    I can't even tell you how MUCH I learnt from watching the Harry Potter films. I once bingewatched them all (not in a day, of course not) but pausing at every word, phrase or idiom that I wasn't 100% sure of what they meant or how to use them myself, and then write it down.
    To this day when I teach something I learnt from doing that, I remember the exact film (sometimes even the scene) in which I learnt that piece of vocabulary.

  • @Keyboardje
    @Keyboardje 5 лет назад +13

    To me it sounds as if Harry's accent changes in the later movies. It sounds breathier, less well pronounciated. Or is it just Daniel Radcliffe's way of speaking that comes through more in time which makes it sound so different?

    • @pcrassen4975
      @pcrassen4975 5 лет назад +9

      Could also be from, well... getting older generally. In the first two films he's little, and I'd say very young kids tend to speak more polite and well pronounced, and that fades gradually over our teens. Like adult Harry probably would've used a much shorter sentence with the guy at the train station than 11 year old Harry. But I really do suppose that that's really the dialogue writing and now I realize that's not what you meant at all lol.
      As for Harry/Dan's pronounciation, it's probably still comes from the same reason. He is getting older, he gets more well versed in using slang, which whether he is using terms from it or not, are affecting the way he speaks. In a way making his pronounciation more "lazy" than as a kid. Which is just natural I suppose. He can/could revert back to it even subconsciously when speaking to a person of authority, but that's his normal speech now. Think everyday english vs formal english. Even in british and american english, your normal day to day talk is not quite like formal speech. Formal speech is more like young Harry's request at the train station. Longer sentences and more clearly pronounced, to ensure the person you're speaking to understands you, as well as to sound more polite and respectful. Meanwhile day to day speech is well. We know how that is lol.
      Least this is my take on it.

    Yes, please do another Harry Potter film! I adore Harry Potter and this video has given me a completely new understanding of this beloved film. Thank you! 👏👏One small thing, though: to be fair, I think sneaked is probably the safer past tense of sneak. Sneaked would technically be the last tense when sneak is used as a regular verb, whereas snuck is an irregular verb useage. Also snuck is far more colloquial and less formal. When in doubt, it's a good bet to use sneaked (even if it sounds funny!😅). And it's especially important to use sneaked in an academic paper. Anyway, wonderful video. Not throwing shade. Just sharing a little info.
