I'm currently in the same position on a 58.... Less workspace, more rust, and younger progeny. Thanx for posting this and helping with a few little things that can become overwhelming when working on a tight "man time" sced... I say this... And may not (years from now) mean it... I can't wait till me sons are around the age of urs... Currently they are 22 and 7 months... To disassembly this machine safely with them in the shop was a nightmare... But... Here's to fatherhood!:)
Well never wish time away but its great when they can start helping and learning stuff. My son is 16 now (was 13 in this video) and he knows his way around the shop as well as anyone.
First thing I thought was how cool to be doing a project like this w/ your son. My boy's almost 2. Guess my J-Head will have to stay all scuzzy until he's a bit older...
loved it. reminds me of my first tear down. I can feel the pain. however putting it back together takes a bit more finesse. I wish I was there it could have been alot more painless.
There were a few more parts to remove - the other half of the feed transmission and the feed worm shaft. Many have issues with broken or damaged reverse clutch rods and have to pull these parts to make it right (mine hardly moves).
awesome! How can I remove the last part? I am trying to use the autofeed but the trip pin isn't locking in place. I think the spring kisses goodbye? ! cheers
is there any way you can tell me how to get that weird pin out at 3.28 iv rebuilt one before and had that out, but it is not coming out on this one :'( trying to put my new smart screw on
+Ed Ginsberg It looks like "A guide to renovating the Bridgeport 2J variable speed milling machine" by Illion industrial services, llc. I have the same manual for my 2J and need to get in to replace a pin on the reverser shaft for the quill feed. I got my book off of ebay for about $45 last year.
Copyrights technically do to expire, but as Di$ney keeps getting the time limit extended every time The Mouse comes up to the limit. So currently and for the foreseeable future everything past about 1930 will never expire. (they can be given up though). Its more likely the H&W is the actual price tan the Ebay was just a rip off.

Good job done, can you share the sizes of the quill and spindle, it will help others. Thanks

Thread a screw in it and pull it out. It helps to wiggle the quill stop up and down.
MaDuceRules would you happen to remember screw size so I can grab on my way into work? I appreciate it very much though!
I believe it is a 4-40 screw. That's what worked on mine.
what manual are you using I need to do the same to my J head thanks ED

Ouch! H&W sells copies for bout 20 bucks. I'm guessing the copyright is expired...
