I am from Ferozepur . I have been working for Indian Railway since 1992 and I am a steam enthusiast . Thnaks for sharing these rare videos which transported me back to my earlier days .
This is gold! thanks for sharing the compilation. in 94, only the mainline had electrification and while travelling, there used to be technical halts to change locos from electric to diesel. Stream locos were also plenty, but were at the fag end of their service in the 90s
I was born in 2005, and i showed this video to my mother and believe me, she was overwhelmingly pleased. Thanks a ton and wish you visit us again, Regards. 😊

Thanks. You took me 30 yrs back. I was in my graduate yrs , last travelled in steam locomotive at jabalpore India in 1994. I remember how beautiful it was , since then its very sweet memory.
Just nothing can replace the sight, the sheer beauty of a steam engine in action! I have been one of the those lucky folks who personally had the privilege to travel in these trains runned by steam engines. Yes, the early 90's were the last years before steam engines got finally phased out and were replaced by diesel engines especially for metre gauge tracks. Thirty years is such a long time and things have changed like crazy in all this time... It's like the era of 90's was a different world altogether. Those were simple times. We used to enjoy and value small, small things in life... Which made our life meaningful. Today's kids can never understand that! Just a sight of a steam engine on a chilly winter morning brought goosebumps to people like me. I still can feel that emotion after watching this video... Where have we come in all these years?! 😭
Those where the last days of steam locomotives...Really enjoyed these black beasts & their chugging passing thru my dad's railway quarter.....thanks for taking back to those childhood memories....!
Great stream loco video taken in India just before steam traction was withdrawn. In fact, less than a couple of years after this video, steam became a rarity, if not relic. How completely things changed in barely months after this video. Kids born after 1995 will scarcely believe this, except for the video which plays into the theme of backward India, snake charmers, steam, coal, crowded roads with honking cars etc. Simple lives, innocent times and mesmerizing steam, all like a haze gone, as if modern times were better times but only more pretentious.
It's amazing to see that there were steam traction in North India in 1990s. In my childhood during 1980s Alcos ruled the tracks of Kerala. Now all of them were replaced by WAPs and WAGs.

Wow! I had no idea steam locos were in service in 1990s. CR & WR, at least in Mumbai, had long transitioned to electric locos by then, and the British built WCM 1's hauling Mumbai-Pune trains were themselves considered relics. Thanks for uploading!
Nostalgia! I last travelled in a steam driven passenger train from Ludhiana to Jalandhar in 1989 or 1990. Seemed to take ages as she halted at every little station. From Jalandhar just barely managed to catch a ramshackle Punjab Roadways to Pathankot. (I shouldn't complain about the bus being ramshackle, though. It was late because of its sad mechanical state and thus I could catch it). In those days buses in Punjab weren't allowed to run after dark due to security reasons.
All regular broad-gauge steam service in India ended in 1995, with the final run made from Jalandhar to Ferozpur on 6 December. The last meter-gauge and narrow-gauge steam locomotives in regular service were retired in 2000.
I enjoyed a lot....it took me to those days when I was just 10 yrs old and used to travel from Varanasi to Calcutta (now Kolkata) and remember those days Punjab mail (13006) coming to platform no. 5 hauled by a steam loco till Mughalsarai. Last it was 1982 and 1984. I saw steam locos till 1994 in West Bengal and right in Calcutta, but thereafter, abruptly these were withdrawn by Indian Railways and Diesel locos started rolling on tracks.
Yes, I remember Punjab Mail used to come on Platform 5 only of Mughalsarai station. When my train used to arrive at MGS station from Faizabad, I used to be mesmerized seeing the MGS station and its famous yard because that used to be the only station on my journey that had electrification even at that time. I'm talking about the 90s here, so Yes, I have had the opportunity of sitting in those red train coaches hauled by a steam engine loco.... Such simpler times and bygone days 😭
I was born in '94. Its mind boggling how far we have come (and how much it remains the same). Looks depressing yet beautiful, you can somehow feel things changing after liberalization. My home state was neglected altogether for many years until recent years, when development took place.

Watching this video took me back to my school days, when, I would take a short cut passing through the Central Railway steam engine workshop at Mazagon adjacent to Hancock Bridge, as I lived bang opposite the railway lines and usec to spend a lot of time admiring those workmen overhauling the steam engines, at time in the 70's, security was lax and people would tresspass through the main gate and either go through the then semi forest type path to cross over to a Tadwadi BIT Blocks, where my Parochial School St. Anne's & St. Mary's was located. And, I loved walking on those tracks in the Marshalling Yard on my way and back from School. I recollect travelling by train hauled by Steam Engines to Delhi ( 1976 ) and to Madras from Bombay by Jayanthi Janatha Express ( 1979 ) in those marooned colored coaches in 2nd sleeper ordinary type bunk ( no cushion then ) Thanks, your clip took me back in time.
Mesmerizing video..........😢 it reminds me of my childhood and college days too. We are very lucky to have seen and experienced Steam era which is mow in videos only.
Honestly shocking that a vast network which relied on steam just 2 decades ago is now %90+ electric and diesel used only in remote areas and steam for tourism purposes
Nice to watch the steam locos in real action....especially WPs hauling 12 coaches at full speed...We miss these beasts..In few years we will be missing the diesels also...especially the Alcos..

I recollect travelling by train hauled by Steam Engines to Delhi ( 1976 ) and to Madras from Bombay by Jayanthi Janatha Express ( 1979 ) in those marooned colored coaches in 2nd sleeper ordinary type bunk ( no cushion then ) Thanks, your clip took me back in time.
glad it brought back good memories
We are Railway folks from Bhusawal. Steam, Diesel and finally electric engines were worked on by my husband. What a great time that was.
Great 👍

I thought much of the Pullers were already replaced with Diesel Engines.......Amazed at Steam Pullers still plying in this part. Thanks for sharing.
almost the end
Honestly shocking that a vast network which relied on steam just 2 decades ago is now %90+ electric and diesel used only in remote areas and steam for tourism purposes
Just amazing, I could go back to my childhood in my place of birth - Saharanpur.
