The ANTONOV AN2 is a beautiful aeroplane. 74 years old now and have never been in an aeroplane of any kind, If I was to have the opportunity to fly it would be in an ANTONOV AN2.
I think it was back in the 1980's a bunch became available in Florida or Gorgia for maybe $25,000 each. The FAA immediately put limitations on them to make them mostly useless. Each flight must begin and end at the same airport and not for hire, etc. They didn't want to have them competing with US manufacturers. That is a 1,000 hp engine up front that will cost $400 to $500 an hour just for oil and gas. It only goes about 100 mph.
Only the Russian-built AN-2s are restricted to home base airports and a 250 mile radius. The Polish-built ones can be flown anywhere, but they are only allowed to be experimental and cannot be used for any commercial operation.

Actually, it based on a Curtiss-Wright R-1820.
