    This works ! I had a toothache from a cavity and it was starting to bother me. I started doing a salt water rinse every hour or so for the first day and then a few times the second day. By the third day my pain was gone completely. I now do this every day in the morning and night along with brushing and flossing and no problems. Yes, I know I need to get the cavity filled, but in the meantime this works.

      you can also use clove oil. it tastes terrible but you put it on a qtip and place it against the gums where the pain is and leave for 5 minutes. the pain will go away for weeks

      No. Do not use clove oil long term. I have seen resorption result when patients drop oils around pockets long term. This is also not a cure. You are masking pain but not addressing the problem.

      Its never too late and I am glad you are seeing improvement. If you take care of things now or prevent them, you will save. a lot of time, energy, and frustration in the long run. If you were to have sodas, its better to limit the amount of time you spend drinking them. For example, its better to have the entire soda in 5-10 minutes instead of sipping on it all day long because your saliva can not effectively neutralize the acidity if you sip on it all day long. I believe floss can cause problems. I just recently started flossing and one tooth got infected and bubble appeared. The dentist said that the infection was in a pocket. It had to be extracted it was so infected. I continued flossing on the other side and a few weeks later now there is pain on the tooth…no bubble yet. I believe when you floss you have a risk of taking that bacteria and pushing it to the top of the tooth which is what happened to me. I’m hoping the salt water treatment will remove the infection since I don’t have a bubble yet. I will not be using floss anymore though.

    • @BiomimeticDentistry
      @BiomimeticDentistry  2 года назад +2

      I would see another dentist and ask them about it. Its important to prevent these problems so if your dentist won't answer you, or if you are not sure, then the best thing is to get a second opinion. Salt water is great for improving gum health, but not if there is some more significant problem. Also, if you have tartar and calculus beneath the gums, they will never settle down until that is cleaned well and maintained.

    • @NicholasPeters1
      @NicholasPeters1 2 года назад +1

      @@BiomimeticDentistry I don't know if I have calculus and or tartar beneath the gums but I do have tartar, plaque and or calculus right at where the gums are at of lowest level of gum recession (before exposing the teeth more) and I clean them out every few days or weeks when I feel like it or see like it has come back so badly that I just want it all gone. The doctor also stated I do not need deep cleanings/scaling done but I definitely have gum recession, nerve pain, my teeth seem at times like they are lowering in height on their own for some reason, I have red and or purple gums (not horribly red or purple bad enough), some sensitivity at times and also bad sensitivity at times too, black spots between my teeth, a little bit of bone loss, yellow and or brown spots on my teeth and bleeding gums at times when flossing. The doctors say I don't have peridontal disease but I know that is not true--some previous doctors say I should get gum grafting or bone grafting - so I trust what those doctors said about my bone loss but I do not want to get gum grafting or bone grafting--both procedures are too expensive and they only do parts of the mouth when I have gum recession everywhere. I'm hoping for some serious miracles with my oral health.

I guess granny's knows best. The solution she gave me wasn't so concentrated though. It was salty but drinkable. But after I turned 8 I left the country and now in Australia. My mom doesn't give it to me so I didn't do it anymore. Probably should have kept it up. I was too young to know it was good. I just thought it's some old lady tale. Bacteria will not grow on salt, gold or copper. Salt is cheap, gold is expensive and copper protects itself from decay by forming an oxide barrier on the outside. It turns a green color as does the Statue of Liberty and copper compounds are sprayed on asphalt based shingles at the factory to protect them from mold growth and staining. The applied increases the cost by raises the warranty. I know that much and I only fixed cars for 38+ years.

      It would help slow the process possibly but it won’t cure the pocket with professional debridement. Calculus/tartar in the pocket will not allow resolution of the pocket unless removed and maintained. You should have professional treatment by a periodontist if you have deep pockets like that.

      I am not sure what it means for your gum to feel fuzzy. I would try to see your dentist as soon as possible. This is an excellent way to minimize periodontal and gum problems but it won't reverse tartar, build-up, etc. It is an effective way to help control, but you still need professional intervention.

    I'm having cavity in my tooth......can i get rid of it using this remedy??

    • @BiomimeticDentistry
      @BiomimeticDentistry  3 года назад +5

      It will definitely not get rid of a cavity, there is no way to get rid of a cavity besides restoring it. Some people talk about early demineralization as cavities, and those can be maintained with mineralization of the surface layer because the surface has not been cavitated (there is no break or indentation/hole). I do not consider early demineralization a cavity, just a sign that oral hygiene and maintenance need to be modified to minimize chance of becoming a cavity. Hope that helps. Best- MN

    some sites say not to do it more than 3-4 times a week because it can damage enamel....

    ?? yet some say it's safe everyday?

    • @BiomimeticDentistry
      @BiomimeticDentistry  2 года назад

      knowledge is power. There is nothing in salt water that will damage enamel. It is not acidic and it is not abrasive since you are not brushing with it. Regardless, I wouldn't plan to do this for life. It's a great technique for periods of time, but daily is unnecessary and it gives the false sense that this will replace other preventative care and maintenance. Best- MN

      The articles you were referring to prob meant the gums. Is it still sensitive? If the procedure was done well, sensitivity is not normal. Unfortunately it is common if you do not know how to avoid it predictably and its one of the things I teach in my dental courses.

    • @BiomimeticDentistry
      @BiomimeticDentistry  2 года назад +2

      This is ideally for intermittent or short term use to treat an active problem. The oral absorption is most likely not significant, there were studies done on this with saline solution and there was very little sodium intake. Either way, I would only be using this for 1-2 weeks to treat inflamed or irritated gums.

    What exactly does salt water do to benefit teeth and gums?

    • @BiomimeticDentistry
      @BiomimeticDentistry  3 года назад +7

      Periodontal disease comes down to controlling bacteria/biofilm. Salt water kills the bacteria and disrupts biofilm. The osmolarity of the salt causes the bacteria to pop basically.

    • @BiomimeticDentistry
      @BiomimeticDentistry  3 года назад

      Unfortunately not that revolutionary. In my opinion, this is excellent for an adjunct to maintaining the health of the gums and supplementing your oral care regime. It definitely will help in controlling periodontal disease and cavities, but it will not single handedly restore or reverse the current condition if there is not some sort of initial therapy or control. Think of this as an excellent means of preventing or reversing early stages of gum inflammation, but once there is pockets, bone loss, and tartar build-up or cavities, those would all need to be addressed then this would help prevent them from re-occuring. If i was using this, I would do it for a few weeks to help the transition back to health then try to slowly eliminate this and maintain with bruss, floss, waterpik for the long term.

      You only need enough water to rinse with, so maybe 4 fl. oz (half a cup) but you can make more, you just wont need more than that. You can use less salt, but super-saturated is the most effective. You mix the salt until you find it will no longer mix and collets at bottom.
