The first song that was an 100% original composition by Kanami. Before this, they had all their songs written for them. Ever since then, Kanami (lead guitar) composes the music, Miku (the unfeasibly gorgeous rhythm guitarist), writes the lyrics and the other band members decide on how they will play their pieces. Usually, anyway, that's their process but it has changed a bit the last couple of years, though generally it's Kanami and Miku who create the bulk of their songs. PS You mentioned that you're finding you are reacting at least once a week to a new Band-Maid song so, as they have well over a hundred, you will be alright for a while. Then again, a new album is coming next year so maybe up the number to 2 or 3 a week so you don't fall behind. And coz we'd love that, of course!
Once they were left "Alone" by their record / management companies to create what they wanted, well... look what they did. Alone's somewhat sad, heavy yet empowering story (topics Miku's known for writing about), up against Kanami's up-tempo, complex yet rockin' music is quintessential Band-Maid. BAND-MAID is an important influence and contributor to the music industry with a continuous, growing worldwide fanbase. But to me, they are just the best sounding, best writers of hard rock music, and the most fun, joyous group of musicians to come along since the Beatles! Thx, Joely!
This song is very important in the band's history. It was the first song totally written and arranged by the band themselves allowed to be included on an album release. Previously, the label provided song written by label writers.
‘Alone’ and ‘Yolo’ are the first songs written exclusively by BAND-MAID to be released. Up to this point in their careers BM’s songs were not allowed to be released per management. Saiki encouraged Kanami to keep writing songs. Persistence+experience+talent=BAND-MAID.
There's something to be said for the intimate atmosphere of a venue that holds 700 people, but I think you're right, and the opportunity for an AHH - KAH - NEH! head-turning shout out will sadly diminish. :(
Here are some "favorite song" tropes: 1. your favorite is the one last one you listened to _or_ 1a. the next one you will listen to 2. you'll have thirty songs in your top ten list 3. they have over 100 hit songs (actually pushing 150); 3a. they are all bangers, no lamers, 3b. there are _no_ bad songs 4a. their best songs are the ones without videos, _or_ 4b. the B sides of singles, _or_ 4c. random bonus tracks Like dating an archeological dig, we know this is an early song by 1). Kanami playing her Stratocaster-shaped single coil AddicTone 2). Miku playing her red and white Rickenbacker 625 3). MISA playing her 4-string Fender Precision Bass with block inays (and the Jimi Hendrix) sticker.
This is the real beginning of BAND-MAID. The first song they got approved from the record company. All other songs got disapproved (yeah, the company were idiots)...but some of them got a new light later in their career
Next to 'Thrill' perhaps the most important song in Band-Maid's catalog. It is the first song written by Kanami that was accepted for release by their management after countless attempts before. And after that, with only a few exceptions that can be counted easily on one hand, they have created all the songs themselves. Fighting for what you believe in without ever giving up is an integral part of this band and its members, which is also reflected here and there in their lyrics. The MV is also fitting for the title and its history. An empty studio in which they play ALONE without anyone telling them what to do. And in the first few frames of this video, which are easy to miss, you can see Saiki throwing her microphone stand away with full force, which she never used again since then. Their music and videos tell stories that seem insignificant at first glance, but in some cases have a very deep meaning. A cool video for someone watching it without any background knowledge, but a treasure for those who know this band better. 🔥🤘🏻 _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' 🎶🕊
I will say that Platinum Passport seemed to give them support longer (at least after "Thrill" going viral) and a free hand earlier than a lot of major labels did for Western bands over the last few decades that didn't become overnight sensations. The relationship between B-M and PP actually fits the much-talked-about- but- usually- more- of- a- cruel joke "artist development" role of management better than most. Of course we can't decide that until we find out who actually has the publishing rights, etc.
Miku doesn't get the all the credit she deserves. She is the glue that holds the band together. She came up with the idea of the band and them formed the band. But Miku is also a big part of why Band Maids current music works so well. This video of alone proves my point. Miku could not play the guitar she was holding here. Now Alone is a fantastic song like all of the Band Maid songs in that era. But notice that Misa and Akani's parts are more traditional in their function to the song than ib recent songs. They stayed more in the pocket to hold down the root of the song. After Miku learned rhythm guitar. They had more freedom to move away from that role. And be able to support and accent other players in the band. To do Band Maid things. Miku playing the root rhythms makes that possible. So when we talk about all the talant the members have. lets all give Miku more credit for their sound.
Pure Kanami composition. The track YOLO, Kanami had already come up with the main riff before she joined Band Maid. Yolo was released as a single with the 'B' sides Matchless Gum and Unfair Game. Probably the greatest single in regards to those 3 tracks they have produced imo.
