And regarding food I would usually have a oats/musli/granola with nuts, raisins, protein powder, sugar, coconut flakes, then during the day I would have chocolate bars and nuts and dried fruit, and then for dinners I would usually have either noodles or couscous with peanuts, TVP (granulated soy), coconut flakes, spices and sometimes ketchup.. And I would usually soak the dinner for about 30minutes to an hour so it will be ready to eat :) Cheers!

Awesome job Lyubo, loved it and useful to know this can be done in Oct. I couldn't do it as light as you, that cold soaked stuff makes me wince just looking at it!
My wife and Daughter are starting in the morning south towards l'Onda, camping at Petra Piana with a herd of friendly cows tonight. They are finding the journey tough following the same direction you picked. Thank you for sharing the video, gives me a good feeling for what they are going through.
@@luboyanev Thank you, it was amazing. But it was a bit harder than I expected, so I only had time to go from Calenzana to Vizzavona. But I'll come back and do the rest in the future :)
@@MarkusFolz Yeah, and the north section is the tougher part of the trail, so congrats on completing that! And good to hear you still had a good time out there.
@@MarkusFolz I just saw your story highlights from your trip, it looked like you also managed to hike during the fall colors, and mostly good weather. But I was curious, I saw we have the same Duplex tent, and you had managed to have it pitched on the platforms near the huts. How did you manage to pitch it, it looked very well taut, did you tie rocks or sticks to the guylines, or did you use these platform anchors that zpacks sells? And btw. if I could give one piece of advice, I saw your footprint extended quite a lot away from the sidewalls, and this way when water drips down the tent it would gather up. I have cut my footprint to be the size of the baththub floor of the tent (or even slightly smaller), about 225cm by 110cm, so that water won't drip on it, and still protects the tent floor. Hope that will be helpful
@@luboyanev Awesome, thank you for the tip with the footprint. I had some issues with water building up between the footprint and the tent. Sometimes I stuffed the footprint under the tent, but most of the times I was too lazy... But I'll definetly cut it for the next trip! :) I used my normal tent stakes as kind of an anchor to pitch the tent on the wooden platforms, I'll send you a video on Instagram
I hope you will have a great time out on the island of Corsica, it's a stunning hike! And a bit of french could come quite useful, especially if you will be hiking during a busier time of the year. Best of luck!

@@luboyanev I completed in eight days. It is the hardest hike I have ever done. I lost the trail on day two when I took lunch at Asco and then proceeded to hike the Cirque de la solitude. Almost died, but other than that section, enjoyed the hike and the fall colors. 😆
@@CaryMercer amazing and congratulations! It's was a pretty physically challenging hike for me as well, but totally worth the effort! And good job for doing it in only 8 days!

GREAT video :-) Very informative and I love that you are explaining when, what and how. The best I have seen on the GR20 🙏 My wife and I are starting out on the trail the 1st of July, so probable a great deal warmer, but thank you for sharing your clothing experiences and weather conditions .👍
Great video. Awesome character. Beautiful views. My next hinking with my son in next july ( third for me et first for my son) I see your vid so many Times. Thanks Lyubo for that. 🤘⛰️
What a wonderful video of your hike. Thank you so much for taking the time to stage and record all those sections. My family is doing this soon and we can't wait.
Hello Lyubo, many thanks for posting this brilliant film! My friend and I were actually hiking the north section of the GR20 just a few days before you, and it was a pleasure to see some of the sights again so vividly and relive the experience.
Great video! I’m also going to be hiking the gr20 in early-mid October, next month. I expect the refuge situation will be similar with them being unmanned and some closed. Do you think I can rely on the gas stoves in the refuges for a hot meal most days, so i dont need to bring my own camping stove? Thanks!
Hey, sorry for the late reply, I hope you managed to make it work! In my case, so of the huts especially in the lower half were closed, so I just soaked my dinner in water in stead of cooking them.. Happy hiking!
