- Share Your Research: a two part series, recorded for Mount Sinai School of Medicine
In these workshops, Dr. Thi Nguyen talks about how to Share Your Research by delivering a clear message and connecting with your audiences. In Part I - “Give your Research Talk like TED”, participants will build storytelling skills by applying techniques based on narrative and neuroscience, and analyze and enjoy examples of effective presentations from TED Talks. In Part II - “Slide Design for Job Talks and Conferences”, participants will gain insights into designing simple yet impactful visuals that complement verbal communication. These sessions were delivered as interactive, experiential learning with practice and feedback.
By the end of this two-part series, participants will
-Outline a research talk using storytelling techniques
-Identify your message and desired impact
-Select storytelling elements to use in your talk (e.g., curiosity, novelty, hooks, analogies)
-Explore the role of visuals in enhancing the clarity and impact of a talk

Speaker
Thi Nguyen, PhD is a neuroscientist, community educator, and national speaker who trains researchers across disciplines in telling their research and career stories. She offers a facilitated learning experience centered on effective and inclusive practices. She has worked with over 20 universities, societies, and foundations. Thi earned her dual degrees in psychology and biology from UT Austin and a PhD in neuroscience from UT Southwestern Medical Center. Currently residing in Greater St. Louis, she also supports local nonprofits in telling their stories to gain funding and recognition for work towards equitable education and workforce.