After over three hours concert at Yokohama arena to finish their ten year tour. They are doing another concert with all different songs from their library. A truly memorable celebration concert from a truly great yet underrated band. But then it just Band Maid doing Band Maid things.
Band-Maid is consistently amazing. In their early years it was a struggle for Band-Maid to get their record label to allow them to record their own music. In retrospect this seems insane seeing what they have accomplished in the years since they recorded "Alone". They've produced (And Band-Maid has been self produced for many years) a prodigious volume of songs to an indescribably high standard that is incomprehensible to those who've not experienced Band-Maid. They simply are beyond awesome.
They have so many good songs. They played 33 of them at their 10th year anniversary tour finale at Yokahama arena. I loved every minute of it on the live stream and realized at the end that they never even played a bunch of my top favorite songs.
lots of great stuff here - misa's insane bass fills , my favorite my favorite kanami solo and akane goes completely off the rails here - in a good way and when she switches to that thrash beat near the end - just kills it
Adding to the rest of the story, in an interview, Kanami said that before “Alone” got the okay, she had loads of songs turned down. Then she quietly mentioned, “They’re gone.” And I understood that to mean that all her previous compositions, all those denials, became the property of the record label. I sure would like to know more about that.
Also one of the few songs they play at pretty much every live show, which I think shows how important it is to the band. YOLO is definitely worth a look too (like every one of their songs).
You can tell this is an older track because Miku is still playing the Rickenbacker, MISA is on her old 4 String Jazz bass and Kanami hasn't switched to PRS yet. But you might check out Orenji's BAND-MAID Documentary videos. They have one for each member except Miku. She has three. As for a LIVE concert there can be only one! Zepp Tokyo LIVE. It has so many moments that were pulled off of RUclips ahead of a DVD release that I love to revisit, especially 'Don't You Tell Me' LIVE with the famous Call & Response "Battle" between Kanami & MISA!
As a drummer, 2 videos you must watch if you haven't done so already: Official live "Freedom" to catch her drum solo, and "From Now On" which might be that band's finest composition.
@@joelyjamz You reacted to both today! Right on! In the Lollapalooza show, that wicked instrumental that Band-Maid opened with was "From Now On". See? I knew you'd dig that one. Great catch on Akane dropping a stick. I never noticed that before. At 41 minutes into the set, that little jam session that you called the "greatest thing ever". A few nights later, they did that again indoors with much better acoustics which I have uploaded as my featured video. Check it out.
You're in the pigeonhole, po! Founding member Kobata Miku's name means small pigeon, so whenever she speaks she adds a po at the end. Maybe it's time to check out Ohrenje's excellent documentary on the band on his YT channel. They're broken up into parts around 20 minutes each. Truly a labor of love. Its well researched with all kinds of clips and photos with professional voiceover. It even includes interviews of fellow RUclipsrs! This is such a great song and the first to be written by them! I think you should check out Choose Me next, if you havent yet. For their final show of the 10 Anniversary Tour, they allowed the audience to film this song (no filming at concerts in Japan), so you'll be seeing a lot of fancams of it show up in your feed. Its a good one!
Another BM song that is criminally overlooked, but has many of those little things they add, "little sprinkles" I believe is what you called them, is "YOLO". There's an official music video on their YT page I highly recommend. It's still my favorite of theirs.
Saiki constantly encouraged Kanami to keep writing music even though in the early days the bands music was written for them. This was one of the first tracks written and composed by the band.
One of my favourite parts of the song is right at the beginning when Saiki viciously throws the Mic stand away ( blink and you'll miss it) A statement on Saiki's part I feel.
It's mid-00's pop-rock on steroids. It's everything great about the catchy hooks and riffs of the era but then multiplied by an excess display of talent and expert nuance in composition that wasn't common in the genre. Like you said with the drums, it's not what you expect from something so outwardly catchy. And then that guitar solo in a genre and era starved of them... It's simple enough to follow the broad scope of the melody but has a depth and brilliance that is there for those looking for more. It is the perfect example of "Simply Brilliant." 😊

The original post had over 100000 views before being deleted. It's for personal viewing. I doubt you would want to give a reaction, given that the video and audio quality isn't very good. It's a fun video though, showing a side viewpoint of Akani going "Keith Moon" on the drums playing Alone. I think this concert is also the last time Kanami plays in high heels (several near wipeouts during the concert). Another thing to note is Akani had to stop whipping her head so much while playing. She was starting to have neck issues.
Oh my God, she still has that Rickenbacker. Lol....Well, it WAS early days..... Our little pigeon has long since learned that you don't buy a guitar simply because it matches your dress....
@joelyjamz not joking. I think she did. She had no idea how to play guitar, showed up to her first lesson with Kanami with a stinking Rickenbacker. Lol.. She a pretty good rhythm guitarist now.
