  • Dentist Dr. O talks about the risks involved with root canal therapy. Root canals are a great procedure when performed by a skilled dentist or endodontist. They allow infection to be removed while maintaining long term health of the tooth. This dental procedure is an extremely common procedure and root canal pain should not be part of this process when performed correctly.

I had a root canal done in early 2000 in Charleston SC where I had been transfered. I moved soon thereafter to Houston and immediately was asked why my head was jerking. Thought I was getting palsey but as time went on, it turned out that my lower right molar root canal was too high and eventually, the crown fell off...leaving ME with an injured nerve causing dizziness. It is so bad not, I have to have the tooth pulled...I no longer trust Dentists...they tell you you have a cavity but DO WE REALLY?

Carik Shawn its not in the hand of Dentist believe me, while some of them can truly perform an authentic work done, its also the nature of the dentitions and oral cavity as well, comorbidity also play their roles!! I had the same experience like you and eventually i has to pull it out. The thing is we fool ourselves that Dentists or doctors are divine but they are fallible as well because things are fucked up and not always what wish to be

I had a root canal done many years ago on a front tooth (no medical issues) After a couple of years the tooth darkened. Whitening strips were not working, finally went in and went with Internal bleaching. Couldn't be happier with the results.

    I have a question.
So my dentist recommended that I get my wisdom teeth pulled (weren’t bothering me) bcuz I occasionally clinched my teeth plus I had a tooth in front that needed a root canal but I chose to get it pulled (due to infection).
    So that’s 5 teeth.
Since having those 5 teeth removed I now clinch my teeth non stop (3-4 weeks now)
All this continue? Is there a way that the clinching can be corrected ?
    Thank you

Hello Dr. O...I find your videos very informational. I recently went to the dentist since I have a cracked tooth in the left top back of my mouth. It is due to decay but I guess the dentist told me I had to do a root canal. Aside from a root canal what other procedure can I do? I know the decay has not touched the nerve. I don’t live near your dental office but would there be any way you could look at my X-Rays? I hope I don’t seem to be asking for too much I just would like a 2nd opinion. Any information is beneficial to me right now because I have been doing my research but can’t find much.Thank you so much for your time.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions-love your very cute son and canine. I'm trying to decide to go ahead or not with a root canal. I just had my amalgams removed with the same heated controversies as root canals. I sometimes feel in the middle of the divide as most patients do but I'm doing research via pro/con basis and the more I learn, the more confusing it is--- little bit of info. is dangerous yet too much is indecipherable. But, this topic could be debated alongside the health risks of chemo, radiation, pharmaceuticals, and vaccines--just to name a few. Well, thanks for making the video.

I got a root canal. The dentist had a temporary filling put in while I wait to return for the crown. But before getting the crown my tooth broke and the filling fell out. I went back to the dentist, and now he's saying I'll need a bridge instead. I don't really like the idea of having my other teeth (supporting teeth) cut away for a bridge. What are some other options.

broke my heart, but I got a root canal done today with the gentle wave treatment, she save a lot of my tooth, told me I wouldn't need to get a crown but I d have to get the next own done as well and not wait too long because from the imaging it shows it was getting worse, this one took longer because the cavity had got in the gum, ppl were telling me to go to other places because it was cheaper and they do the same thing but all this ladies does is root canal, I trusted her because she attended me from the phone as well during this pandemic. It sucks because it cost a lot but if its a couple extra hundred to be able to get more bacteria out that the regular equipment can't get, then at least your lowering the risk some more. So hopefully I feel better and get the other one done as well, she said if I had gome to a regular guy they would of just take more tooth away that is healthy and put a crown on it, one to charge more and two because they all don't use a microscope or gentle wave, and honestly in the places I've been they never used microscopes before. Im in pain now but praying for the good to happen and keeping my fingers crossed, I wish everybody the best that's reading this and follow me. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Jeansi makasambe im not doctor, but in my experience you should not eat on one side beacuse it leads to tartar(thick yellow strains) on one side of tooth your not using and you'll experience clicky jaw (TMJ) after years and then your eating oneside of tooth your face will be assymmetrical. Finally there will be no cavity but you'll experience so many other things

Always choose to lose the tooth. Believe me, I chose to get my teeth pulled & only crappy part about it was the 72 hours after the extraction. After that I was painless & eating subway again lmao.
With root canal it doesn’t “save” the tooth. It just delays the extraction. There’s no saving something that’s dead lmao. All root canals do is put more money in the dentist pocket & cause you pain within the next 3-8 years which will make you put even more money in their pocket when you return.
    Trust me, always pull it.
Take it from me, brush, floss, & do y’all 2x a year check up. Your mouth will thank you!

Gunkesari Kumari you should have gotten a crown put on it within the 6 weeks you got the rct... it’s a temporary filling for a reason... meant to hold the tooth over while your crown is being made assuming you want a white crown. You could schedule an appointment to have a stainless steel crown put on the tooth vs waiting for your crown to be made In a lab. It all really depends but you need to contact your regular dentist for an exam first.

