Here is a video of another Container Window home talking about why not to use the utility window for their container house (which seem to be what you used when I saw the video) ruclips.net/video/ZTan669DxHU/видео.html I put the 500sec mark so it start where they talk about it.
It is important to foam insulate the internal walls and be sure there are no cavities between steel and insulation, otherwise you will get condensation.
^ should add its adhesive spray foam, it’s the most efficient insulation for containers and doesn’t leave voids where moist air can condense against cold steel
Riley, I think you should add larger wheels to your welder along with a handle that makes it easier to control and move long distances. The project looks great - just like always! I'll be excited to see finished product and its new location.😊
Love the design and doing it the right way. Beveling steel before welding, paint prep all makes it done right. Excellent job. Hope the Cortney's back is better. Great to have family help.
What a great family, Oliver is so precious, and his mother is the best! family members are forever!!hope you are feeling better Courtney!! Moms so Happy with that new mini house.ryan rocks the roost!later kids Love the skinners family members
Now we have to build a giant window frame that holds two windows and the door... And the ROOF, load bearing points are vital. And as you yourself showed in the previous video, even heavy steel bends under load.
You kids bring a whole new meaning to "making the sparks fly". Loving this project. One note: be very careful where you locate "Mom's Cabin". Too far away from your house and, one big snowfall, she has to wait for you guys to move the snow so she can get out. Also, try to give her a flat surface to walk to your home. One good freeze and Mom could be sliding down the driveway like a bobsled driver--without the sled.
good job guys, i have painted dozens of gallons of urbane bronze inside my customers houses, and i never thought that could be what color your buildings are, ive never done it outdoors, it looks more olive outdoors. also, if you have any issues with that dtm enamel, i feel you! i have brushed, rolled, and sprayed that stuff, it never lays out nice!
It’s one thing to have the right tools. It’s another thing to know how to use them. You guys DEFINITELY know how to use them 👍. Absolutely FANTASTIC !! I love these videos.
I just wanted to comment FINALLY and tell you guys that you are sooo f***ing cool!!! You're both so talented and I love that you're sharing all your adventures in building your homestead with us! Been following for about two years now and I'm so inspired by you two, hoping to buy some land someday and get into similar projects ❤️
Looks good. Yes Riley I do want to see you bend some tubing. I enjoy watching (and learning) you and your family build lots of things. Hello from Michigan.
So much work done by the three of you. It is looking fantastic! I have not done a lot of painting but enough to know it's a lot of work and hard on your back and arms. Courtney you are a gluten for punishment. Hope you get some quiet rest soon. Your Oliver is such a handsome boy and love his smile. Your mom's smile says , thank you so much! See you later.
@@wallykramer7566 Because I wasn't born yesterday. Construction, painting, welding, fabricating, moving equipment and materials, etc. is hard work. These people never get dirty. They don't sweat. Every clipped scene of them doing anything is about 10 seconds. Come on man, use your brain.
Nice work Riley Good thing you are lucky to have Courtney smooth up and beautify the final product. Really coming along nicely. Can't wait to see the finished product.
LUCKY MOM. Wow the container looks so good painted , Riley and Courtney you 2 are so talented on how you come up with ideas on making things. have you seen the pistol grip for rattle cans ? It makes it so much easier to paint with. It was great to have your brother there to help. Cant wait to see the next stage of the build.
It would've been interesting to use the cutout as the awning, and put it AND the porch on hinges so it could fold up and be actually portable, and also fold up for security if you want to leave it somewhere unattended.
As a fellow back issue sufferer I hope you get better quickly!!! My two boys hate when my back is out because it limits soo much. My wife was watching with me and was like "Damn, she is like you put her back out while coughing." The strangest things bring it on.
Awesome installed every episode! Riley, you might want to look into a big wheel cutting bottle stand and lose the took box- the Miller looks like a reasonably portable machine.
Add a set of air quick disconnect fittings to your shielding gas line. Then you can leave the talks in the shop. Yes, you have to drag the hose around with the extension cord but thats better then the tank(s). Works great out of the back of the truck as well.
Great plan, get mum out of the house and in the woods! It's a great build. You guys make awesome videos. When using your caulk gun, push into joint, don't pull. Try it, works a dream!
Next time you change your welding wire, with wire cutters clip the end so it’s smooth and will retract easily through the mig whip liner/tip then just release the spool drive and roll it right back on to the wire spool (by hand) be sure to keep ahold of the wire as it is coming out or else it will make a mess of your wire spool no more wast or mess definitely easy with the 10 or 11 lbs spool 👍 Nice job love your Chanel Cool project you’re working on Cheers😊
I believe the word "amazing" has been used in most of the comments so far, but it is truly AMAZING what you have accomplished on the container conversion project thus far. Keep up the great work.
Caulk back for perfect caulk lines - painters tape on either side keeping consistent distance apart, caulk, run your finger down the caulk line, remove both sides of the tape…perfect and as consistent as your tape lines
:) Enjoyable build, much sympathy to the Mrs, back injuries are painful as. WELL since you asked about thoughts on tarps: While "tarps" are versatile tools, across the many makes they are far from created equals. Poly Tarps (like this one) are made of a plastic infilled plastic weave, their weakest point are their grommets (I've had poly tarps rip them right out of the bag first tie down, or if overcome by wind, they tear and that tear can either have the eyelet tear out or a major rip across the tarp can happen). Failing that failure, the dual plastic presents two types of strength, and they can become internally abraded and tear away from each other over time. This is seen as the tarp develops initially micro holes that grow in size over time (and out comes the Duct Tape Solutions). If you luck out, and your tarp is solid enough to not lose grommets, be stable in wind enough to not get internal failures, the third destructive force is the SUN as tarps generally are not UV resistive or better, and they gain sun damage that leads to rotting of the plastics. A tarp is a good tool, but as all tools, you need to know their general limits, and the specific limits of the tarp you bought. I have had poly tarps rip apart out of the bag, tarps that rotted to something that had less structure than TP in one summer, to tarps that after a year just needed the old duct tap treatments.
Hats off to you both. This is really interesting build, the parallelisms are unreal, instead of wood it’s steel / metal. Your skills in this area are unreal. Well done you two.
You guys need some driving boards or Vehicle mats (I don't know what you called them in the US) to protect the ground, allow Riley to move his equipment around and allow heavy vehicles to gain access...
As I watched Riley putting full welds on the first joint. Ne Ne my friend. ALWAYS tac all the joints. Then go back and finish weld. Well that has been the rule of thumb with all the shops I work with. And those corner jigs??? Awesomesauce!!!! Caffeinator out.
I thought that was funny, he talked about tacking the window frame into the container but didn’t do it for building the frame. Tacking frame construction probably would have stopped it from going out of square. But hey, they’re hobbyists DIY everything, not full time, they get a bunch of slack for occasional oopses.
For anybody watching... you cannot paint vinyl windows a darker color. It will cause them to heat up and warp in hot weather with sun on them. The darker colors from the factory are formulated different and won't warp or twist. They may be far enough north to get lucky and of course you can always paint a lighter color. This applies to vinyl siding and trim as well.

