Brands that listen to customer feedback 👌...I really like the applied B at the twelve and nice to see Baltany still producing genuine quality. I haven't bought one for a while, but I try to keep up to date. Cheers for the lovely video as always 😎🍻
As I said in the vid it is intended to be that way...having owned many and currently two Baltany watches it's hard not having the same Lume...after all it gets pretty dark here in Scotland for most of the time 🙂
The logo is fine. There’s only so much you can do when your company is named Baltany. I also think the lume is adequate given the style of the watch and the small surface area onto which the lume compound can be applied.
Baltany is really stepping up their game! I love the watch AND the B logo at the 12. I would have gone for the two tone gold face as it reminds me of the watch my Dad used to wear. As much as I like lume, I don't really care about it on this type of watch to be honest. None of the watches of the time period this watch is homaging had good lume. Great review buddy!
Fantastic review of a fantastic watch. This is at the absolute top of the shopping list for the upcoming sale. In fact I don’t really have anything else in the cart. I don’t mind the “B” at all and as for all the smaller issues, I would definitely pay an additional $25 or so for them to address them. Thanks for the great review as always!
Thanks Albert. It will be interesting to see the mix of comments here. It will be a mix of the usual...women's watch, too small, don't like it as it's an homage....let's see ;)
Great vid! Ordered one for myself. The logo is fine for me, especially when knowing that it's a mix of the first letters of both founders' names of Baltany. Mr.Ballu and Mr.Tanner.
Lovely looking watch. I personally like the logo, looks classy to suit the watch and differenciates it from the competition, keep this logo for your dressy watches Baltany wouldn't work on a military or dive style watch. Not too keen on the clasp though and the lume, well its a dress watch so i can forgive them this time. All in all another hit. Cheers John.
I ordered this in the burgundy and gold. Didnt take long to arrive and when it did, wow! Its an absolute beauty. I had two issues with it. 1) I found it a tad too small (ive got a 7" wrist and am used to 39/40mm or larger watches) and 2) as beautiful as it is, its soooo blingy. I just couldn't work out when i would ever wear it? So in the end i couldn't justify it and have sent it back. Its a shame really because that burgundy and gold dial really is special.
Sorry to hear that but I am exactly the same with The Erebus Ascent. Expensive mistake....but I'll use it to compare to the San Martin Sn0144- GX I have coming in (36mm) 😊
@johnswatchjoint I have one of those coming in the orange! I had looked at the Erebus but taxes etc killed any chance of a purchase for me..I'll keep an eye open for this review ☺️
Hey John, I start to fallow you 1 year ago, and let me tell you you’re content is as good if not better then just one more watch-I like watches-just the watch-relative time-brave betters-the watchers-watching james and list go on… I feel your honest good vibes from someone who is down to earth, your narrative is smart and sensible, always a pleasure to listen to your review. Who knows you might review my brand watch one day.
Benefits of frequent reviews of interesting, diverse watches: raising even the high standards/features via John's constructive suggestions. Yes, quick release bracelets! ❤
Excellent review John on a very tempting watch. My daughter has asked me to get her a D/D style watch but with a pink dial. I can only find a ‘Seiko’ on watchmodders but if you know of any alternatives in this level of finish please share 😊
Great review 👍. I think you got the best colour, I quite like the B and they have made a good homage. I wish they had brushed the lug tops like older Datejusts, and I have always hated the bling fluted bezel, so it isn't for me.
That's the thing...I've never been into that style but now I'm older... and seeing how good it looks and feels on the wrist, I may hang on to it for a while.
@johnswatchjoint Enjoy it 👍 They do wear well, I bought my Datejust in the mid 90s, and it has an engine turned bezel, a little more interesting than the plain polished one, but without the eye catching fluting.
I'm not much of a dress watch kind of person. I just don't live the kind of life that merits a dress watch. However, with that said, Baltany really have done a beautiful job with this watch. Very nice review of the watch and the brand John.
I've always loved the look of the fluted bezel, ever since seeing the gold day-date on Tony Sopranos wrist, but I just can't wear it, kills me to say it but it just looks terrible on me.
When this style was new and represented Rolex and everything that went with it I hated it, but I now collect affordable date justs from the period. They have a tongue in cheek aspect. But I’m ready to join the Date Just ‘church’ now, and not being able to afford a Rolex, I would like a serious one…. And then this happened. Perfect. Not to be confused like the ‘fauxmages’ but good enough to be taken seriously. My only question is which colour?
I think a Baltany is for me this time around. I was tempted by a Cronos but not sure the integrated bracelet is for me. especially since I didn't win the 13,000 subscibers competition. Just saying 😂😂
I mean, the watch was intended to be a vintage datejust homage with very small amounts of lume and a fauxtina tint. I think there is no reason to be disappointed in it. If it has that performance on a moderm datejust homage, it would be more reasonable.
@johnswatchjoint Completely understandable! I just found it offputting when you compared it to a W10 field watch when it has a different purpose. Great review anyways!
No no it was actually to prove my point...Baltany excel in the Lume department so fans of the brand would expect good Lume as for example on the two Octopus Kraken watches of the same style 😉
@@johnswatchjoint I was pertaining to the W10 being a flieger watch, so it is quite expected that it should have a good lume. The Baltany vintage DateJust is a dressier one, which eliminates the use of a good/bright lume. I understand your point, that even though it was not a requirement for such types of watches, lume should still be great. However, because of the design, the lume being subpar should not be seen as a dealbreaker or a major issue.
If they ever produce a quartz version then count me in. An additional benefit would be that they could reduce the height of the watch if they wanted. Not sure of the pricing as, like San Martins, they have become a bit pricey nowadays.
Be warned: I have ordered and received this watch, and have a small wrist at 6 1/2in which is why I have mostly 36mm to 38mm watches. Yet this is the only watch whose bracelet does not fit! It doesn't have enough screw links to be removed to allow for a proper fit and balance on the wrists. I've even moved the micro adjust to the max yet still not fitting my wrist. I'm utterly disappointed considering how nice the watch is, but let down by a poorly designed bracelet.
I would remeasure your wrist as my wife is wearing this and her wrist is just under 6.5 inches. My wrist is 6.75 inches and there were two links still available for removal. It sounds like you have a 6.25 inch wrist which is obviously right on the cusp 😔
I'm a bit weirded out that I don't like stuff that is obviously popular with a lot of people, but it's just horses for courses I guess. I'm just dead basic I guess 🤦♂️
It's nice, but should resemble a vintage DJ more. Rehault is too thick, bezel a smidgen too wide, sapphire should be curved, champagne dial would be perf and a little less cyclops

