Having no doubt Kirk is tired of a handful of songs undoubtedly, 'cough sandman cough' . He said he tries to do more improv in his solos to keep them from going stale to him. Kirk just being a gentleman in this interview.
Theres an interview in 1992 with Jason and Kirk said he's sick of playing enter sandman way back then, by now he's just dead inside
We're all sick of hearing sandman.
Wish they'd do a "Deep Cuts" tour where they only played underplayed songs... I want to hear Prince Charming live at least once in my life 🙏
If would be great for the die hard fans. The casuals, not so much
They did in 2015
Don’t forget Ronnie. I love that song!
Highly doubt this would generate enough interest for a tour. Maybe some one off shows in the Bay area but forget about arena/stadium which is what they usually play
Prince Charming live would be great, wasting my hate would be great also, great taste man
"No one's ever said that..."
Actually, James has said that before about Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets... but he's also clarified after that once the crowd gets into it, it "re-fuels" his energy.
Being paid enough money to buy eight Ferrari's would refuel anybody's energy!
@@guitarslim56 i don't think they do it for the money at this point
Lars said it about the AJFA track
@@guitarslim56 yeah, just look at Kiss, GnR, Motley Crue….oh wait
If they advertised a concert full of mostly rarer songs I'm sure it would still sell out, it's just about making people aware before they buy a ticket. They could even do a small tour of just rare songs.
Metallica is a money machine they’d never agree to that
@@jd0879 Bruh, read the comment and think. Of course it's gonna sell out. No doubt in my mind. Besides that, they've already done something similar with the Metallica by request tour. Of course most people pick the popular songs anyway so that didn't help die hard fans😅
Yeah, that would be cool. Or they could take the Maiden approach and say they are player NO old stuff for a tour lol.
But seriously, It would be cool if maybe for each leg of the tour 1/3 of the songs were lesser played songs. i don't means songs nobody likes(Escape lol) I mean the Leper Messiah and Dyer's Eve and My Friend of Misery etc.
@@jd0879 People would want a show with rarer songs MORE than a show with Sandman and Fuel. Im 100% sure of that.
@@jd0879 All you generic derpy people forget that rare does NOT mean bad/mediocre.
Just play the shit from the first 4 albums that they don't normally play. That's all.
Stop adding innuendos that dont exist. you're manufacturing problems, in your own mind, just to creative a narrative for your shitty argument.
Its no argument. You just misunderstood.
Awesome! Leper Messiah is one of my all time favorite songs! So cool hearing it's one of Kirk's. 🤘
Dave wrote it
@@puffybuns2311 what does that have to do with anything?
@@SonicSweden1 Nothing
He mentioned "Leper Messiah" as his favorite. I've always said that that song is so under-rated its not even funny.
That song is in their top 5 for me
First time I saw them in 06 they played FFWF and Disposable Hero’s. It’s all I could ever ask for.
Lucky!
I got pretty lucky when i saw them. They played No Leaf Clover, Shortest Straw, Killing Time, Motorbreath, Damage Inc
Wow, very cool.
I saw No Remorse, Blackened and Harvester. To me that was pretty wild already.
I saw them in 2013 and got to hear Harvester of Sorrow, Hit the Lights, Holier than Thou, Sanitarium. Songs that I know they play less than their big ones. It was a pleasure.
Such a great band. Great bunch of Guys. Its amazing. Almost 60 and still able to turn a festival like pink pop on its head. They where bad ass. Just like the old days
I went to pinkpop! Sick gig bro 🤟
I was at pinkpop too! Metallica were sick, still rockin!
I've heard/read somewhere that Kirk is actually kinda tired of playing "Seek and Destroy."
Fuck me: we’re tired of hearing it too lol
I am really tired of hearing seeka dn destroy and for whom the bells toll. Kinda wish they'd play more rare stuff like Dyers Eve, Some St. Anger stuff, and some And Justice for all stuff.
@@Jinnoth trapped under ice
@Adrain Serrano *definitely* St. Anger 😂
It's a rubbish song anyway. Never liked it.
Dude, Leper Messiah is an absolute classic and I don't know why people don't go nuts over it they same way they do with some of the other Puppets songs. Similar story with Trapped under Ice or Escape from RTL.
