It's unlikely this is on, but perhaps check it anyway. Pretty cool another owner walks up to offer help. Hope you took his number!

The Military convoy is always 45 MPH. Those big heavy haulers are not built for speed for the running gears.
This has a ctis system on it hopefully he has it set to empty but these still run really rough with those on this is a coil suspension with no cab bags or anything the only airbag is on the drivers seat
I bought 5 ton M813 6x6 and drove it 2380 miles home. These Military trucks are cool! Mine is a 1979 and has no computers on it at all and a very simple setup. I had first considered buying one of these 7 ton versions but they were $$$ pricey. My 5 ton has served me well. Best wishes and looking forward to your new toy get some use. Best wishes.

So the problems that happened on that trip are not too unusual. Riley will be busy for a while fixing/ replacing hoses, checking electrical connections, and various other things. Keep a good attitude about this new to you acquisition and it will serve you well. Best Regards Your Pal Al
They were getting to costly to maintain, that's why the Military sells them. The old 21/2 ton, some were well over 20 years old and still running, the M151 was another that ran forever. But the newer vehicles..well if they make it out of the motor pool its a red letter day
I agree! Drain all the fluids flush it and then replenish. All hoses and belts will probably require replacement. It will be a while however, if it's done right it will be reliable

The first thought I had with the built in diagnostic system was 1) Cool, that's a great idea; and 2) Wait, does it break down so often it NEEDS this available all the time?
The level of complexity that is being built into military vehicles these days is asinine. Why not stick with an all-mechanical system? Or are we really prioritizing "going green" over dependability in combat zones?
@@Edhooey Getting stuff built and presenting it to brass for promotions is all that matters, soldiers lives take a back seat just look up the story of the Bradly fighting machine.

I don't have experience repairing 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 particular piece of equipment, my work was rotary wing avionics maintenance, and having built in self-test self-diagnose is a time saver rather than having to pull a flight computer, tag, write up the bird, haul the computer into an office to test, then haul it back, install, test, then schedule a test flight.
Me and my wife just got back from Tennessee to Washington State in a M923A2 5-ton and it was a blast and adventure, had to replace a hub seal and air dryer and a tire all out in the middle of Montana but it was the coolest thing we did. I am a Marine vet so I was familiar with the truck. Glad more folks are getting these trucks.
Wow, that truck is overkill, but how fun. Courtney, your mom's surprised expression at the airport is a highlight. It must always be an adventure for her to see what project you guys are up to next, let alone your collection of vehicles.
Awsome purchase!! Maybe an abs problem. Transmission isn't "locking up" ( a clutch in the torque converter that locks the engine to the Transmission) torque converter makes a lot of heat when not locked up.
I read that the truck hasvon the go adjustable tyre pressure. One of the neat tricks is that it has a dashboard function based on the load being carried. So you could probably have got a slightly better ride on highway by telling it you were empty. Also it seems that the engine derates at low load, presumably saves a bit of fuel. Enjoy!
I used to drive the previous version in the USMC from 2004-2008. Those versions had air ride seats btw and were not fatiguing. AC was a serious problem in Iraq. That said, we loved them, especially when we need to adjust tire pressure in real time.
I was in the Corps before these trucks came out, I was driving the old Deuce and a half, no ac, hard metal seats with very thin padding, exhaust right outside the passenger door and manual shift. SEMPER FI! Love the channel!!
I drove the troop/cargo variant of these (MK23) towing howitzers in the USMC 2008-2012. From the factory all of our trucks were unarmored and had air ride driver seats. Once they got sent off for the armor package (which this truck had/has) the air ride seat went bye bye along with windows that opened...and I've never been in one that the "A/C" worked. The only airflow was hot air from the vents or outside air from the tiny firing ports in the windows...or take the turret cover off. Looks like those crappy soft doors are homemade.
I feel your joy and enthusiasm.........I drove Jeeps for nearly 40 years.........Turned in my Jeep and bought Red 6 speed Camaro just over a week ago. Not exactly the same but the thrill is there.