I think they nailed it even the lume because it’s a vintage Rolex 1601 homage. I especially like the recessed outer ring with the seconds on the dial.
Logo is perfect, and this is the sort of watch that isn't supposed to have much, if any, lume. It's meant to be that way.
As I said in the vid it is intended to be that way...having owned many and currently two Baltany watches it's hard not having the same Lume...after all it gets pretty dark here in Scotland for most of the time 🙂
It’s very pretty.👍🏾🇬🇧
I don’t get the obsession with lume, who goes around in the dark looking at the time??
I do...it's Scotland and it's dark here half the time!
The logo is fine. There’s only so much you can do when your company is named Baltany. I also think the lume is adequate given the style of the watch and the small surface area onto which the lume compound can be applied.
I am tempted by this one
It would definitely fit you 😉
Me too.
Sugess s447 Datejust homage is even better imo

Thank you. Someone who actually knows what the brand means. So many people insult it without understanding they are insulting two great human beings 🤗
I like the logo. I have a Baltany similar to this with a satin dial, it is incredibly well polished.
They make great watches. Not for some but I really appreciate them.
When I use a dress watch I prefer to not have a torch going off when I pull up the sleeve.
Good thing they improved the micro adjust.
Haha!

All good points and definitely food for Baltany to digest! 🤗
I ordered this in the burgundy and gold. Didnt take long to arrive and when it did, wow! Its an absolute beauty.