I F’ing love when they play Leper or Trapped. Trapped is one of my absolute favorites off of Ride.
its because only a handful of people find those songs enjoyable, I absolutely LOVE RTL and have bought the album cover as a big flag on my wall, but i just cant listen to trapped or escape, i just dont like them.
@@xd1712 a handful? Bro rtl is universal acclaimed as a classic, they cab play any song
@@recipoldinasty yea I think more than a handful like those songs lol. Every song is good from the first 5 records imo. However on black there is stuff I'm sick if like sad and enter but they WERE great before they got played out.
It's so strange to me that the band apparently hates Escape. It's a fucking sick song!
I love what I do for a living but I get sick of doing some things day after day too. I’m sure anyone who’s been in the same line of work for a long period of time can relate.
Outlaw Torn needs to be played way more
That one is a bonafide masterpiece.
I would love to see them live and have them not play Enter Sandman.
So would we all.
Metallica needs to do another By Request tour!
Guess what we'll get, then...
Creeping death, FWTBT, one, enter sandman, nothing else matters, fade to black, seek and destroy...
@@gabm999 FUCKIN EXACTLY. Only Lima and Helsinki did their jobs correctly. The setlist from Lima was fucking INSANE, and Helsinki got them to finally play Frayed Ends of Sanity, but I think most of the fans completely missed the point of voting what songs they want to hear, and not songs they already play live.
@@lordpickl9749 They did play Dyers Eve once or twice live. Here's their performance from 2009
ruclips.net/video/Wi047wK5Ndg/видео.html
I wish leper Messiah was in the Setlist every night🤘🤘
I couldn't play you're music a million times and never be sick of hearing it.
They should play Leper Messiah , Disposable Heros, and Motor Breath more often.
And Dyers Eve
They should also play Orion more often as well and to live is to die
I've been to Firenze Rocks 3 days ago to watch their show... I wanted them to play their lesser known songs, like some stuff from Load/Reload, or Dyers Eve, Eye of the Beholder, and stuff like that. They played the usual shit... master, sandman, nothing, fade. But at least they played Dirty Window and No Leaf Clover. Still, an absolute banger. I had so much fun
Dyers Eve only gets played once a year, Eye of the Beholder will never be played because Lars said he hates the song.
Leper Messier one the best. Would love to hear Frayed Ends of Sanity more
There is an interview with Jason where he states he was tired of playing sandman.
Especially on bass there’s not much to it and a LOT of droning
FUCK YEAH KIRK!!! PURE LEGEND!!🎼🎸🥁🤘🍻😎🎶
I think every band should have a day where they play a setlist of songs that THEY want to play, and do it at a small venue. Make the tickets reasonable, no special effects or lights, and just jam. Call them "selfish shows".
I like it
I'd pay that (for a reasonable price)
I played in a popular cover band for several years, i was sick and tired of playing Enter Sandman too.
Enter sandman, one, sad but true, need to be taken off the list for a long time. So many other great songs to choose from
In the early 90's It was Master lol, then in 94' It was Sandman, Seek and Destroy, Creeping Death are suspects as well nowdays.
But hey, what can you do? Kirk is right about people wanting to hear some songs, they tour places they probably not gonna tour in a decade. When i got to see them in 2016 i was expecting all my favorite songs cause i knew i won't be able to see'em in a decade
They should do what Dream Theater does. They make sure to not duplicate their set lists and are prepared to be able to play every song they have in their catalogue on any given night.
Unfortunately, DT are not doing this anymore. They play the same set every night nowadays.
@@AdamMGuitar I wasn’t aware. It could be they stopped this when Portnoy left the group. He was keeping track of it.
@@louisd95714 Yeah, exactly. It was pretty much a Portnoy thing.
@@AdamMGuitar yeah Portnoy is just as organized as Lars is.
Hey... this was neat!
That's why some bands stopped to play some of their very popular songs live altogether. For instance the rolling stones
I know they hate the song but they need to play Escape
I'd take hearing Leper over Sandman any day of the week.
Leper Messiah? Nah go ahead Kirk you can play that every night lmaoo
One of the greatest bands of all time.
I wish they played more from load and reload. Especially wasting hate 2x4, devil's dance etc.