I really enjoyed watching this ! 😍 Beautiful movie, really ! I made it last year during the summer. Congratulations for hiking alone out of season. Respect ! 😃
@@luboyanev oh man I found myself watching the whole experience again, vicariously following your journey. I am so envious of you doing that, truly marvelous creation. In my next life I want to do that trail. Thank you once again
Love the way you document your hikes, it is just a joy to watch. How big was your backpack and what do you take in it? How do you shower or wash clothes?
Thank you for the kind words!! On that hike I used a 38L pack (with 25L of the internal volume and 13L in the outside pockets), so it was quite small, but I was just enough to carry everything with me. And I flew with it as a carry on bag. And for showering and washing clothes, I usually do it in the lakes or rivers, or if there are any huts along the way, I would also shower there (on this hike I showered in the refugios in Calenzana before starting the hike, then in Vizzavona and Bavella). Happy hiking!
Thank you, I am glad you appreciated the effort! And regardless being the toughest, I think because I pushed myself to do two stages every day, and from walking on the hard rocks all day towards the end of the days I would start getting pretty bad pain on the sides of my knees and on my ankles, and I was carrying a pretty light pack. I think if I was doing one stage per day it would be way less painful and not so tough. I don't know if you saw my video from Lofoten, personally I had a tougher time there mostly because of the climate. The views on the GR20 also made the hard parts worth it. In the end hard to say if it's the toughest trail in Europe :) It is challenging, but it is worth it..
Wonderful video - was on the GR20 when 9/11 happened so was possibly one of the last people on earth to get that news. Inspired to go back in Sept and do the route again...will refuges be fully open do you know?
Thank you! And I thanks for the recommendation, never heard of it and looking on the photos online it does look nice. I have thought about hiking on Madeira, it looks so beautiful and seems like these days it's a really popular place to visit for hikers and tourists..
Amazing experience and wonderfull video memory you’ve created! Thank you for the inspiration, Lyubo. By any chance do you have gpx files of your route/itinenary? Would love to repeat your journey this June. Thanks so much! ✌🏻
Thank you, I am glad in was inspiring! And you could download a gpx file if you google E4 Bulgaria Fastest know time, and there is a link to the gpx file there. Happy hiking, I hope you get the chance to experience it!
Thank you! And that's a good question! On the top of my head: - Know how to get to the trailhead - Know how much food you will need to carry (depending on estimated pace and if the huts are open and serving meals) - Try to lower the weight of the gear, the GR20 has a lot of steep and rocky terrain, the heavier the pack the harder will be the experience - Know which season you'll be hiking, summer might be very hot (I don't have personal experience with hiking it in the summer so it's only a guess) - The trail is even prettier in real life Happy hiking :)
Thank you! And yes, I would have porridge everyday (with musli/granola, nuts, raisins, protein powder, sugar, coconut flakes), then as snacks I would have chocoalte bars or nuts and dry fruits, and for dinners I soaked either noodles or couscous with peanuts, TVP (granulated dehydrated soy), raisins, and spices. Happy hiking!
Thank you! Ooh, and I have heard many good things and have seen images of Scotland and it looks very impressive too, so one day I hope I'd visit. Cheers!
Magic stuff Lyubo!! Thank you for this wonderful content. It helps a lot when you're stuck behind a desk 😂 If you're ever in Cape Town, South Africa, give me a shout. Would love to show you our mountains.
Hehe, thank you Arno! I am glad it made your day more magical :) And I will let you know if I at some point end up going on a hiking trip in South Africa :) Cheers!

Congrats! Next one one could be The Peaks of Balkans ~ 190 km trail. And your videos are so inspiring. But I always ask myself... how tf he doesn't hate that "put the camera in position, return a few steps for recorrding, and get back to pick up the camera..."
Thank you for the recommendation, it's the first time I hear about this trail. And for the filming - it's a good question. You gotta really love it, even though sometimes it can be tough when you're tired or you wish to have reached camp already, but when you have an idea in your mind to create a good story the process can be enjoyable, and seeing and capturing great views also helps :) Cheers!
