  • In 2019 I had the chance to hike the John Muir trail, a hiking trail that is considered by many, one of the most beautiful hikes in the USA.
    This video documents the journey in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, beginning from Yosemite Valley and ending on Mount Whitney, going thru wilderness areas and the national parks Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia NP. Spending 17 days in nature, and hiking total of 236mi or 380km.
    Sit back, relax and enjoy this journey into nature.

    I see others are saying this: This is the best JMT video I've seen. You did everything right in your production. No loud, obnoxious music. Very little "talking face" time- when you are on camera it is almost all of you doing things, not babbling. Steady cam and nice slow pans. Congratulations and thanks.

    I got to do the JMT from Yosemite to Mt. Whitney as a 15 year old in 1968 with 8 others in our group. Spent 28 days doing it with rest days on Wednesday's and Sunday's. Caught lots of trout for dinner and breakfast at Rae Lakes, one of the prettiest lakes along with 1,000 Island Lakes just out of Yosemite National Park. You missed videoing the best hamburger and fries at the Mt. Whitney portals cafe. Thanks for bringing back the memories of the JMT. I also got to do the High Sierra Trail from the Sequoia National Park trailhead to Mt. Whitney with my son in September 2015 and stood on top of Mt. Whitney a second time. High Sierra's is one of my favorite places.

    Yep. The best JMT video I’ve seen by far. I hiked the trail 13 years ago and I’ve been looking at JMT videos hoping to relive it. This is the first one I’ve seen that has done that. (Our snow and stream conditions were similar to what you had) I’d give this a “10”, the others I’ve seen I’d give a 3 or 4. Thank you for creating it!

      @@luboyanev Hi, does your bear canister BV 450 fit very well in your backpack? I'm debating if I would get the Arc Blast or the Arc Haul. Does the Arc Haul carries weight very well? Thank you.

    • @luboyanev
      @luboyanev  3 года назад +1

      @@malu221 Hey, the BV450 fit well in the backpack.
      I also experimented with having it empty on top of the pack, attached with the V-strap, but the BV450 is pretty short, so it wasn't optimal, but in side the pack I could play around, having it vertically or horizontally. And I had about 18lbs base weight (including bear can, camera gear, microspikes), and for the most part it carried very comfortably. It was a little heavier after VVR/MTR because I had food for 7+ days, but it was still manageable. If you can manage to have baseweight in the sub 15lbs, sub 20lbs, the pack shouldn't have any issues.
      And I don't have any experience with the Arc blast, but I am considering getting the Arc Air for future hikes, because now I have cut some more items out, and the Arc Haul is too big for what I carry. I think the Arc Air (or Arc Blast) seem to be a good sweet spot for their size, weight and features.
      Best of luck, and happy hiking!

    Loved this! It got me excited for my trip in 2021 (fingers crossed). I solo backpacked in Yosemite for the first time this summer and your intro showing Yosemite Valley brought me right back to my first time seeing the giant beauty of the wilderness.
    I have one question. I see you have a BV450. Was it big enough for all of your food or do you think it would be better to have a larger can? I have a BV450 and I'm trying to decide whether I should sell it and get the BV500. Thanks!

    • @luboyanev
      @luboyanev  3 года назад +2

      Thank you! Yes, Yosemite was such a beautiful place to start the hike.
      And regarding the bear canister, it was really cramped and after passing by VVR I couldn't fit all of my food in it, so I had to store 2 ziploc bags of couscous (no spices or anything) for 2 dinners, outside of the canister and inside my tent for 1-2 nights.
      One good tip would be to try and test at home, how many days of food you can for in yours. And I had actually tried that, but I also ended up taking some snacks from the hiker box and it then became too cramped in the bear can :)

    Wow that’s inspiring!! And really cool how you documented the journey so well. Do you need a permit to walk the JMT and is it easy to get?

    • @luboyanev
      @luboyanev  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! And yes, to hike the JMT it requires getting a permit. I hiked going south and I had first applied for the permit lottery which starts aprox 5 months (if I remember correctly) before the desired staying date. But I didn't win the permit for the days I wanted, so I was checking the trailhead cancellations reports, and I saw an opening for starting date that worked well for me and I called the ranger and got the permit that way. I would recommend googling "JMT permit" to get more familiar with the process, there are multiple ways to get it, depending also on is you're hiking north or south bound. Happy trails!
