@@macclark4112 I would always go for no additional roof penetration, even if it just is to future proof more panels, or different dimension panels etc.
Seen way too many leak failures in roofs. Dissimilar materials in direct sunlight expand and contract at different rates. Maybe not this year or next but it will happen at the roof opening. Can't tell from the video but the hose protection slit should have been at the lowest point. Should have been under the roof cap. At the very least as high on the roof as possible. Ladder supports should have been on a vertical surface not horizontal as well. Works for now.

We have been using the Behr Deck Stain on our deck. It been through 34 Buffalo winters and holding up just fine (plenty of rain, snow and other weather). I touch up the stain every 5 years or so, but it's quick and easy work. The stain should make your deck last a very long time, especially compared to bare wood. The view from your deck looks amazing.
In my opinion I think you should maybe have one of those wire style railings around your Storage trailer deck . If somebody falls off of there , I think broken bones will be a bad thing . Happy Trails from 🇨🇦 to the 🇺🇸 . ✌out
If you are going to be running wire a lot from multiple spools, consider building a small rack/cart to hold the spools while you pull from them. I used a broom stick across a box made from a couple of 2x4 cutoffs. I've also used a piece of scrap rebar held to a hand cart with bailing wire. But anything to hold all the spools and let you cleanly draw the wire from them will help a lot.
Attention, everyone. Tim from Canada.. if you were painting or staining, and you were using some sort of a tray.. if you put cellophane or plastic wrap inside your. The next time you are painting or staining in the cleanup, you will see will be a lot easier for you.
I used to do that. I stopped because I wasn't getting as good of results as using just the paint tray. Those cleats inside the tray it turns out are useful. For the jobs that I use a roller on. I have to clean up. Not a big deal. Besides, you really shouldn't be throwing wet paint away in the trash, which a lot of people that use plastic do. Most jobs I use an airless sprayer. There is a bit more prep work until you get the right tools for that. Spraying is very fast. I'm way faster than with a 9 or 18" roller.
Riley, you can't run the grounding electrode conductor to the ground rod in metal conduit without bonding both ends of the wire to each end of the conduit. Not bonding the wire causes magnetic choking effect limiting current flow to ground. Pull the #6 wire out of the conduit and run it on the surface of the container. Oliver will appreciate it.

Just being honest because I do love watching your channel a ton, I would prefer you just make a 2 minute commercial and put it in the video instead of just making a 22 minute commercial. It’s just my opinion. I’m not going to stop watching or anything like that, that’s just silly. I love watching your videos. This video is doing work for the sake of showing off the product. Work you most likely wouldn’t have done otherwise. Obviously you’ll be installing some stairs to your deck in the future so the ladder was just a stop gap. Believe me, I get it. Sponsors pay for living and providing content. They don’t have to be the focus. I would challenge to say that the less obvious the product usage is, the more interest in the product there would be. “How are they doing that?” “How did they get power there?” And then a 2 minute commercial would be a great question/answer. Again, I love you guys, your energy, all of it. Just my opinion.

