- What an amazing radio to have in my hands. The New Yaesu FTDX101D 100 watt HF/6M Direct sampling SDR radio. A beast of a radio. Made a couple contacts today with it, even a DX contact.

This is a radio I can wrap my head around. Thanks for the video.
Eric, GREAT VIDEO pal! I’m BLESSED to say I’m getting a 101MP partly due to your hard work putting this video together so thank you! Keep up the good work buddy. 73’s and Blessings from Oregon!

Great video Eric I've had my eyes on that radio since I've seen it announced good job
Thanks for broad-scaled observe, when a knowledgeable radio amateur gives an insight into a subject, it becomes much more interesting and informative, 73!
Thank you for an informative review Eric. Thanks to Giga-Parts for providing the rig. Your video has helped me decide what the new rig for me is going to be. I live in Attalla, so I'll be going to Huntsville to buy my new baby! Thanks again. 73 from KJ4JKOA
Best review I’ve seen to date man. You have sold me the radio. I have got a FT101 and an FT101E. I recovered them both as good for parts or repair as advertised on eBay. It was so much fun getting them both working and guess what -- they now both run real good and are now getting me QSO’s / contacts world wide. The Yaesu FTDX 101MP is ordered and I recon I’ve earned the right to own one. What history will be in my shack .... this is just such a cool time for Yaesu owners. Thank you Yaesu and thank you for a great heads up video sir. Sincerely - your country cousin GI8WFA. 73.
Finally a great review. Been waiting for one. Thank you. Beautiful rig!!
Wanted add a thank you to gigaparts for the review
Excellent overview. Love the features. Great that GigaParts helped out with the loan so we can see the rig in action. Keep up the good work. KB3NG Vero Beach.
Eric,
Excellent video. Gorgeous radio! Thanks for going through the functions in a well thought out way. 73!
This just pushed me past the line on getting into the radio hobby, thanks.
Fantastic demo! It reminds me of some high-end Yaesu I was able to use for a local EMA Field Day in 2008 or so - never heard a radio that quiet and easy to listen to until now and - surprise! - it's another Yaesu. Just a beautiful rig there. Thank you for running it through its paces for us. 73 DE KC9MAQ
The FTDX101D is a great rig! After playing around with adjustments to the 2D spectrum display, I found the following settings worked well for me. Speed Fast3, Peak LV4, Colour-1 and Colour-13, RBW High, 2D Display Sensitivity HI. This is with a TFT Contrast set at10 and TFT Dimmer set at 7. Awesome fast white band spectrum display and great receiver as well! Not forgetting the scope Multi Level control either, which is great for waterfall fine adjustments for signal display depth.
Thanks Eric I think you did a good job with the overview on this fantastic rig! A friend across the river has one and it is a phenomenal radio. I am saving my dollars to buy one of these to replace the FT1000D and Flex 5000.
Definitely a radio to be saving for as I return to ham radio after been off the air a few years.
Thanks for a good "big picture" review that shows the versatility of this rig.
You always do fair and informative reviews. Appreciate it.
A very nice review, thank you and I look forward some day to owning one of them.
Great reviews as always! Man ... I know so many people who were waiting for this rig ... but it never debuted and they ended up getting Icoms of Flex radios. This looks great. I just hope Yaesu didn't take too long finally releasing it.
i know of q few people who sold their Icoms for one of these. They wish they waited
Fantastic radio. Told my wife after watching this video she was going to have to get a job...lol. I think it would probably take me getting a second mortgage on my home to buy that new Yaesu so it may have to wait till pricing comes down some. Love your videos as I am learning a bunch being new to ham radios. Keep up the great videos.