Great review, John, i like it. A lot of watch for your money. It will definitely scratch that R itch....
This Baltany's quality is quite obvious from the video. Thanks for the review 👍🏼
My pleasure! ☺️
Benefits of frequent reviews of interesting, diverse watches: raising even the high standards/features via John's constructive suggestions.
Yes, quick release bracelets! ❤
Doesn't hurt to ask politely does it? haha 😆
Beautiful Review This watch is spot on Im very much a vintage R nut its on my list!
Nice 🙂
Excellent content, keep the good work !!
🤗
Subscriber from Aberdeenshire, keep the content coming 👍
Thanks Darren. 👍
I like the B and the lume is no big deal on a dress watch. Great videos btw.
Thanks Dylan
Love the look of this one just took small for me. Great content as always
Thanks for watching Gareth :)
I like the logo . Well done !
Another Great Review 👍🏻
Thank you :)
Logo works for me, lume not an issue on this watch for me

@@johnswatchjoint Can I use your email?
I have been looking for datejust alternatives! I will probably get the San Martin 40 in the upcoming sale
Sugess s447 is amazing if your looking for a datejust 36

Yeah we do live in a different era and dress watches are usually hand-me-downs but I appreciate what Baltany do 🙂
I've always loved the look of the fluted bezel, ever since seeing the gold day-date on Tony Sopranos wrist, but I just can't wear it, kills me to say it but it just looks terrible on me.
I think any fluted bezel just looks terrible, full stop. Just don't get it.
It's an invitation nobody wants to a 'look at my chandelier' party.
I was surprised that my wrist liked it...more surprised that I am warming to it as I am not a DJ fanboy!
That’s a strap monster!!!
A watch that well made deserved a high beat movement imo.
It does. Once you get used to 8 ticks it is hard to go back to 6.
For this price it should ve been a pt5000
Sugess s447 has a ETA clone st2130 movement
I love that watch, John. It's just like the one worn by Patrick Bateman. Will you get their GMT Master? Cheers
I have some options I'm looking at just now.

Great watch but im not so sure of the bezel ? it leaves me cold .
Great watches though .
Octopus Kraken are the bench mark for me… their looming all their products so brilliantly quickly takes the money from my pockets
I mean, the watch was intended to be a vintage datejust homage with very small amounts of lume and a fauxtina tint. I think there is no reason to be disappointed in it. If it has that performance on a moderm datejust homage, it would be more reasonable.
That's why I said it was done on purpose and I absolutely get it. I am just so used to Baltany's outstanding lume as I own two 🤗

39 or 40mm will be very ideal for today watches!
Unfortunately watches are moving towards us guys with smaller wrists...you had it good for a long while 😊
36mm for the win. Larger is bs.
If they ever produce a quartz version then count me in.

Quality does cost. We have seen that the cheaper watches always have caveats... 😉
I appreciate the photography of this video, but this watch just is not for me. I think it's the fluted bezel which is true to the original.
Be warned: I have ordered and received this watch, and have a small wrist at 6 1/2in which is why I have mostly 36mm to 38mm watches. Yet this is the only watch whose bracelet does not fit! Looks well executed, but just not my thing. Both fluted bezels and cyclops are instant no goes for me.
Can't fault the quality and value though.
It suits a specific taste. I have grown to like it when the original was something that passed me by. It's good to keep an open mind I suppose 🤗
I'm a bit weirded out that I don't like stuff that is obviously popular with a lot of people, but it's just horses for courses I guess. I'm just dead basic I guess 🤦♂️
Enjoying the videos. Not really my style of watch. Would like it better without the fluted bezel. Don’t mind the new logo.
Why put lume if it doesn't last, I'd rather have a very nice sculpted non-luminous hands and indices
It takes after the original design
@@johnswatchjoint sure thing, but Baltany should do his own thing with the hands.
The chunky ill-fitting clasp doesn't fit the watch at all.
Do you have one or are you just making assumptions?
Way too loud / blingy for my taste.
Looks more like a womens watch design wise. (If it was smaller).
Not a Rolex fan then 🤗
@johnswatchjoint
Not particularly..
I know nothing..just what I like.
Always interesting to see different stuff tho as tastes can change over time.
Exactly. I just love handling watches and I will be going through my own collection this month. Good microbrands and my grail 😉
@@johnswatchjoint
Look forward to both. 👍
Tend to agree, where or when would you wear it?
It's nice, but should resemble a vintage DJ more. Rehault is too thick, bezel a smidgen too wide, sapphire should be curved, champagne dial would be perf and a little less cyclops
Wow ..a bespoke watch just for you perhaps? That'll cost 😉
@johnswatchjoint actually those are very doable changes for hardly any money at all, if at all...
