Well, the guy that wanted to stay ... well as he said "put up with the storm" I found shocking ... He just wants to "put up with drowning ... Getting hit in the head ... being drowned ... ? What a death wish - he either had no one one that cares about him or a very fat life insurance, and even then if your in an evacuation area and you don't comply insurance will not pay a penny - I find him so sad.

Perhaps you are not a very compassionate person either.
Perhaps right now you are the type of person that likes to add insult to injury.
Perhaps one day you will understand and have some empathy and figure out how wrong you have been most of your life about mankind.

I lived 35+ years in SW Florida, right on the coast. When I saw a storm was headed our way, I evacuated, always!!

How about you reel it back into your territory. You know the Treasure Coast. Let the national news take over this role and let's focus on hometown news.

You live on an island in Hurricane zones. Yes, you will one day have everything flooded.
Be smart and build to survive it or don't live there.
I have no sympathy for people who live in areas where you know what will happen.

And those that live by that mentality will be ruled by that mentality. Measure humanity with a yardstick instead of your short, little 6" ruler. Just sayin...

It's about your life. But also I don't see insurance companies taking too much risk here so be prepared to pay a very high price to live in paradise. There is a way to live in Florida and it's next to Florida Man deep in the interior 150' above sea level in an 8x8 shack you built illegally with a sugar sand floor under a thick canopy of Pines, Oaks and Spanish moss.. then come out to the beach on the weekends like a tourist and sleep in your van.