I think this is the first video that I have EVER seen that makes me want the radio, very well explained.
Not mad on the "Tron" like 3D waterfall but good to see that there are choices.
I just ordered this radio in part due to this video. Great work, keep it up.
Ooooooh yea. Soooo jealous... I’d send a check back and keep the radio. Love this channel.👍👍
Great review Eric! Been waiting for one!
Nice job with the video, and great radio. I'm running a complete FT-950 station and will switch to the new FTdx-101 as soon as I can pull the funds together. 73
With the 3D waterfall aside, this radio is mind blowing with its features. I am an Icom fanboy, but this rig really hits it home. Great job Yaesu. I'm not going to lie, I'm looking forward to Icom's response to this.
Icoms respond? why instead ask yaesu why they have not implement the "average" function as Icom has to decrease the rocket speed of signals peaks. Yaesu is way behind Icom panadapters.
i love the radio , keep the good work my friend.
Great video !!!! Love the easiness of switching from one band to another
Looks like a great radio. Yaesu have thought this out and done well to make sure it earns the '101' model number in homage to the original FT101.
The display looks great and the interface looks easy to use. A good balance between menu items which are easy to access and not too many buttons on the front panel.
Just ones that you would access frequently. A well though out design. Thanks for a really good review.
Great video Eric great contact with ik4gro on 20 m , brought this radio over 12 months back very happy .
Very good video, will be saving my money to get the mp version
Thanks for this, Eric. I'm in love!
Excellent video. I want two. I am going to work on getting my license again. So much easier now. I use to be kc5upj then I got my 5 wpm became a tech plus kd5dhk. No more CW wow.
Awesome video! Love that display, WOW!
Great Job,
Ya, the Radio to end all HF Battles for Ham Radio.
Wow. I Really liked the video.
There will be a Huge increase in used HF radios in the next year's ahead, as Hams use and get hooked on SDR type radios.
This thing is very nice.
Like the configuration saving feature.
73 to all
N0pdg out.
Very very cool radio. I like the band buttons on the front. I also like that the radio has a dedicated RX antenna connection. Having that would make working splits easy.
Great Video Nice Sound!! I have a Yaesu FTDX900D which I love, and I think the audible is terrific and not to different!!
Buying one of these this fall when I retire, will now have time for it again, my last rig was the FT-1000mp field, haven’t been active in a few years. Thanks for the great review. 73 KB8ZF
A great review, I am really impressed with the 3d scope. Just a suggestion it would be great to compare the Ic7610 v TS-890 v FTdx101d (FTdx101MP when its available). Thanks for the reviews looking forward to more!
Excellent as always Eric !
great demo, keep it up !
Thank you for the review Eric.
WOW,,,I want one.. That has come a long way since my FT 101ZD and even my now FT 991..
Alas, I have to continue to use my lowly, ancient IC-756 Pro3, since I am neck high in medical debt! My lowly Pro3 that has worked 50 states on 6 meters (and VUCC), DXCC, WAS, etc. running 'barefoot' with wires, loops, and small 2 element 'Junior' beams! That said, the FTDX-101D is a dream rig and then some!
excellent job and review bro, thanks again.
Great video. Starting at 8:42 when you TX, the right meter is in ALC. I noticed you were pegging the meter. ha ha
About time someone puts this out on RUclips. Thanks so much!
Here's another video with a very good demo of it's features. WB3BJU

@@DonDegidio Great! No doubt it's a great video, and I had seen parts of that one. But even though KJYZI in this video didn't buy the radio for himself, it's still in a home environment and not in some store or at a hamfest so it makes this video that much more interesting for me. He's using his own antenna and making real contacts. I would say this is the first video of it's kind with an FTDX101D
Great video Eric, I appreciate all your reviews. Having said that ,while the 101 looks nice it's not for me. In my 44 years as a ham I've owned many nice Hf rigs. I'm not an SDR fan, and I prefer a radio with power supply, I don't want to have to get a power supply for it after spending $4000 on it. It's still a 100 watt radio, and my recent radios are 200 watts, if I need more I turn the amp on but normally not needed unless I'm rag chewing on 80 meters at night. And speaking of the 101 radios I did buy one brand new in 1976 ,a 101EE...that too was an awesome radio and I still use it now and then... Thanks again, I look forward to your next review, and thanks to GigaParts for making this available for demo..73
Outstanding video that's a fine looking radio thanks for the video good day.
Great review Eric, thanks
Great job, Eric. I did learn something: my IC-735 seems prehistoric in comparison. Lol 73 de W0RHP
OLD BUT GOLD........I'm a proud owner of a Swan Cygnet 260....🖒👍
A good quick look, thanks Eric... I like it and I think I want one, but I need to convince the XYL.. 73's
i divorced her (or rather she me) and that solved the problem. Already purchased this beast :)