Yes! That spray foam is an excellent sealant.
Facts!
InSoFast is a great looking container specific insulation. They also make a great exterior insulation for a conventional home build.
Your mother is going to love her tiny house. 😊
Riley is such a MASTER FABRICATOR !! AMAZING !!
I really enjoy watching you make things, but I really enjoy seeing the love that you two have for each other
CONGRATS on THE MILLER SPONSORSHIP.
BIG DEAL.
Paint prep is key to a good finished product! It's also 60 % of the whole job. Fun project! 😊
What an awesome way to honor your Mom! Great job you guys!!
Riley, you need to build a large wheeled cart for your welder to ride on when outside for easier rolling.
And to attach a new snow plow to! Winter weld plow 5000!
I thought that would have an excellent time for the skid steer
Just put some off-road tires on the cart
Best Mother’s Day gift ever for grandma 🌸💜💐
We never see Oliver fuss. They are so blessed to have such an amiable baby.
just because they don't film/show it, does not mean it never happens. I've never seen them take a p00p too, but i bet it will happen

Maybe a simple robotic drive with those larger wheels?
Larger pneumatic wheels and a tow bar for the quad, etc.

I, for one, appreciate the PPE you guys use. Great example for us all !
I do too but I wish they would use quality knee pads as they will probably feel it later on in life. They have come a very long way

Riley I adore your work. For me welding is such a beasty complicated thing because of bending and forming on the heat. You really get it all the time.

Yes to the tubing bender!! You should make a steel tube rocking chair for Grandma's porch!!!
This would have been a great time to have the rough terrain welding cart. I look forward to that build

Gluten? You must mean _glutton_ . Maybe you have gluten-free (as in a diet) on the mind?
I've got news for you, the three of them are barely doing any of the work. The vast majority of the work is being done by others off camera.

That's why you spot weld everything first, then check measurements again, the run the bead.
Hope you feel better real soon Courtney!!!!!!!
Is flashing on top of the windows necessary to prevent rain from seeping inside?🤔🤔
Its looking Great ! FYI, the window flange goes on the outside in order to keep out water.😢
You Two are pretty amazing! I commend you on both your creative projects but also how well you do them... Keep up the good work. Enjoy Ken
