We knew it as CANADIAN ENGINE during childhood
The WP 7161 was a majestic and powerful engine. Its presence itself was awe inspiring. It had awesome power and it used to haul all the prestigious trains like Grand Trunk express, Southern Express, Frontier Mail to name a few. All express trains were hauled by WP 7161. Even today I feel very nostalgic remembering the glorious train journeys of my childhood

Really we missed steam locomotive. After electrification we also loss semaphore signals

20 years ago in Eritrea, a steam engine was in operation almost for 50km. It' was only for tourism purpose. The interesting thing is that the engine driver was 98 years old and the co- pilot was 96.

Designed for low quality ash coal. Used to do 110 in flat or slopy tracks. The WP had only 3 types of whistles. We as kids used to make it out, it's WP. It came up to hauling 10 carriages, until the diesels Alco WDS and WDMs took over

I remember travelling on the WP steam locomotive "Veer Bundela" from Mathura to Agra at night, in the early 1960s. It was a ride that I will never forget. This locomotive was housed at Jhansi Loco shed. My uncle was allocated 7059, built by Florisdorf, Austria and also a Jhansi engine. At present, to my knowledge, only one WP locomotive is plinthed at Senior Institute Jhansi. It is a latecomer, 7656 built in India.

Why don't India Runs at least one Steam locomotive train in one single route of 30-40 kms , 2 times a day. This will attract tourism and we could save the heriatge. The train must run at atleast 60 kmph. Special fare of Rs. 100 for that distance could be collected which will encourage all types of people local as well as foriegn.
One train ran previously with the same loco between Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar. It stops due to some technical problem with Akbar Loco. Now again this runs started very soon. with ticket price of 10 Rs. only.
@@indianrailways53 Railways must charge more on such trains so as to maintain better cleanliness and facilities. It should be least used for conveyance but should be used to promote tourism & knowledge to the future generations.

It's a test run that is performs every month or maybe more in a month
And also another steam engine fairy queen is also placed in rewari locoshed museum

WP engines were capable of running at 100 kmph..very sad to see the WP engine hauling just 3 bogies at such a slow speed.