Great information regarding this radio Eric. Keep up the great work! 73, WA6TWJ Dave
Outstanding review, cant wait for mine to arrive at the qth
Nice video. I want one of these so bad, especially now after seeing this video.
A truly impressive piece of kit demonstrated with panache. 73s de G6XYZ
Good looking rig. Thanks for the review.
Wow very nice and cool radio thanks for sharing. Love your work de VK6WB
Awesome video best radio ever made I want one
Enjoyed this very much, would love to have one.
Thanks Eric, nice upload, regards Carl.
Enjoyed the video and the walk thru
Great overview, thanks!
Looks great. Waiting for the Sherwood tests. By the way, for some people here, Hf/6/4 mtr. and VHF/UHF in one radio, that's why they build mobile rigs. If one has a base radio, with all those bands and the filtering/SDR , I think would cost a small fortune.
Cool Radio, nice review. Hope i can afford one...
I just picked up a FTDX101MP and wow out of the box i was talking to South and North Carolina from here in Springfield Missouri in no time on 75 meters. Will take awhile to figure out all of the things this will do but i am getting it down. Thanks for the help on getting this setup "some" Eric. They are expensive though...
Nice Rig an nice Video. Thanks for it.
Thanks for the information. This makes me want one! But I think it may take the rest of my life to learn how to use all the things. Maybe never use all. Some of us kind of get stuck once we get one part worked out and see how much we can do with that part before going to learn the next.
Great review Eric of a great radio, don´t like the 3d waterfall. Thanks and 73 from LU7BCS.
really good review thanks
Nice radio. A radio with DVI out nice. best 73's 2e0iqj
sweet rig!! hope to be able to get one of those when I grow up,........ or when my wife lets me spend the money.
From what I been told is the USB's are for a Mouse if you want and then you can add a PC monitor to it and control it with the mouse. that's what was explained to me.
Great video for purchase decision and for users.
Awaitoing for detailed Config video, using advanced fearures dsp etc.. Hints tricks.
This is a beautiful rig. I have been thinking about it since it was first rumored way back. I keep thinking though, once the new car smell wears off will I have any more fun with this close to $4000 radio than I do with my FTDX3000. I always seem to want the latest and greatest!!
km4giy, I'm in the same boat with the FT-DX3000D. I really like it, and don't think it's worth the upgrade at this price. Maybe in a couple years when it gets to $2500 or less. I can wait that long.
Nice video, cool radio. Way out of my league.
this was a very informative video
Nice demo and commentary.
oh man this thing is a beauty it's like art this thing's are normal size in the old days
I wish for Santa to design and bring me a radio like this that also covers 1.25m, 2m, 70cm, 1.2Ghz and offers plugins for other bands. Everything in a single box. Yes, I know all about putting all the apples in a single basket but for limited space, it would be a station maker in a compact form. Combined with Yaesu's nice Linear Amp, speaker module and other things like an external display this radio could put a Ham in Hamville Heaven. Anyone would literally be sitting in front of the worlds greatest designed Amateur Radio Station console. YASUE MAKE THIS RADIO! We would pay the price for all of that nice!
Great review thanks, nice radio as well, might have to talk to Santa :)
I'm gonna purchase the MP version...Very nice radio.
Nice Video thanks for showing off the radio. I would have liked to see you cover some of the CW features of this radio. But otherwise was well done. Someday when I win the lottery maybe I can get one of those too.