Love the amount of solar you have going on. Did you ever think about hooking the container shop's electrical up to the OG solar array and battery bank?
I was expecting this eventually, only makes sense to put that roof area to work for you. In fact, covering that roof with PV panels and adding a large capacity DIY battery system based upon LiFePo4 cells would be a fantastic project for the channel.
HI, 3 suggestions I would like to make: 1. Put in a power cable between your main batteries and your workshop containers as a backup so if you need a lot of power or you have had a bad snow storm you can charge both sets of batteries off your propane generator and your containers don't land up sitting in the dark. 2. Build a proper platform for your skid steer so you are safe when ever you use it to work at heights. 3. Build a concrete pad outside the container on the Right so it is solid where you are getting in and out of the container and also you know that there is a solid base for the ladder to stand on.
Yes! I love that set up. My son and daughter-in-law are using one container as a shop. They have another one at another spot on the farm. I will send him this video. That roof setup is great! Thanks for posting. 💯❤ Take care, Crusty Kirk
Thank you two for the great video's and sharing your experiences and educating the rest of us. A method to consider for installing a ground rod. Water in hole method; push rod in and out of hole adding water after you pull rod back out. Another method is using a hammer drill adapter to drive the rod in full depth. Don't want anyone of you to become the ground to earth and short out a long life of these fun videos. Sounds like the little fella is approaching his first words.
How about a bracket attached to the deck next to the ladder, and from it, hang a pulley. That way, tools, lunch, or whatever needs to go up can safely do so without having to climb it with one hand!
Yikes. Couldn’t route them through the ridge cap? Man I hate drilling holes in a new roof. Nice power system for sure you two! Thanks for the video! Cheers,Mike.
Great work as usual. Looking at the massive amount of roof space you’ve got, you could collect thousands of gallons of rain water off them. With your filtration systems and your roofs and some added water storage, your water issues could be sorted.
Yah was thinking same, perfect roof for collecting water from, especially on the deck side i would put gutters to keep additional water of the deck. But if you can combine it all with a filtration system, which feeds it into a collector or some sorts, you could put that roof to work 😅
It was simply possible to put wires from the solar panels under the skating element on the roof, there is already a finished hole, and not make additional holes on the roof ... And yes, the tree before painting should still be primed, and it would be nice to soak with an antiseptic ...
Lights are awesome, that is the first thing I did when we built our shop, three banks of Lights even before we poured the floor, which was nice when we did pour the floor.
Anker has made a very nice system. BTW Reilly, your description of load shifting switched "on-peak" and "off-peak". You charge off-peak (rate/demand) and discharge on-peak.
Love it we are doing the same right now. We have an old goal zero yeti portable system for moving around the farm. It’s the most useful tool we have. Keep up the good work
Not a electrician but did spend a grand on a electrical course and pretty sure grounding is for getting rid of high voltage events. Like when lighting strikes nearby a voltage is induced in all metal parts and the grounding rod gives you a clear path to ground. Bonding is used to bond all metal components together that gives you a path to the ground and decreases the chance the high voltage event jumps through insulation in motors or other sensitive electronics. Also bonding all metal part to neutral would cause the breaker to trip if there was a short.
Riley look for Duct Seal in the electrical area of hardware store. Its like puddy for sealing holes, pipes ect. Nice thing is you can easly remove it to repair stuff.
I do a lot of commercial electrical work and love bending conduit. So it pains me to not be there helping out. Amazing work on the off grid paradise you two are building.

test ground rod 120 volt 5 amp fuse one end to ground rod and one end to hit side if blow fuse you have good ground rod If not blow need add another rod
Neat trick, hadn’t heard of this one before, alternatively you could use a 500W incandescent light for this test, if it runs bright you are good to go, if it is dimmed at all put in another rod.
Need to close in the knee wall to keep the weather out. Id suggest using windows or glass in every other opening to get light under the shed. Permanent stairs up to the deck at the middle part that sticks out would be a good way to keep them out of the way. They'd be on the side of the container instead of infront like the ladder is. Good video. 👍
The pallet platform for the skid steer is a great idea. Maybe a 2x4 rail would act as a hand hold and tool rest if you attach trays and drill holes to hold screw drivers and drill out different tools. Easy and useful work surface.
FYI...You should make a safety bucket for the skid steer for a future project. Its alot safer than using a palet as a platform. We use them on our fork lifts at work. Just a thought.
ground rod tip - use a heavy duty corded hammer drill. slide the rod into the drill, and hammer away. it'll make life so much easier. Also, your ground should be protected in armor from the conduit to the the rod. also, make sure ground and neutral are bonded at the panel.
21:40 haha, you still got the train! That made me happy 🥰 no wonder you needed more space! 😁 Great job as always, even though I found the ladder as a temporary solution, hopefully we get to see stairs & railings build for the deck one day
Things are lighting up at the ole homestead... Nice work on the deck, solar panels and electronics throughout the shop area. I hope that you used some sealant or gaskets underneath the solar panel stand-off brackets. Even if you used screws with rubber washers the water can still get into the holes under the brackets. Many installers use something underneath the brackets to seal off that gap. RV's use a self-leveling lap sealant, which might work if you could get some in brown to match the roof panel colors.
You should have mounted down at the eve. Where you could build a frame to mount the panels and make them adjustable like the main panel frame. Just make folding legs that fold up in the winter. Max out put.
nice job on the containers a idea so no holes in the containers I saw were the use 2x4 on the walls and wedge the against the floor and roof and the board on the ceiling can be held up with boards wedged on the wall cut to hold the ceiling board and make shelfs the same way
The set up you just did is awesome. But I didn't expect a ladder for steps.I think I would of found something alot safer than that.Another great video & keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing.
To drive a ground rod after the rocks have cleared use water in the hole and a up and down motion by hand will usually sink the rod no problem, you may have to pull the rod out to add more water, new drilling rigs use this basic technology
Genius! First Americans to u tube it! Amazing! U will not regret the free energy. Do u sell surplus to your power grid like they do in Europe? Either way great
21:50 switch the two contacts such that the 'outside' switch toggles the outside light, and the 'inside' switch toggles the inside light. Right now it is the opposite and I think it would be more intuitive switched. Otherwise incredible work as always!
You might want to consider installing a wall plug on the deck so that you don't need to always run a cable if you need to use any appliances on the deck. makes it look much neater
You should have added a small junction box and sealed it on the roof. Then, if you decide to add additional solar panels in the future, you're already set up to rout the wiring.
You do have grid via portable generator. If so inclined, that way you can keep the battey topped off for winter usage when you have no sun or panels are buried in snow.
What a brilliant idea! Incorporating solar power into your off-grid container shop not only promotes sustainability but also provides reliable and renewable energy for your business. It's inspiring to see your commitment to environmental responsibility while enhancing your shop's efficiency