Thank you! Inspiring others is a big part of making these films. I just returned from a trip to Norway, so there should be a new (and shorter) film coming sometime in the future. Cheers!
It's a pretty long one :) I just looked at the website and looks like there is a solid organisation behind it, good job! I hope it attracts more people to explore the mountains in our balkan countries :) Cheers!

I learned very intresting things from this video : October is stunning, a man with a camera made the hike look moderate just very long, due to all the refuges you don't need to carry a tent, it didn't seem there is any extreme scrambling on this route
Thank you! And you have a good eye, October was indeed a great time to hike, though just in case to have the safety, I carried a shelter with me as some of the shelters in the lower half were locked and closed, and yes while there was some scrambling sections usually they weren't very long and not hard to manage.. Happy hiking, and best of luck if you decide to give the GR20 a try, it's a great hike!
I started to film my adventure as well, with drone shot and camera shot. I love your stuff, you have good idea and a good way to tell your adventures :) !
Any chance you will make a video about your equipment advice + tips & tricks for hiking trips? You seem like you have loads of experience and I am curious which shoes/backpacks/poles etc. you would recommend and how a novice hiker should start their journey to work up to advanced multi day trails. Thanks.
That is a great question! And to be honest I have even recorded a gear list video from the GR20, but I think it wasn't that good or helpful so I haven't finished editing it. I do agree though that such content can be very helpful and it is a popular subject too. If I would recommend one thing, it would be to check out the book "Ultralight backpackin tips" by Mike Clelland. Before starting to upload my hiking films I had more traditional gear, and switching to more ultralight equipment has made my outdoor experiences a lot more enjoyable. But I also hope I will release some videos in the future talking about gear recommendations, but it will probably be after about 6 months as I am currently primarily focusing on my career until the end of the year. Hope that helps, cheers!
Thank you for the beautiful video! Your backpack doesn't seem to be too heavy. Could you maybe tell us about everything you take on a trip and about the food you bring? Maybe you can do a video about it :).
Thank you, and very good suggestion, I have actually filmed a gear video, but I didn't think it turned out that good and never published it. In a few months I would like to release a new hiking film from a trip to Norway, and I might make a video about my gear then. Stay tuned, and enjoy your winter :)

Great video. The narration, the shots and the information. Just wondering about your conclusion - The toughest trail in Europe?
Thank you 🙏 great video
Wonderful video - was on the GR20 when 9/11 happened so was possibly one of the last people on earth to get that news. Inspired to go back in Sept and do the route again...will refuges be fully open do you know?
Wonderful hike and beautiful scenery. thank you for sharing.
Thank you for your comment, I am glad you liked it!
Really nice video ! I plan to go in end of September 2024
Great video. It has definitely whetted my appetite for an upcoming hiking trip to Corsica.👍
Thank you! And I hope you will get the chance to hike on that rocky and beautiful island 🏔️
You are one of the best hikers in youtube.
You should come to Portugal and try our national parque...Gerês. Congratulations
Thank you! And I thanks for the recommendation, never heard of it and looking on the photos online it does look nice. I have thought about hiking on Madeira, it looks so beautiful and seems like these days it's a really popular place to visit for hikers and tourists..
Throwing down poles is my most consistent memory of gr20 descents. And feeling lost from time to time.
Haha, yea while going on the scrambling parts, one can't really have the trekking poles in the hands :D
Thank you very much. You found the perfect balance showing lndscapes and also explaining your ecperience
Thank you! I am glad it was an enjoyable watching experience :)
Such great and inspiring content, keep it up! Beautiful journey👍🏼💛
Thank you, It was a beautiful hike indeed!
Fantastic video! Informative, beautiful and lots of atmosphere. What would you say are the top-5 most important things to know about hiking the GR20?