Good review... Want...will have...
Thanks for the review. Great radio, with way more features than I would ever use. Still, it would be nice to have one. A bit out of my price range though.
Keep up the good work.

Great review Well done look forward to working you soon best 73 from England de G0UDG
Awesome video
I am in love but not with Eric ! I am going to get that sweet radio. Great Video Eric. Keep it up. Thanks for the First Look. My First Radio was the great Yaesu FT-101EX. 73 KN4IFI
Great video I think the display is a bit like the icom 7300 good radio for me I would buy a icom 7300.
Beautiful radioi!
That's a very beautiful radio!
Videos and pictures don't do it justice; when you sit in front of one you really feel like JY1! 73, Jarrad VK3BL :)
Nice video Eric. I can tell you from my experience between this rig and the 101D as well as the FTDX 3000 and the 7300, the Yaesu internal antenna tuner tends to be much more forgiving then the Icoms do. Not sure why as both are rated similar..
No, they are not rated similar. Why Icom tuners stop tunning when swr is over 3:1? is because Icom wants to protect its passive components (relay contacts and ceramic caps) when tunning antennas with high swr which could damage the tuner, so If yaesu will tune higher swr is because they used higher rated components instead but that means bigger size radio like this 101D. Its just a matter of protection to the builtin tuner.
Great video. I have owned many yaesu equipment over the years until I bought Ft2000 after that Icom ic7600 and seriously and never thought about Yaesu anymore. No doubt Yaesu seems to have done a great job this time "but" I need to demonstrate reliability, which with ft5000 was a failure for the money invested. And also despite the fact that Sherwood numbers are unbeatable, you have to see it with real antenna and with very low signals. The display is very nice but I do not buy a radio to see a nice display I buy to do it in difficult conditions and it is at the receiver where I put the money and not on the display. HI if it is beautiful and listens very well without a doubt it is a winner. Many times laboratory if it indicates good things and then in reality it looks something different (it is my opinion). Only time will tell if it's worth it to return to Yaesu or wait for Icom's answer that I'm sure will be devastating. Great video Thank you for that. Great work of Yaesu
Glad to see a Yaesu radio on yr channel,... used to have 101 bk in the day, also its not a purse sdr, VIVA Yaesu... but I have to say the red trim on the pages and the waterfall are kinda ugly, are their any diff themes, Im sure the performance is great,... price point is gd, compared to TS990. But then again I like the Kenwoods as well... cheers Eric
I want one!! tnx Eric!
This radio is beautiful. I have my fathers FTDX-401 and things have com so far! I can't imagine why this rig, a base station does not allow you fo plug it directly into a 120V outlet.
Appears to be a Sales demo no technical info. Nice job!
I want to hear that ant you know. nice radio and enjoy watching your video
Could you please do another video to focus on NR, NB and VC controls and performance both in CW and SSB. Those are very important features that must work well to make this a great radio. Thanks -Joe N3HEE
So far from what we've seen the NR works very well for weak signal HF SSB, which is a nice surprise! We've got one video up, but hope to have more extensive ones soon. 73, Jarrad VK3BL :)
Yaesu has always had the best Noise reduction out of the big three, flex may be as good. So yes easy to use and the receiver is quiet already without it engaged, having the feature is a plus. I compared the 101d with the 7300,7610,ts890, and the frdx5000, its DNR and NB is light years ahead of the 5000, and by far better than the others
Just picked up mine today:)
Dead Sexy!!
Thanks for the review Eric!
Hi Eric, thanks for sharing :)
A nice rig indeed, so i would like to see comparisons between the TS890 and this particular rig (not taking into account it has 2 receivers), as the 890 is on my bucket list :P
Such things could be shown as NR and NB, how they work actually, as well as close strong signal behavior.
73, Chris
