Maybe those Punch and Saturate knobs work similar to the softclipping in a way that you have to drive the input signal more into it? Tbh I couldn't hear a difference at all when you flipped those switches so that was my guess, since the soft clipping only does something when exceeding 0dB. I could be wrong though...
Ur right i got it yesterday its on sale at Plugin Boutique for $1. Id say the punch works better with the peak mode and saturate works better in bus mode.
@@jjwhittle8873 It's a running gag. He always tests on "Sandstorm" by Darude (perhaps the most iconic techno song ever), of couse it's never actually Sandstorm since he'd get his vids taken down or demonitized, so it's always some track he's allowed to play.
Just got this compressor off of Plugin Boutique for Black Friday. It came with two other WA plugins (SphereDelay and SphereQuad). It is a pretty neutral sounding compressor, but I see that as a good thing. I don't have many compressors in my toolbox that I actually use, but I see myself putting this one on group channels vs something more colored and pronounced.
Thanks so much for reviewing it! I appreciate it! :D I find when I use the punch, saturation and clean buttons pressed in, although its subtle, it adds something special. Even though its subtle. One of the most impressive things I found about this plugin was the presets which cater to modern day genre's and vocals. The main draw of this plugin isn't anything out of the ordinary(besides the subtle things like the soft clipping, clean saturate and punch), the main draw is the presets. Bus compression for stuff like deep house, future pop, actual current genre's. I don't think it matches hardware.. but I did find the presets way more useful than any izotope stuff or other plugins presets which don't really cater for stuff which is currently on radio. Thanks again for the review! :D Please at least try the presets and see what you think, and combine one of the presets with trying to lightly compress the bus with the clean, saturate and punch pressed in, it's not half bad :D
Alright, I've been up doing noise repair in RX all night, so maybe my ears are tired, but I didn't notice a hair's width of difference with the Punch or Saturation buttons. Could be RUclips, but I can usually tell small differences. That, to me, was crap. What I really want to know is when is Wytse going to find the "UI" button in reaper that turns the plugin interface off and just gives you sliders for all of the settings?
I've been using this the last month cause it was available $1 (plugin boutique), it's not too bad, i wouldn't really know how to tell the difference between my compressor plugins most of the time, i just hear it doing the job and go with it. Will need to try soft clip option, too. The fear factor is that correctly setting your compressor is a black art. You have need to be initiated to use compression properly. I have had to re -read instructions hundreds of times and still get it wrong. It's totally wrong to call this product snake oil. You are getting a working product, even with a bit of hype.
I heard a lot about Acustica Audio plugins and they say they sound amazing and they are the best emulations of analog equipments. I know that you hate analog style interfaces, but can you do a review of the main plugins of this company?
Acoustica is insane. Go watch a review of any of they're products and look at the amount of cpu they use. They're compressors and eqs dont us algorithms but impulse responses theyre convolution based. Id suggest downloading theyre free Tan comp and paying $3 bucks for an issue of Computer Music to get they're free archive and in it is Acustica Violet CM and Pink CM. Violet is a multiband valve comprrssor that will melt ur cpu lol.
Ah compressor? Run for your life! Oh my god, save our souls. Maybe they were referring to a scrap press? A very good and versatile plugin is the Waves Omni channel, but I'm afraid you would have to read the manual a bit, because it has a ton of options, which may not be obvious at first sight. You can freely arrange the signal flow, you have different compression types, saturation, very flexible EQ, etc. I sound like a salesman, well, I do really like it and I am not affiliated with them, of course :).