I love Metallica but also jam bands too. The great thing about the Dead and Phish are that they have a new set list every night. I saw the Allman Brothers once and it was the same 10 songs they played every night for 30 years. Felt no need to see them twice. Same with Jimmy Buffett.
Jimmy Buffett.....Metallica?
I got sick of hearing Margaritaville after the 3rd time, let alone have to PLAY or Sing it for over 40 years. Good God Man.
Warren Haynes and Govt Mule, Blackberry Smoke are great at changing up the set list, if you love Jam Bands with a Southern Rock kick.
Jason and James have both said they were sick of Enter Sandman
I'm so happy one of my favorite songs is the same as Kirk's, he has pretty good taste imo 🤭
Do a club tour with songs you don't usually play.
What I don't get is why they don't just as a matter of principle pick 1 song out of 20 in a setlist to play just for the hell of it, and for posterity. Ronnie, 2x4, Escape, Eye of the Beholder, God That Failed, The House That Jack Built, Poor Twisted Me, Cure, Ain't My Btch, Where The Wilds Things Are, Slither, -Human... There are quite many of them. Are they amazing? Not all of them. But would it be amazing to have at least 1 live performance filmed for us to look at? Hell yes. They do hundreds of shows every year and they have been doing it for thirty years. Even if they just inserted one odd ball every dozen shows, they'd still have played them all within a year, no doubt. Now, please, we are all sick of Nothing Else Matters, Sad But True and For Whom the Bell Tolls (which I've never seen the greatness in, btw). Just do it.
Forty years. Not thirty years.
atleast they play more rare stuff than iron maiden
I've only seen Metallica twice in my life(they don't come around to where I live very often). The first time I saw themwas in 2009(in Sacramento California). I went to go get a beer and missed out on hearing my favorite song. Master of puppets. I was so pissed at myself for missing it over a fucking beer that I didn't end up getting because the line was so long and they eventually ran out of beer. I go back to the floor, and wait to see if they would play my 2nd favorite song 'blackened'. But they never played it.
Then I saw them 4 years ago in Sacramento again. This time I finally heard them play Master of puppets. However no blackened. :😥😥
They need a tour with a setlist from the first 4 albums only.
They had that back in 1988 / 1989, aswell as a handful of shows in 1990. It was known as the justice tour. ⚖
@@russkate88 there were only 4 albums buddy
@@Nichwar19 I think that’s his point buddy.
At this point fans would riot if Enter Sandman isn't the closing song since it works so well there but I'm sure everything else is fair game drive that have a deep pool of songs to pick from
My Friend of Misery is the one song I look for in any of the vids they put out from their shows. I'm sure if Rob didn't love the song it would never be played.
Love Leper messiah!!! Cheers Kirk🍺🍺🍺🎸🎸😎😎
Love kirk
I'd probably play the fucking song, but I'd have a little fun with it, stand in one place, completely deadpan, and play the song note for note exactly as it appeared on the album. But, it would have to be done to just that one song, it would require complete band participation, and we'd have to do it every single time we played the song or it wouldn't work.
Leper Masiah is my faborite to Kirk!!
I feel like Metallicas setlists have become a little bit safe over the last 10 years. The best era for setlists was when Rob joined right up untill around 2013 ish. The tour where the fans chose the setlist at each gig is what wrecked things, I remember Lars saying, "We were really suprised, most of the sets were more 'stock' than what we would normally play".
kirk is tired of playing sandman nothing seek sad one and creeping death.
Kirk high as hell
What a shame, I love leper messiah. A lot of guys I know love it too it's a favorite for many.
Literally the most unshocking answer possible. Please don't reduce your channel to click bait. You're better than that.
No matter what still smoking hot❤️❤️❤️
They don't like playing Escape live though, only ever did it once.
I would hit the like button, but I don't want to ruin the count.
Lars Ulrich once said he was done playing the song …And Justice For All. It’s long and drawn out, so I don’t blame him (although I still love the song)
Drop Sad but true already, that shit got old 20yrs ago
"Do you like heavy?!" Well, yeah, but not every night...
Leper Messiah is their best song!