Thank you! And that's a good question! On the top of my head:
- Know how to get to the trailhead
- Know how much food you will need to carry (depending on estimated pace and if the huts are open and serving meals)
- Try to lower the weight of the gear, the GR20 has a lot of steep and rocky terrain, the heavier the pack the harder will be the experience
- Know which season you'll be hiking, summer might be very hot (I don't have personal experience with hiking it in the summer so it's only a guess)
- The trail is even prettier in real life
Happy hiking :)
Really nice video! Good job on the editing and commentary
Hey Lyubo, super nice video with wonderful pictures. Little question, what did you eat throughout the day? I saw porridge one or two times...
Your hiking videos are well narrated and beautiful scenery. You have a calming voice🌻
Thank you for watching and for your supportive comment :)
Superb film. Big fan of your work, Lyubo. Maybe see you in the Scottish mountains one day.
Thank you! Ooh, and I have heard many good things and have seen images of Scotland and it looks very impressive too, so one day I hope I'd visit. Cheers!
@@luboyanev Can’t promise as much sunshine as Corsica! 😆 But the mountains are good!
@@martindare9363 Hehe, yes! It would most likely have to be a last minute booking with the forecast looking promising :)
Excellent video Lyubo, great footage and narration. Thank you for sharing! You’ve convinced me to book my visit!
Thank you! And I am glad it inspired you! It's a really beautiful and at times rough trail, Have a great time out there! :)
For that I have an extra portion of respect ! Wonderful video of my favourite place on earth .
Beautiful hike my friend❤❤❤👍👍👍
Thank you for the support!!
Awesome video once again Lyubo! Keep inspiring us to go on great hikes. :)
Thank you! Inspiring others is a big part of making these films. I just returned from a trip to Norway, so there should be a new (and shorter) film coming sometime in the future. Cheers!
@@luboyanev Cool! Looking forward to that one. Norway is also high on the bucket list.
@@beerdemus2812 Yes, Norway was a beautiful place, but it also brought its challenges, stay tuned!
Congratulations Brother, and thank you for sharing your excellent adventure!
Absolutely, thank you for watching!
Hoorah a new hiking video!
Stunning video. This just went on my bucket list. Thanks for the inspiration
Thank you! I am glad I could inspire :) I hope you will get the chance to cross it off your list :) It's a tough but beautiful trip!
Very beautiful, you can try Via Transilvanica in Romania!
It's a pretty long one :) I just looked at the website and looks like there is a solid organisation behind it, good job! I hope it attracts more people to explore the mountains in our balkan countries :) Cheers!
awesome video maker and storyteller!
Happy hiking, and best of luck if you decide to give the GR20 a try, it's a great hike!
gorgoues trail, well filmed and edited...subscribed and waiting for future adventures 🦊🦊🦊🦊🦊
Thank you for the support! One video is in the works and a new adventures also coming up :) Happy hiking!
very good film, full with info. want to go there straight away))
Hehe, thank you! I hope you get the chance to hike these mountains :)
I started to film my adventure as well, with drone shot and camera shot.
I love your stuff, you have good idea and a good way to tell your adventures :) !
Thank you, and nice, just checked your videos - looking good, keep up the good work!
@@luboyanev So kindz ty !
Nice video with a very pleasant man with a very beautiful face in a very stunning place. 🇨🇦cheers from Canada
Hehe, thank you for the support! And lucky to be from Canada, such an incredible nature you guys have over there! Happy hiking!
Brilliant little Vid 👌thanks , going to try and get it done this year 🙂
Thank you! I hope you will make it through and have a great experience on the trail!
Amazing. Thank you.
My pleaasure, thank you for your comment!
whoooooa ! Pressed the like button in the first few minutes :) Can't wait to see it all ! Great filming and naaration.
Thank you, hope you enjoyed it all the way till the end :)
Great video, was supposed to do the trail in 2019 but never got around to it. I really enjoyed the colors you were able to capture 👍
Thank you! Yeah I was pretty lucky with the timing :) If you still desire to hike the GR20, I hope you get a chance to do it!
What a journey! Great adventure and movie!! 😁😍
Thank you for watching!
Great story telling.
Thank you!! I am glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, thanks for sharing
Bravo
Thank you!
Amazing video!!! Thank you for sharing your esperience on gr20
