When vac'ing drywall dust i highly recommend putting a bag in the shop vac. I started doing this and it dramatically reduces filter clogging meaning the vac maintains suction for much long. I also feel like it does a better job keeping dust inside rather than possibly blowing some back out.
We can't wait for the Collab video to come out! It was so much fun working with y'all:) Everyone prepare for a good time because it was a goofy week full of laughter!
I love the fact that you put all of this in one video. I've seen other RUclipsrs stretch this sort of thing out over several weeks so it is appreciated. 😀
If I haven't said it before I want to say it now, Courtney is the best taper and painter I have seen on any RUclips video. And I have watched a lot of them. I have done a fair amount of taping and have commented on many videos to try to provide helpful hints at how to do it better. However I do not see anything Courtney could do to improve her job as she is spot on with every step of the process. She could be the gold standard in how to do drywall finishing.
I liked the wood trim the first way. It gave the ceiling a little depth. I might do that same ceiling when I finish my garage close-in after seeing this.
I never sand after patching the screws and joint. I take a roller and spread thin layer everywhere and then smooth it with 60cm trowel. Much less work and better result and donn’t need sprayer. Seam between paper and spackel can never be good. Best way to see is it to use sharp point light like led flashlight right next to the wall. It’s brutal compared to soft light but prevents disappoinment when sun is shining from right direction.
Your baby is sooooo adorable guys...! Oliver is one lucky guy...!!! Love him...!!! Awesome job guys, you all make me laugh too... Nice that you did the sanding part for Cortney Riley...! The northern light were cool... You both work so well together...! Beautiful job with the flooring too...!!!
I always transfer paint (if I intend to store it long term) in 1 gallon milk jugs AND I store the jug upside down so the solvent can not evaporate very well (if at all) Same goes for paint cans. If the seal between lid and can is good store the can upside down...
A couple of quick tricks from a 18 year General Contractor; use your hand saw for long cuts like that, that you used your plunge cut multitool for. Less noise and is faster. Two, on that long 5" strip you could have not cut off the 1/2" edge and cut a 4 1/2 piece and put it above the other piece as it was going to get corner treatment anyway so it didn't matter which piece overlapped which.
Someone else may have already made this comment, but since I haven't read through any of the previous 384 comments, here goes. A trick to filling screw holes easier, faster, & with much less sanding is to put a dab of mud on a corner of a 6" trowel & swiping across 4' sections of screws @ one time rather than filling each one separately. It takes about 1/4 the time & you don't have a splotch of mud around each screw dimple to sand off. Simply swipe down the middle of a row of screws, then swipe any extra mud from both edges. I can normally get the 3-4 layers of mud it takes to completely fill the screw dimples without ever having to sand between layers. Oh, one more thing. ALWAYS use vacuum bags in your shop vacs, whether it's in your drywall sanding vac or your standard shop vac. As long as you're using them on dry products, you'll never have to replace a filter again or need to clean out the tub & you'll have very little dust while using it or when dumping the vac into the trash.
You guys are doing an awesome job as a matter fact everything you work on turns out awesome I am so amazed with you guys as ability to build things and make things work plus, Oliver is super Duper Duper cute sending you guys love. I can’t wait for the next episode.
Great job guys!!!! Perhaps on your next project you might incorporate a reveal on your drywall edges. They look incredible awesome especially on the ceiling.
As another person who tore a mountain apart to build my place in 1997. !! I I hauled 100,000 cu yds if material!! And built 3 rock walls 250’ x30. ‘ high. Out of 12’-4’ rocks !! My driveway took 3 weeks itself. Plus rocking the bank later. Built my new house too!! Septic, sewer /water also. I did roofing, drywall
Thanks for the Northern Lights, here in Cape Town, South Africa we had the Southern lights at the same time. Great fan of your work having built 3 houses
I am impressed that the floor has stayed together, considering that it was completely improperly put together. Pounding together the latches only breaks the latch and does not allow proper floating. Unless that was the goal.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Very interesting and entertaining build. Waiting to see if you use curtains on the windows or splurge and get LCD switchable film for the windows. Wishing you and your family the best. If your doing much drywall sanding you may also consider buy a water filled dust trap for your vacuum line. They sell kits but you could easily put one together with a few scraps you come across. It’s basically a bucket with a matching lid and a section on hose and fittings that allow you to put it in between the vacuum and the hose. The inlet fitting accepts the vacuum line on the outside and extends down into the bucket below about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way into the bucket. A good option would be a extension hose cut in half and glued into two holes in the lid. Filling the bucket with water above the extension into the bucket causes the air to be bubbled thru the water collecting all the drywall dust. The only think that ends up in the shop vacuum is at most a few drops of water. The mud in the collection bucket is very much like the stuff before you put it on the wall. Pondered trying to reuse it but since I had plenty of mud I didn’t risk it. 😂