It depends how deep the infection has gone.for the time ebeing i would rinse the tooth with a solution of 1:1H2O2 and after drip clove oil on it and in it as often as possible.. It helps with the pain . It can heal the pain but u need to use it consistantly. But eventually u must visit the dentist to fill the cavity.

Twice he only did the one root, now that root has a small inf, now I have to go back to him, for another root canal? Is it normal to only do one root? Shouldnt you do both? After having a root canal and crown done on a tooth about 10 years ago I started feeling a little tinge in it 7 years later. Dentist told me now I needed a bridge. The root canal and crown was the tooths "2nd" life. Then they took me right over to another room and started it. Thought it was strange that they didn't set up another appointment for it. It happened so fast I let them do it. Then they told me I needed another tooth crowned. Did not have it done. The new dentist never ever mentioned anything about the tooth the other dentist wanted to crown. I want to name the place but I won't.

Joyce M. I got a front tooth root canal at my dentist and the next day also had a molar pulled at the oral surgeon office. When I got in the oral surgeon's office he said he really liked my dentist because she only does what is necessary unlike some other dentists. It made me feel good about the procedures I was having done and that they were truly necessary but on the other hand also told me that there definitely are dentists out there that do things that aren't necessary so you have to watch out for that. He also asked me if I was allergic to penecillin and I didn't know but my dad is so he used something else. I found out a week later on an allergy test that I'm allergic to it so I apprciated that also.

  • @gemum4219
    @gemum4219 5 лет назад +3

There is a possibility to regenerate the tooth pulp so the root does not have to be removed. I read in dental literature that it requires: 1. DISINFECTION and, 2. Protection (cover/crown) so the root can regenerate. Why keep the vitality of the root? Because the vitality of the root provides a structurally supportive base that a dead root cannot. The inner tooth structure, unlike the enamel is alive. That live structure, the dentin, the pulp/root is so much better when it remains vital. Suggestion Dr O, you have the passion for a lot of things, please look into it at some point when you can make this a viable part of your practice. Maybe when you're REALLY wealthy and think, "hmmm, I can afford to seek ways to make this monetarily efficient procedure." Just keep it in the back of your mind cause I know that is how ideas go from idea to fruition. I know if anyone has the curiosity, the passion and drive, it's you.

Yes moistere builds up in the canal after denerving and if not timely filled uo can cause a secondary infection. A waiting time a 2 weeks at min is involved. If the tooth was an unhealthy tooth already before having a root canal vs a broken sterile tooth.. chances for having problems in the long rum are very likely. My personnal experience. Of course we’re in the middle of COVID and I was afraid my dentist would just want to yank it. I went to a different dentist who gave me antibiotics and sent me home as he was limited to what he could do to help me. The antibiotics didn’t help and after the follow up he figured that my pain was due to the adjustment to the missing molar bite wise. The pain did eventually go away. I am nervous that its time will come as the root canal is 25 years old! I feel like I have fully adjusted to life without one back molar so if I do need the other gone I’m prepared to deal with it. It’s been four and a half months since the extraction now. I wouldn’t say my health issues have cleared up with the root canal tooth gone though. But I’m surviving :)

My symptoms (since May of this year) according to the tooth-body meridian chart are -- vertigo, dizziness, tinnitus, headache, sinus, stiff neck & shoulders, joint pain on the left arm, motion sensitivity, and imbalance. All these nightmares from just that last molar on the right bottom. Been to ENT, Neurologist, and Chiro and nothing seems to connect!
May thanks to the doco Root Cause. I have advised everyone I know not to ever get a RC and to take them out!

@@ceciliaelias6370 @Jen Howie How are you both doing? Facing this decision myself at 29, and considering pulling. 20-25 years is a long time for it to last, but I'm wondering if either of your health improved after extraction. Appreciate any input

I have had a tooth with a root canal in the front for about 15 years and just had a front crown placed on it three years ago and it’s super painful and tender to the touch what does this mean? Sometimes i bump my bottom teeth on my front two crowned teeth could this cause it to become sore?

Which tooth did you get it on & why you decided to finally get a crown? I've had a root canal on my front tooth 4yrs ago. I do not have a crown. Don't have any issues with my tooth. I've been told I don't need a crown & I've been told by others that I do.

Is it better to get a dead tooth pulled or a root camel though? I need a direct answer

I would follow the advice of a dentist that you trust that has access to your records. ;) I wish you the best

The dentist telling you root canals are safe is also giving out cookies and driving distracted.

You have not seen anything to support that theory, where have you looked? Info from modern medicine ( which is based on pharmacological interventions)? Just curious. . .

FYI: I terminated the video before the information about root canals. You were rambling on about nothing.
