching you two build your home working on getting everything plumb and level before installing the roof. I have to say Riley has either been building his confidence with every episode or is just having the most amazing time doing all the great projects you two have been doing. Please keep it up !!
What an amazing project that you’re doing for your mother! It looks like it’s going to be absolutely fantastic. Happy birthday baby Oliver.🎉😊
When you decide to finish and sell your plans, try the next design with steel hangers, so you can attach the roof with no leaks, but then finish out the framing with wood beams. I mean, you do have a CNC plasma cutter that could make beam brackets pretty easily…It could add a nice architectural element to the design as well.
No penetration required...... The roof I mean when you attach it..... you construct it and then attach it from the Underside to the Container with brackets welded to the steel edge and corners! Wooden roofs are much easier to insulate well and are therefore Warmer and also Much Much Quieter then Metal roofs esspecially if this abode ens up sitting under the trees!!! Think about it.
from a mountain habitating Dutchmen in Canada who loves what you guys do!!! Keep on doing it, Happy Birthday Oliver.
Ha, I was literally moments away from setting wooden trusses onto my container when I got the notification for this video.
Big changes after watching this. Thanks guys!
In the future... pt your weilder on a pallet, lift it with the skidsteer on to roof of conex or to the side. Save your back as you only have one back
Simple. You could of just used angle iron to weld brackets down to hold your wooden trusees, save on Wright and overkill. Thus eliminating the drill holes. But, it's a learning process.😊
If you up a dryer sheet under your hat the gnats WILL NOT bother you anymore. It works my Dad, brother and husband use it.😊
Riley....You really amaze me with all the different ideas etc you come up with....Happy 1st Birthday Oliver....Thats a very nice thought ..making a tiny house for your mum...Stay safe and god bless you all
🎉🎂🥳 HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLIVER!!! 🥳🎂🎉
Has it been a year already?!
As usual y’all created another great video!
Work smarter, you have a Skidsteer with a bucket, put said welder in bucket and lift LOL
You need to weld mounting plates to the container to bolt wood to. There are calculations you need to make for expansion when doing that however. 👽🗿👽🗿👽
The porch abutting out from the side - seems like all support against weight is coming from the cantilever beams at the bottom, which is relying on your welds. Seems like added brace each end would make less stress on the cantilever welds.
Next time you're building on a container with wood, instead of bolting through the container, weld brackets on the container and put your bolts through the bracket. You can also make a captive bolt or captive nut if you don't want to fiddle around on the back side. At any rate, I love the build. Thanks for posting this!
Army truck and trailer where is trailer ? Very nice make house for your mom and get her out the shop. I hope to see the floor plans also water and drains, you toll us for power is it going summer House? Cooling and heat I also thing the excavator can pick it up
Finally the first to post and say Happy Spring, what a great time for a new project Love you guys
Thanks Andrew!
What a lovely idea. I thought maybe a 'platform' on the skidsteer would be better for you than working off a ladder? 🤔 Gorgeous blue skies! Great job guys! 👌
investing in a plasma torch would save you a lot of time cutting that metal tubing just like your plasma table does cutting out small parts.
Solve your issue for building with wood by welding brackets to the container like you used for your pole barn then paint the wood and brackets the same color to blend them together. Use mortise and tenon joinery with glue with the wood, which would be strong enough for snow load.
I really liked this! The pace was great, the collaboration was on point, and I’m glad Riley is unscathed. I can tell it’s going to look great!
for your future steel to lumber transitions. steel angle iron (clips) say, 6" long 2X2 angle, one side welded to your steel portion, holes in the other flange side, and lag into lumber through those holes.
Like the video on making place for your Mother for your mother in law .
23:40. I welded side rails / saddles to hold the steel prior to cutting. And at the fender, I made a small metal table to hold the saw. The table stays forever on the trailer. The trailer becomes the workbench where you stand on the ground beside the trailer and do all of the cutting. Of course, the saw doesn’t stay on the trailer when you go to town to get steel. On the passenger side of the trailer, I also made saddles to hold 10’ and 8’ sections of the pipe / conduit if I am going somewhere with a partially constructed structure on the trailer deck.
Really enjoy you antics. I built a large shed for a mate using scrap beams from a demo building. I lived 30 miles from his place. Used 2 forty footers. I built the canopy at my place. The roof overflow the containers and so was 43' x 46' wide with a 30" open span between boxes and he used as his workshop. I welded an 8" long piece of with three 5/8" tapped holes in each in 8 places. I used my mig on a platform I used on my front end loader. The blocks were welded to the corner section of the container, ends about a foot in from.each end. That was the extent of welding to containers. Built it like this so it could be unbolted and moved/sold once his massive building is completed. My point is use your machinery to help you. A platform on skid steer to work from will keep you safe. It's easy to make stuff on ground under cover and then erect like a Meccano set. Especially with your drawing ability.
Ooow love a little bit when I’m doing a project. A little reminder. Fantastic job guys and great to see your all😎
Riley, you can cut all of your miters for the framing cut with the bandsaw. Since you have it all drawn out, just cut all the lines, one by one. 4 cuts and done,
Just a little welding tip,, always bevel your welding point surfaces before welding, makes for better pentation and stronger welds. Great channel guys I 've been a fan for a long while now.
Love it! Back to building stuff!
weld inter container door and frame out a house door

So cool, nice for your Mom
Very cool design Riley. Courtney, Your mom is going to be surprised. Can't wait to see the new truck video.
Thanks for the video guys!
Great Project Looking forward to this one for sure. Thanks to you all for this.
Love the new projects always fun to tune in. keep gettin after it
I love the durability (and cool) factor of the steel construction and I totally understand the aversion to putting holes in the container, but why not just weld some plates/brackets to the container and then frame out of wood using the welded brackets as the anchor points? Wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds?
Either way, this build is going to be SWEET! Looking forward to lots of off-grid, tiny home building content!
That is fantastic Courtney. I know you’re Mom will really enjoy that little house To have a place of her own Will give her a piece of mind and not feel she is intruding..
Okay... this is going to be fun to watch. I get that you want this fully self-contained and portable... so the first thing you do is turn it into an over-sized load. I'm looking forward to just how self contained... it's own water tank and sewer system? or another combusting toilet thing? You guys think up and do the coolest stuff. Thanks for sharing this project with us.
Hello Sweet Family!! I'm So Excited for your Mom!! You Guys are Amazing!! 😊❤️💐
OMG I cant believe Oliver is one already that has gone so quickly, sounds like you had a wonderful time. I did guess the tiny home was going to be for your Mom Courtney, I did think she was coming to stay lol I think that is a wonderful idea and she is going to be really touched. You two work so well together x
Nice work you all ! Mom's will be thrilled
What a joy to watch! Great project and great job on the design and execution!
Looking forward to next week's video. It's amazing how you both work so well together.
I have a friend I've picked up on for welding as while I did it with a tombstone 40 some years ago in high school shop class, I only used it on quarter inch steel and never changed the settings. Never had to so naturally I never took note. Now I have the toys and time. Between he and yourself I might learn something here. Too many people here introduced me to the fact you have a skid loader and a talented operator for it. I get it. If I can lift something myself and save some time and gas well then what the heck! But now you have the force multiplier effect when two people don't make you go twice as fast but almost 3X faster. Easy sub dude! I like what you did today .😁👍