Just a little tip for the next time you go out to view the northern lights or a meteor shower. You need to find your viewing spot about a half hour before you want to view and just sit in the darkness without any artificial lights or screens. This will allow your eyes to dark adapt.
Pro tip for taping especially for corners, rip the tape to length then place the tape in a bucket of water before applying, it is much easier to work with and applies without bubbling
I really enjoy watching you two work as I've done most of the things you do. Today and in past taping jobs I've waited for someone to suggest a corner knife for taping inside corners. It will help greatly.
Highly recommend a Pica pencil for all your cool tool belt needs! The sheath has a built in sharpener and it makes a great fidget toy when doing the obligatory standing in one place wondering what the next step of the plan is
Gentle folks, I ❤ to see Oliver smiling, that little boy is a very happy kid, Riley's genes, Courtney you won't have a sad moment with your two men ❤ you both 🇯🇲💯
Very much appreciated _Swirly_ _Bird_ in the music! It was very subtle, but enough to trigger big smiles in me! Now I need to go listen to the whole thing!
Wow!! What an outstanding job to both of you!! The amazing part is that your enjoyment, during the process, was evident!! No pressure but I look forward to each vid to see your creative solutions to problems and how you have a smile on your face at the end of the day!! Some people call it acting and there may be some of that but for you two, it’s the wonderful temperament you exude!! All and all, your vids make me happy!! Thank you so much!!
You guys gave the best channel ! Now rebuild that old D8. ! It made your channel! Many of us love old cats. Give-bit life. Shop for low hr Parts !! Keep hyd system clean. And flush everything!! You should be able to find top condition parts
You need to leave a 5mm (minimum) gap at the edges of the floor boards or they'll buckle when the humidity/temperature changes throughout the year. Also recommend putting a cloth down before hammering to avoid accidentally marking them. Looks awesome though!
Courtney, try this next time caulking: use a small tin of soapy water on your' finger to smooth caulking , smoother finish and no caulk sticking on your' fingers. I am a painter for forty + yrs. Gary
Oliver is great!! So nice to see him included in your projects. Enjoyed watching the three of you working together on this project for grandma, I'm sure she will appreciate it so much more being able to watch it being completed.😀🙃
It’s looks beautiful. Just a humble suggestion: next time use L shape plastic trim on drywall to get it mud and square corners it will be easier then applying molding. Even around the T&G ceiling. You can also use trufig outlets, mud in lights , linear diffusers and a Shadow mold trim at ceilings, doors , windows and base 😅. Count me in!!! I’m a new subscriber 🎉
Next time, if there is one... and you need to go to town to get trim, either buy a board that you'll need in the future, or, take a piece of pipe, or a board of course, and tape the trim to the board or pipe, to keep it rigid enough to not break. Or, Riley in all your skills at fabricating, build you an adjustable "T" mount that will slide into the receiver hitch, that will adjust up and down, and away from the truck, to haul such items. I have not seen one that would do all this, but have seen a variety of them. Also, something I really liked, it a guy built one and mounted a st of LED brake.tail lights on it, below(so as to not get in the way of what you are carrying, so it worked not only in place of a red flag thing, but also worked REALLY well at night. Trim, add wood(or what you are using), till it looks good! Said an old carpenter friend of mine!
The trick to doing drywall corners is to put plenty if compound in the corners to set the folded paper tape in, remove all excess. Second, and subsequent coats only apply only one side of the corner at a time, let it dry before doing the other side of the corner. This applies to both horizontal, and vertical. Courtney, you do a very good job at taping. After taping for over 40 years I only sand twice. I apply three level coats, then sand all. Prime the walls, touch up compound holidays then sand the entire wall to prime again.
I liked seeing your new monster truck driving down the road pulling those blocks. I had to wave like a maniac. Oliver now has SuperSize building blocks to play with. He's getting so big, so fast.
To accommodate hand rails you may need in the future you might consider one of 2 options 1. replace the 2x4 stud wall in the bathroom with 4x4s or cover the walls in 1in plywood. So just a black garbage bag lining the inside of the shop vac?
That sounds like a good idea 💡

I really liked this longer episode and all the fun little moments.
Love the long episode. I have also really enjoyed this build. Thanks for the ride.
Love your channel and seeing everything that you accomplish. House looks fantastic!

Your little helper is a definite plus. Need to rig up an Oliver Cam. Mom’s Mansion looks great.
seeing the Northern Lights is on my bucket lights and now that I am retired I might get this done. Heading to Iceland in the near future

That tiny house is looking great, I wouldn’t mind having one like that
Put a piece of cardstock under the trim when sawing to give a tiny bevel. Makes joints look tighter.

Murfey bed transformation. I want one.

I believe Trent uses a proper drywall gun that dimples the screws (Trent and Allie channel) 😊
@@valarya oh no, I’ve even offered to send him one then he went out and bought the proper drywall gun! Trent and Aliy learn drywall the hard way

Look for kitchen blenders at yard sale, for reblending paint that has glumpled. Yes do a test to see how and if it will dry.