personally would have put couple layers of ice shield rubber underneath the solar panel anchor brackets to head off any leaks from screws potential to follow threads and drip inside
I think building a wrap-around staircase to the roof deck on the back of the container and then some simple railings. So be a video you guys do soon. The latter is fine until you want to grill out their and relax.
Hi! I think you have to take a cable from your first shipping container to put like line to span panel. And I think it will be really good if you will put solar panels on that roof as much as you can and take power from them to your first shipping container with solar staff, and add them to the system, and also it looks like you have to put some batterys more for your system 60 kwts it's not enough for living off grid like you live. Good luck to you guys from Russian guy from Podgorica Montenegro. If you will visit EU and our country(Montenegro) I will glad to help you.

Build a tube steel basket to put on the forks on the skid steer so you don't have to worry about falling off
FYI...You should make a safety bucket for the skid steer for a future project. Its alot safer than using a palet as a platform. We use them on our fork lifts at work. Just a thought.
mad skillz demonstrated by these two.
Great video guys @Riley you are an outstanding father, don't ever stop 👍.
Have you looked into Vertical solar arrays that are 2 sided arrays, they boost morning and evening input and shed snow really well too.
ground rod tip - use a heavy duty corded hammer drill. slide the rod into the drill, and hammer away. it'll make life so much easier. Also, your ground should be protected in armor from the conduit to the the rod. also, make sure ground and neutral are bonded at the panel.
21:40 haha, you still got the train! That made me happy 🥰 no wonder you needed more space! 😁
Great job as always, even though I found the ladder as a temporary solution, hopefully we get to see stairs & railings build for the deck one day
Things are lighting up at the ole homestead...
U should use underneath the roof top cap for getting the wires inside, that's how I did it to avoid penetrating the metal sheet.
Always look forward to your videos. The love between the two of you is palpable.
you can unscrew the MC40 connector, and pop back the pin, so you dont have to cut the ends of you want to go conduit ...
Genius! First Americans to u tube it! Amazing! U will not regret the free energy. Do u sell surplus to your power grid like they do in Europe? Either way great
Another good video, thanks for sharing. Oliver looks like he's having a good time too.
You should try to get the top platform from a Sizer lift (non operational) and make an adapter to fit your skid steer forks. Be safe.
If that were my place I'd be putting a heck of a lot more on that roof. Having extra generation is always a good thing.
Use vertical solar panels on your free sides of the containers, will give you easy power during winter without the need for snowshoveling.
Thanks for sharing. A Big Hi to Oliver, the growing little person. Ron PTL USA
With power at the shed it would super simple to build a water driven lift. Basically a big bottle jack to raise the lift car.
Love the shot of Oliver on your wallpaper!
Thank you for inspiration. I'm looking at some off grid properties in BC and going through some of the logistics of that, many of my questions get answered each week with your videos.
Glad to see you got Oliver involved in the project.
Now you can store your snow removal equip under cover with BLOCK heaters connected to what you make best
Stink bugs are the worst man... I find them everywhere at my place in N. ID. Your shop looks good.
Unlike some, I don’t view this video as commercialized. Difference being, they were adding to the facilities in a way that will be useful for a long time to come. They are just selling something. Yes the vendor gave it to them. But it has meaning
I have several smaller Anker power station and battery banks. They are decent products and Anker has great CS.
You Guy's leave me in AWE! 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀 You hear all the critics against solar energy. And Riley ends that argument completely. That you to all! 🥰
Although he's a bit short (for now) you've got the best helper ever .
personally would have put couple layers of ice shield rubber underneath the solar panel anchor brackets to head off any leaks from screws potential to follow threads and drip inside
I think building a wrap-around staircase to the roof deck on the back of the container and then some simple railings. So be a video you guys do soon. The latter is fine until you want to grill out their and relax.
That phone background of Oliver is the best!! Love the intensity
Привет ребята!!! Вы восхитительны!!! И очень умны!!! Удачи Вам в дальнейшей работе!!!
Love your pint sized help. He has mom and dads good looks.❤❤