Without the service manuals you have the most complicated truck on earth that you will not be able to keep on the road. Get and store the manuals so that you can decode alerts and know what to fix these may not be available into the future. Great truck if you keep you can change the ring and pinion to make for more of a highway truck as you will not be fully loaded on unimproved roads where mil. vehicles must be able to operate and the higher final drive ratio will not be noticed other than making highway use more pleasant. Good Luck this truck is very cool! Ray

Man, you guys do a great job with your videos, even after you’ve had a child and have so much going on at home. Your videos are still really good. Thank you so much for all your hard work, with thoroughly look forward to Sunday mornings watching them.
I like those 7 ton trucks. We had the M923 series 5 tons when I was in the Marines. get the dash 10 manual and maybe the dash 20 for those really bad issues plus get on the web sights for owners with those 7 tons. I always wanted to get some old military rigs to make wild land fire trucks but never had the funds to do it. the trick for the fan is a good thing to know like on the Hummvee its the line that goes by the black computer box on the drivers side firewall. It does the same thing by turning on the clutch fan. Good video and keep em coming have a great week.
Progressively losing gears suggests transmission oil is overheating because either it's low or even leaking. Edit - You worked that out. The moment of realisation from your mum is golden.
Yes, they are most certainly kidney Busters. But, on the plus side, air ride seats bolt directly in. Now you're going to need another electric grease gun, on top of a case of oil and 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid on hand on your truck at all times. Oh and the big tube of gasket maker just in case. At this point you may as well buy yourself a hose swager too
Our company used to run Cat engines and they needed a lot of cooling. Keeping that engine fan on will definitely suck the horsepower out of it plus they're too noisy. We did switch to a less noisy fan with a fan clutch that kept the fan partially engaged which helped a lot
Gotta love those military trucks. Maintenance heave but will take a beating. Get those manuals and you'll have no problem figuring out how to keep her in good shape.

When you started talking transmission issues….. that gave me flash backs. I drove my Unimog home (just a leisure 4000 mile cross continent trip) and 300 miles before home the transmission died. The old Unimog’s have no transmission temp sensor/gauge either…..
All wheel stearing is sweet and very helpful! I'm thinking you're going to have to drain and flush the lines and then replenish with quality fluid according to manufacturer specifications
Wow when you go big. You go BiG!! You need to add side mirrors. Hope the transmission problem is an easy repair. Can’t wait to see what you are going to do to the truck
5 years as a heavy equipment operator in the Seabees 78-83 and ran most every truck we had including heavy hauling DM800 Macks. Took the duce and a halves out and ran them on the Amtrack course in Gulfport Mississippi. Good times. But we didn't have these cool newer vehicles. 😢
WOW. I never knew they were available with all wheel steer. I have an 05 Silverado with Quadrasteer and love how easy it is to maneuver in tight spaces.
I drove the cargo version (MK23) in the USMC 08-12. we did not have the rear steer. To my knowledge only the Tractor version (the one in the video) has the steering rear axle.
I can relate to your road trip. When I was stationed in Germany I drove a loaded deuce n half to another base and back with some of it on the autobahn. I had to pull over and drive up some ot the hills in the breakdown lane. Good memories. Lol
One of your tires is definetly out of round and or the hubs are not centered. Eli aka the MTVR channel has a good post about the hubs being centered. I also know a guy for really affordable new tires for it and your lmtv.
Courtney, your mother's expression was priceless... Riley, I gots to ask, what the heck are you going to use that beast for?? Logging. pulling boulders, what???
My goodness you guys pick on some biggies. Will be waiting with anticipation for next video on this beast of a truck I wish they were available in NewZealend I would get one!
This reminds me of the time in 2009 The Wife and I drove from SW-Missouri to North New Hampshire when I bought a 1982 Iveco Box truck that used to belong to the Bimota USA AMA Race Team. On a whim. I paid $500 for it. Had to work on the brake and clutch hydraulics before ever moving it, then halfway-across New York the lift-pump sprang a leak. In a Construction Zone. So the truck kept losing power and slowed down to 30mph with an enormous line of vehicles behind me (if you were in that line - I Apologize!) Jury-rigged a repair at the next rest stop, and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way back to Missouri… at 60mph (65 downhill with a Tailwind!) At least it had a Sleeper.
This is pretty much exactly what happens on these sort of missions - as long as you start expecting issues with a fully charged phone and plenty of card limit it’s always smooth sailing,
You literally had the same exact problem as Ethan at Grind Hard Plumbing driving his mil surplus hummer home to northern idaho. He disconnected the solenoid to the fan...
2005 we were picking up supplies in Kandahar base and we hit an IED on the way back. I was manning the Turret of the same truck. Needless to say I didn't get hurt. Those trucks are awesome. Welp we ended up blowing it up in place once it was all clear.
@@AmbitionStrikes it's true. I have a military SCANIA SBAT111with automatic gearbox from a city bus. 3 speeds and lockup clutch but with planetary torque divider, so engaging lockup raises speed about 30% -you can consider it as fourth gear. it has also very short gears. it is possible to reach about 90 km/h but wih engine revs hittinng 2300 rpm red zone. 60-65 km/h is a convenient speed, with fuel consumption and noise skyrocketing. when i bought it., i made it home about 800 km, had one issue with last gear disabled due to brake lights switch stuck. brake light went on, and as transmision control receives also that signal, it prevented from using last gear.
Cortney, I am concerned for you, the old saying "Boys and their toys" being 100% true with Ryley, what will happen once Oliver gets of age. Buckle down and wait for that to happen :) LOL
Courtney, one of these days you might hear a very loud explosion and run outside to find Reckless Riley with his hair burnt off laughing hysterically while Oliver is rolling on the ground also hysterically laughing saying that was so cool dad........ Then Riley says "you gotta see this "
I was an EO in the Navy Seabees when I was trained in A school we had just received the first batch of our MTVRs. I spent a lot of time driving these things way too fast through traffic haha
Riley, wander if there is a diff. lock out for highway driving. Turning all those gears at highway speed might be contributing to the trans. heating issue.
WOOHOO!!! Now that you have a fleet of construction equipment you can paint them to match your building, like a dark grey or something with new decals.

