Band Maid are a generational band. Talent like this assembled in one unit does not come around very often. I just hope the rest of the world realises this while Bamd Maid is still an active band. They are very special 🤘
When I first started listening to them, I liked the sound and I thought they were really good. When they released "Unseen World," it blew my tiny little mind. When they released "About Us" it occurred to me, _they are a generational band._ Whether they ever reach the audience The Beatles did, I don't know. It seems unlikely. I was 8 when The Beatles played Ed Sullivan, and I resist comparisons ... but I think you are right. They have cleverness and sophistication, and have heart and soul at the same time. Many have one or the other. Very few have both. Band-Maid *"from now on!"*
Ok. Will do that song soon. I first heard of the comparison to the Beatles from a commenter and after thinking about it I decided she might be onto something. So, let's dive into that idea. You have some god comparisons here and reasoning as well! Thanks for the insight and for watching!
One of the best 2 fer 1 videos ever released. Not a smile on Miku's face for the whole thing. Shows how difficult it was with the backing vocals at a different cadence to her guitar rhythms. How many times do you see a bass lead solo, being played under a lead guitar solo, as we see in 'Manners'. So good. I think Misa owns both those songs. I still say that Kanami writes music on a Rubik's Cube, mixes it up and then they play the music as they solve the cube, right to the last note. So many sides to each song.
I remember when the beetles used to experiment with stereo and I love how band maid pans kanami right and Miku left since it's how you expect them to stand on stage and it's so good
With Blackhole Band-Maid threw a saddle on chaos and took it for a ride. Recommend, for MVs newer, Shambles, older, Yolo. Live newer, Puzzle, older, Play. Or of course just throw a dart at a Band-Maid song list and whatever you hit will be great.
I’ve heard a lot of great bands in my years and Band Maid is just SO special. There are certainly prog-rock/prog-metal groups out there who could play Black Hole instrumentally. There are also groups who could do the vocals on Black Hole some justice. I feel like there’s very few bands that fit both criteria. If any do, are they also playing something like Manners in the same concert? Highly doubtful.
Thanks, great commentary. Yeah, I agree, the musical diversity of Band-Maid is extraordinary. But somehow it's always unmistakably Band-Maid. The thing that reminds me of the Beatles is the consistently great hooks and melodic passages even when you're dealing with complex songs (or even chaotic songs as in Black Hole).
This kind of the book end pairing, smooth blues rock first, then pound the pedal to the metal with speed rock! Black Hole is organized chaos in it's best form! Also, Black Hole is Band-Maid's fastest song at 220bpm!
You pick up on a lot of great things about this band. Much appreciated. I'm sure Kanami has a lot of sleepless nights arranging these compositions. Can you let them tour the UK now please- Thank you.
There are many parallels between BAND-MAID and The Beatles and not just that they're both from island cultures. Their songs are all over the map. 'She's Leaving Home' is about as far from 'Helter Skelter' as you can get. The same with BAND-MAID. 'About Us' is as far from 'Shambles' as that is. Both bands have all kinds of songs over their respective bodies of work. And 'Manners' & 'Black Hole' is a great example of that as well. 'Black Hole is like their 'Revolution', or 'Revolution Number Nine'. They are fresh! Fresh yet familiar. We need more Bandmadia! And MISA & Akane are like Paul & Ringo. MISA doesn't just play root notes against the rhythm guitar. She plays lead bass, like Paul. And Akane is the modern Ringo. She has creative patterns & fills. And, like Ringo, she has only one drum solo, in 'Freedom' LIVE, just like Ringo in 'The End', where every member gets their time to shine.
As I understand it from Ohrenje's excellent documentary on Kanami, the original drum track for this song was so complicated that Akane submitted two alternatives. The one they chose was titled "hell". Akane is a BEAST on her kit. She does more with less kit than most other drummers.
Hello.....enjoy a reviewer that actually has knowledge of the band and even knows the names !!!!! This band got me excited about music again to the point I even flew to go see them live this year !!!!!! Check out their new release Shambles....Akane's drumming will blow your mind !!!!!..........And I have said the same thing about the Beatles comparison. Band maid will make you a better listener if you take the time to do it !!!!
The biggest comparison for me between BAND-MAID and the Beatles is how both bands are never afraid to do something different musically. I mean from "Love Me Do" to "Revolution" and "Helter Skelter".................I mean really? lol
This duo is one of THE recommendations I have when trying to get folks to listen to the MAIDS for the first time - they're a little different from the "sudio"ones.
And both songs from the same album, "Unseen World". And IMHO "Unseen World" is their best album yet. Like a fine red wine, Band -Maid get better with age.
WARNING! (maybe your next song?) It's bad MANNERS to stop listening to Band-Maid because you'll feel starved for musical excellence and joy and fall into a BLACK HOLE of emptiness... probably! 😵 Thx, Rock!

What a great description of the songwriting! Welcome!

Band-Maid is one of the few groups that could do a decent job of writing and performing a rock opera. I’m patiently waiting.
Ooooh! Cool thought!

Which begs the question - what other band could write both of these songs?
I love Band Maid it is my favorite band, I think Band Maid is the best band in the world right now!!!
Don't forget to tell me what you would like to hear! And thanks for the visit!

Well said! One always knew it was the Beatles no matter what they did with the song and the same is true of Bandmaid. Thanks!

You are hitting that proverbial nail on the head!
Thanks! Glad to have you!
If you can find it, check out Saiki's performance of "Choose Me" at the Yokohama Arena! Just Saiki and a piano, just brilliant!
I've heard of this! I'll look for it. Thanks!

Akane is the Buddy Rich of this generation. And Missa’s bass work is a religious experience. 5 brilliant women.