#metalhead
I'm pretty sure that a lot, hell maybe most artists are tired of playing their shit over and over again lol. It's not really surprising and it would be bad practice to say you hate or don't enjoy playing a list of songs 😅
I just seen Metallica at welcome to Rockville and I told my friend I hope they play a bunch of older songs and not a bunch of stuff from The Black album and newer and wouldn't you f****** know it it was the anniversary of The Black album and they played it from back to front in entirety I been a Metallica fan since 1986 I was so disappointed and so pissed off I almost walked out of the show if I hadn't got to see mudvayne and anthrax I would have felt so ripped off
Leopard 😭
and yet he doesnt say Metallica Songs He's Sick Of Playing Live
Its not a shocking answer... most of the set list is repeeting its self!!
Looking at Iron Maiden set list on the tour they’re on now, every show is 100% identical. Hate that, should mix it up. Metallica - sick as shit hearing enter sandman and m.o.p. When’s last time they play jump in the fire or dyer’s eve? At least they mix it up their set list nightly, added Trapped under ice on this tour, shocked
Enter sandman is the only Metallica song I’ve ever gotten tired of hearing. I like it ok. Just not as much as I did in high school.
Not being funny, I'd rather play the same song over and over again for the huge profit in return.
Don't get me wrong in their early days touring was brutal and hell, even one of the members died with the crap methods of travelling they had to endure.
But, now they can get to A to B in no time however they see fit.
Get to see the world and try new things while making an absolute killing at each event, just to play the same old and tested set list.
Can't go wrong, in fact you can't even complain about having an easy to please fan base... that's like winning the lottery, it's a bloody dream to most there is no way you can knock it.
The best part, they could easily call something off whenever or stop altogether and still be sat on piles of money.
The only thing I can agree with is once you have had a tonne of money for a certain amount if time and pratically done everything I can see it getting boring.
But, that's why you go and do things you wouldn't normally do to spice it up.
Heck if I got offered a job where I had to work a couple days a week and make a fat pay check week in and week out I'd snap that job up without thinking.
Kirk is slowly morphing into Brian May's twin.
I’d love to see a show of them where they say fuck the casual fans and they play deeper cuts. My dream set list:
Shortest straw
Don’t tread on me
Eye of the beholder
Damage inc
Bleeding me
Through the never
Of wolf and man
Motorbreath
Harvester of sorrow
Ain’t my bitch
Ain't My Bitch and Of Wolf and Man are definitely on my list too. I think they played Through the Nether and Damage Inc when I saw them in 2017 but the one I really enjoyed was Fuel.
I wanna see em play a couple of songs off St Anger but they're kinda mood killers so that ain't gonna happen and I wish they'd played anything from Death Magnetic when I saw them
I call bullshit....any musician that says he is sick of a certain song either isn't getting residuals from it...or has to pay someone else to play it There are alternatives to playing music you don't want to play for people that want to.... Digging ditches, digging graves and filling graves....
I'm a fan, but today for example, Sandman came on... I turned it off instantly -- it's not necessarily the song I don't like, it just annoys me that it's always that song they play. It's ALWAYS that damn song on the radio.
I was sick of Enter Sandman the second time I heard it.
Second time ever or live?
I was sick of that shit before I even heard it.
You know it's Sad but True!
so... clickbait...?
My favourite Metallica song is also Leper Messiah
And my least favourite is Enter Snadman. Seriously, I despise that song
Ronnie has never been played
Maby write another good album people want to hear.
#MetallicaRulz
I think the majority of Metallica fans are sick of hearing it live. Could do with it being off the set list for a while
He plays like he’s tired of them all. That guy gave up a long time ago.
News flash im sick of listening same songs over nad over again, naah the real problem is listening Lars "playing".
He does suck.
So many bullshit spam tags in the description.
This is just pretending he said stuff he didn't say.
Yanno ppl are like blah blah hammett blah wah wah blah blah Pentatonic blah blah blah but all I hear is a bunch of jealous basement guitarist. Granted post black album not so much but hes go a mountain of legendary licks ffwf, rtl, creep dth,all of puppets and of justice even that bitching out of key mess at end of shortest straw in g minor pentatonic. After all these years I can appreciate those catchy licks. Love Friedman but not always down for super technical fret jackery and yes I'm very aware he's not a theory master either.
Oh no we're billionaires please waaaa waaaa I hate playing songs oh no