You guys are so fun, I always look forward to what you come up with!
You should be able to get the complete set of Tm's for this truck on CD/DVD'S
Now this is big toy for Riley. Anxious to see how he converts it😊
Glad you were able to get it home
Loved that you went to the airport in this! Your mom's reaction was great!
What an awesome video, really curious as to what’s going to happen with it in the future. Cortney what a trooper.
Now that is a great new toy for Riley, it would be great to have been along for the ride
Logging. pulling boulders, what???
haha, you're like a couple of big kids playing with big toys and I love it!!! :D
@9:21 Courtney was really enjoying the ride
I transport carpenter wood in the french Alps, small narrow villages. My flatbed truck (2019 Scania) has rear steer and it makes a HUGE difference!
So the truck kept losing power and slowed down to 30mph with an enormous line of vehicles behind me (if you were in that line - I Apologize!)
Jury-rigged a repair at the next rest stop, and it was smooth sailing the rest of the way back to Missouri… at 60mph (65 downhill with a Tailwind!)
At least it had a Sleeper.
Loved the expressions on your face Courtney, during Riley's explanation! Loved seeing Boone. Wonder what Mom thought of the truck 🙃😆
This is pretty much exactly what happens on these sort of missions - as long as you start expecting issues with a fully charged phone and plenty of card limit it’s always smooth sailing,
this is maybe your second biggest vehicle counting his dozer and yes it is massive and powerful it can handle any heavy equipment transport issue
Great video. Chasing problems is the norm with military vehicles. Have fun.
Upgrade number 1 is get new normal truck seats
I’d love to see a colab between you two and the outdoor boys
Hmm......
I think you may have inadvertently answered why military convoys never exceed 45mph
😂
Thats some truck youve bought there Riley...Big beast lol....Glad you got off the main road...Stay safe and catch up soon
Sounds like the truck needs a thorough inspection and tuneup. Guessing I know what a few of the upcoming videos will be :D
Yes! Paul didn't have a chance to drive it very often so I have a feeling there will be some "kinks" to work out.
I have see armored glass version of these and for some reason they look absolutely menacing!
Man, thank God you guys bumped into victor!
Cortney, I am concerned for you, the old saying "Boys and their toys" being 100% true with Ryley, what will happen once Oliver gets of age. Buckle down and wait for that to happen :) LOL
NEED TO BE MORE FRUGAL WITH THE FINANCES, MUCH MORE DIFFICULT ECONOMIC TIMES AHEAD! BEWARE 👀🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
What will happen......Flame throwers, explosions, missile launchers. Ya know all the Fun stuff guys like....
@@MacGyver2154 My vote is to leave that old cabin they were going to knock down for Oliver when he gets older, so he can blow it up. LOL
@@TheSouthernMale shhhhh, Courtney reads the comments 😉
Courtney, one of these days you might hear a very loud explosion and run outside to find Reckless Riley with his hair burnt off laughing hysterically while Oliver is rolling on the ground also hysterically laughing saying that was so cool dad........
Then Riley says "you gotta see this "
Love the way that no matter what, the world could be ending for goodness sake, this guy is ALWAYS smiling... ALWAYS...
Ooh this is going to be good. Insanely overkill, but good.
😉
I was an EO in the Navy Seabees when I was trained in A school we had just received the first batch of our MTVRs. I spent a lot of time driving these things way too fast through traffic haha
Riley, wander if there is a diff. lock out for highway driving. Turning all those gears at highway speed might be contributing to the trans. heating issue.
The look on your mom's face when you pulled up to her, that was great!!
OMG! GOOD JOB U2!
WOOHOO!!! Now that you have a fleet of construction equipment you can paint them to match your building, like a dark grey or something with new decals.
Semper Fi Riley. USMC approved outstanding.