This i just W.A. releasing the 356th compressor of the year/industry, and hoping many people that buy their sample libraries might as well buy the plug-in, because, hey, it was made by 'them' '.... just like Mercedes releasing a reverb plug-in, and hoping some of their clients that purchased a 120k class S might want to try that new reverb, because, hey, it's Mercedes who are doing it... The first thing i find bad, is the interface: not only it has some strong colors, BUT the texts and the knee/compression display are badly rendered, without even a single anti-aliasing processing. .. the lines/strokes would at least look more pro, if it didn't look like a 1995 videogame with super poor resolution. .. Another thing, i would like one day someone to test and show us HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE there might be between, eg, the cubase 9.5 stock compressor, and 99% of the compressors available for purchase. .. The same with an eq... again, between cubase stock eq, and most eqs on the market. If we remove some possible saturation processing, what is it left ? For decades, devs are using the same algorithms, the same theorems, the same rules, the same maths. .. +2db on 500k in cubase is the same as +2db on 500k in ableton or studio one... That's why i find this so funny, when a dev claims 'my simulation will sound better than YOUR simulation '... or 'forget about the previous 400 delays plugins made by 400 devs...our delay plugin WILL SOUND MUCH BETTER than all the others'...
Hi! I really enjoy discovering a quick review of new plug-ins I'm interested in with you. I'd love to see you compare Cymotic Glue Compressor vs Waves SSL G Master Bus Compressor ? What do you think of it ? Great idea ? Have a nice day. ♫♫♫
Been following you for more than a year now and love your videos. I always thought that when you review a mastering plugin, I would be better for the viewers if you would you a track which was more raw and which actually needs to be mastered. (Than "Sandstrom" which sonically anyways already good). That way we could actually appreciate what the plugin is doing... Also without "gain staging" also makes it tough... Just a thought... By the way, what is your mail id? Thank you for your time and effort... Cheers
Oh... by the way. If you want to be scurred... literally... stick this bad boy inside Airwindows uLaw encode & decode. Still not scurrrred? Stack another layer of encode/decode around it... until the speakers blow. Be sure to pad the output with -12 dB at least... perhaps a limiter too.
Can you do a Snake Oil 🐍 review on the Appgee FX Rack? ..Or just do the most interesting one of the 5? Ik u get bored of Pultec emulations, but they actually worked with Pulse Technologies (current Pultec Manufacturer) to develop the algorithms. I have a Apogee Element interface and it is amazing, but I rarely ever use the plug-ins
So I'm not sure how they are even making money off of this but, on PluginBoutique you can get this compressor alongside 2 other audio FX all for $3.00?!? Plugin sales are crazy nowadays.
I love your sarcasm, you are funny and very honest, but sometimes you sound burlesque and flippant, specially for people that not have the 300 bucks to get a "real" SSL clone, causing some confusions and breaking some little expectancy for guys starting in the music production world... thanks.
All emulators are snake oil, period. Always will be, unless they're not emulating but are rather doing 1 or 2 simple algorithms that are completely different but achieving similar audio results (Airwindows ToVinyl, etc).
Please do Snake Oil on the SSL Native Plugins Bundle!
1:50 This should be your intro
I Can't thank you more. I hate the bullshit nonsense speeches.
@@DJMoein I think he more meant it as a joke. A mass panic intro would be pretty funny.

hahahhahahha :D

Hey! I love your snake oil videos - but one question ..
I never understood the term of „restless sound“ could you explain that?

can you make a snakeoil video about disperser?
Would love to see what you think of the Overloud LA Comp 🙂

Maybe an idea to snake oil review Harrison Mixbus 32c and Reason for their console emulation (not an entire DAW review?)
Ok suggestions: Tdr Limiter 6 Ge. Amazing. Klanghelm (all of his plugins are awesome, pick one). Dmg Audio Limitless

To be honest I think it's a really nice and easy to use compressor for the price. Nothing special but it's just a nice all around little comp.
comparing the price , this is soo worth it , i even got it for 19$
I just got it for 1$ at PluginBoutique.com
got it for $1. in fact i bought a bundle of 3 plugins for $3 at plugins boutique
We need the video on the Sennheiser 650 headphones and why did you decide to get 650 instead of 600 since everybody like 600
Just for info this is on sale at Plugin Boutique for $1!!! Just saying (until 4th November)

True, but many people of 2018 do not even know this ; )
W.A. Productions are mainly known for Soft Synth Presets. I wouldn't bet my money on them in terms of coding their own plugins.
