  • Are Root Canals Safe and Can you get Cancer?
    marylandholisticdentist.com/r...
Once root canal treatment is done it cannot be reversed. When the pulp and nerve tissue of a tooth starts dying, the tooth will either need to be removed or a root canal will need to be performed - it is that simple. Root canals can save teeth, but at what expense to your pocket and health? This article will discuss the pros and cons of root canals and how to properly remove them once they abscess and fail. Root canal teeth will eventually crack, break or create an infection in your jaw bone. They do not last forever. On average they last 5 - 10 years before causing noticeable pain and problems.
Concerns About Root Canals are more than Holistic and Biological Quackery
A root canal is a filling placed in the root of your tooth where the living tissue used to be. Prior to filling the root, the dentist cleans it as best as he/she can. But it is impossible to clean all the pores of the tooth root. Over time, bacteria and fungus can grow in the tooth and leak out into the jawbone. The immune system of healthy people will usually kill the bacteria and fungus as it leaks out. But no one really knows what happens or where this bacteria can go in your body. And for that matter, if it can cause diseases such as cancer and autoimmune disease. Additionally, some people can be sensitive or allergic to the filling in the root. It is really that simple. A root that can leak bacteria or filling material that can be irritating or cause infection. Additionally, the dead tooth, like a dead tree gets more brittle over time. And it is more likely to break. These are the reasons why root canals do not last forever. But in certain cases they can last 10s of years. And a root canal may be the only way to save a tooth from extraction. But are you just buying time for it will need to be removed anyway?
    Alternatives to Root Canals
If a tooth is dying or dead there are no alternatives other than a root canal or extraction. Your best bet is to try to prevent the tooth nerve from dying with treatments such as dental ozone. And correcting the cause of the problem such as a high bite or deep cavity. Implants are considered to be the best alternative treatment to a root canal. A dental implant is not an exact alternative to a root canal since it involves removing and replacing the tooth. Here are all the options:
    root Canal
remove the tooth and do nothing
extract the tooth and do a bridge
replace the tooth with a dental implant
Some people make this decision based upon value and dollars and cents. Considering a root canal on the average lasts 5-10 years, many people will go right to the implant. Implant dentists expect implants to last a lifetime. Others opt to do everything they can to save their natural tooth, spending whatever it takes to try to save their tooth. Some people feel like rather than risk having bacteria leak into their body and losing money, they will go right to the implant. Anyone making an educated decision cannot make the wrong decision. It is up to the patient to select the treatment they want based on informed consent.

Wish I saw this years ago. Glad I found it before considering getting a re-treatment on one of my failed treated teeth. You explain perfectly why these are to avoided, for that I thank you.

There is a 7 min video on YT of a lady with infected implants that would have died had she not addressed the infection. Dr Jerry Tennant suffered 7 years and also nearly died from tooth 14’s root canal. He explains that teeth are like “breakers” and organs are affected when those breakers are turned “off” through root canals or infections. I look at tomb stones as I pass by cemeteries and wonder just how many died from root canals and never knew it. How sad.

Informative, thanks. Is pulling the only other option then? Is there a way to build the tooth back up with nutrition alone?

Thank you. Just having to make the decision and am leaning towards direct extraction.
Saw the endodentist today. He did not seem too confident and wants to open it up and see if tooth s cracked.
I had one root canal that failed 10 years ago.

I'm making the decision for my 13 yr old whether or not to go down the route of a root canal or extration. I went to a holistic dentist and I asked her opinion. She said if it were her child, she'd go w root canal and then later when old enough have them make their own decision of what they would want later. He already suffers from anxiety, etc. Now I feel a root canal would make matters worse..

What supplements or foods etc can you suggest if you have had a RT, to keep it cleaner or..? Would you suggest anti biotics or natural antibiotic..? Would you suggest to have it removed in 6 months? You will get symptoms yes, if there's a problem? I did NIT know this when I got this procedure, and questions at the dentists are always brushed off. I don't use flouride etc or Chen's where possible so an ordinary private dentist is an issue for me

Once the RC is done, it’s a tough call. I base the decision on if there’s infection, med history and patient wishes. If is infected it should be addressed.

Usually root canal retreatments have lower success rates and increased infection risk. A high quality titanium implant or zirconia implant works well. Just depends on the patient and situation.

In your opinion do you find bacterial residue, normally found on an infected root canal, when pulling a calcified central incisor that died from trauma as opposed bacterial decay?

    • @SereneOrthodontics

It certainly is a different situation, but a dead tooth after a while can abscess the same as the others.
