I always have to watch Band-Maid videos 6 times. Once for the "Shock and Awe" and then once for each member. And then again to make sure I saw MISA do what i think she did.
    Ok, 7 times. 🤣

Misa's bass line and tone are chunky and heavy as hell. Akane's drums are in beast mode. Kanami's guitar work is so beautiful and somehow it sounded to me like she was playing classical music with a violin.

Music has been a big part of my life since I can remember. No other band has even come close to impressing me as much as this band has. They are just as good as the Beatles, LZ, the Who, or any other band you care to name. There is something very magical in their music!

Yes, I agree with your comparison of Band-Maid with the legendary Beatles. My mid-teen memories of the Beatles and the awesomeness of their musical compositions is comparable to what I feel now for Band-Maid and their musical works. Having followed Band-Maid for the last seven years, I have always been impressed with their amazing skill in consistently writing top tier songs and performing them flawlessly, much like the Beatles did with their top tunes. While the members of the Beatles, notably Lennon and McCarthy, collaborated on many of their songs, there developed internal conflicts and disagreements which eventually broke up the band. Band-Maid's song writing process is usually Kanami coming up with the new song's basic structure and riffs, with the other members developing their own ideas to add to the song. Their lyricist Miku comes up with the words and phrases of the song and finally the vocalist Saiki will make any changes necessary to allow her to best sing the song. It is a very cooperative enterprise with each Band-Maid member having an important role in the final song output. Band-Maid has been around for 10 years now, and the band members have worked cooperatively together as friends and elite artists to consistently produce the best rock music heard in a very long time.

After seeing the video for “Thrill,” then following up with “Choose Me,” I thought the Maids were interesting enough. Then I heard “From Now On.” It changed everything for me. I realized these musicians were special. Like, once in a generation special.

Most of us old farts that started listening to music in the 60's /70's were exposed to more than just rock. I personally came to enjoy good music, period, regardless of "style". I don't think that is the case anymore, at least in the US. The heavily produced and synthesized pop is what they think music should be. People who should know better tend to underestimate Band Maid's music. Many think it is simple old style rock. I prefer to think of their music as rock that continued to grow and developed instead of being stagnant. Kanami, seems to have had a classical music background. Didn't many of the big names back in the 60's/70's rock revolution also have a classical background?

I believe you are correct. Many of us started listening in the early 60's to mid 70's to Folk, Motown, The West Coast sound, Blues, Country, etc. One could be a Rock guitarist in the 70's and be just as likely to be influenced by Roy Clark or Chet Atkins as you could B.B.King or Jose Feliciano. Just going by memory, I believe Alex Lifeson, Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Jimmy Page and Eric Carmen all had at least some form of Classical training. But I can't remember how many musicians I heard "Had gone to the Julliard School of Music". Good catch!

Firstly, at our age every hearing is like a new hearing😆
Secondly, I agree with your comparison of BM with the Beatles.
    Beatles, BM: creative drummer
    Beatles, BM: phenomenal bassist
    Beatles, BM: prolific songwriting team
Beatles, BM: on and offstage charisma
Beatles, BM: the music is technically sound but also upbeat and catchy
    The differences
BM blends genres, Beatles pioneered them
BM has a top notch guitarist
Beatles were hyped by Geffen, BM by a 800 year old pigeon

Can't really prove you wrong. There's so much variation and evolution to their style over the years, and yet the songwriting is amazingly and consistently top-tier. It's great melodic hard rock with layers and details that make their songs perfect for multiple listens. Much like George Martin, Kanami has the deep classical background, and you hear it come out in all kinds of ways from the compositional techniques to backing tracks (e.g. like the one in From Now On).

Yes, their profile should be much higher than it is, especially considering they've been at it for ten years.
I was happy when they played some of the industry towns like Austin and Nashville last May. Now they've played New York a couple of times, and Los Angeles a few time, and Chicago last August. Maybe they are making some inroads. I feel like _anyone_ with would love them if they only listen. To cop a maxim from Decartes: Audio, ergo amo. (I hear, therefore I love)

I grew up with the Beatles--they were the benchmark for everyone then and now. In my own writing I have been comparing Band-Maid to the Beatles for some time. It is a completely fair comparison. The Beatles released some 230 songs, covering enormous range and essentially inventing whole sub-genres of pop and rock. Band-maid have released some 170 songs, of enormous variety and without a single dud. No other band since the Beatles has a track record like that. As much as I love the classic bands like Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Metallica, to name a few, none of them explored as wide a range of styles, as competently, until Band-Maid. They are indeed a band for the ages, and the Western music press are completely missing the boat.

i disagree the beatles were the benchmark, musically they weren't even in the same league as this band or most top shop rock bands. lyrically its a different story, lyrically few beat the beatles

@@greygreen5610 Oh, we don't really disagree, in the sense that musicians today are much more technically adept than anyone of the Beatles era. But for their time, they were cutting edge. It's a bit like comparing today's athletes to Olympic champions from 1960--today those champions wouldn't even make the team.

@@hiawatha.g i was a child in the beatles hay day so i missed the hysteria. it was often said back then it was the beatles or the rolling stones, for me it was led zeppelin , deep purple, judas priest, black sabbath and the other british metal bands that followed and they influenced the likes of iron maiden etc . most of those bands had one lead guitarist until iron maiden came along with two ( they now have three) i have to be honest and say i'm struggling to see a beatles connection with this band though, but do see an iron maiden connection musically. another japanese all girl band lovebites even more so, they are a bit heavier, as good as any metal band i've ever seen, even the greats.

Kanami certainly let 'Mincho' out on this one. She plays the vocals for the verses, the choruses, the backing vocals. As well as the bridges, transitions, and the solos. Sensational.
The thing I also love about this video is Misa. Dressed in black, beside her black stack, beautiful black hair, playing her Black Smoker bass, and standing in the black shadows.
I'll say it, "Drop Dead Sexy". If you want a really great instrumental of theirs, and you remember that Medieval ditty 'Greensleeves', try 'Memories Of Wind And Wine'. It's short, but unforgettable.

I agree with you comparing them to The Beatles; I've felt the same way. Meet The Beatles was my first album purchase when I was 12 years old in 1964,so I have an early history with them. Of course,it's apples to oranges when comparing these bands. They each have that which distinguishes them from one another. The Beatles will always be number one,but Band Maid is not far behind and still developing.
Manners remains my favorite Band Maid song. It's like listening to a symphony with distinctive movements--riffs. It's a work of pure genius,in my opinion, although,I wouldn't be the first to admit that music appreciation is subjective.

I credit Kanami for that. However much involvement the other members have in the composing process, it starts and ends with Kanami. Her music feels like what a classical composer would produce in the rock idiom. BTW, have you heard any of Alexej Bagrintsev's solo cello covers of Band Maid? Shows how classically lyrical Kanami's music is.

You should always play the OMV or Official LIVEs. The sound on the FanCam stuff is always garbage. I don't think BAND-MAID need a whole lot of video production like 'Shambles'. Just put them on a stage or in a studio and let them do their thing. They're interesting enough on their own just playing. But yes, more BAND-MAID. They should be the new Beatles. But people have a hard time getting passed the gimmick. People thought The Beatles were just a gimmick for a couple of years. But I saw Paul McCartney several years ago, and the only band that could touch him was BAND-MAID. They've both done sets with over 30 songs. Show me anyone else who does that! When they played Lollapalooza I felt it wasn't big enough for them.
