- Jarrad VK3BL checks out the new FTdx-101D at Strictly Ham, and wow is it a ripper of a radio!
We're hoping to be able to visit the shack of one of the early owners and provide more extensive coverage shortly, but we thought we'd share with you our first impressions so far, and they're great!
The radio feels really well made, has an undeniable 'presence' to it and features new ergonomics never before seen on a radio; specifically the 'outer ring' of the main VFO knob for sub VFO control and other functions.
Despite the complexity and the plethora of features, we only had to spend around 30 minutes playing with the radio before recording the video to get a good feel for it; and our friend Steve who owns one reports rarely having to look into the manual.
Certainly an exciting release for Yaesu. We think its target market is significantly different from the IC-7610, so whilst they may seem to be competitors in our eyes they suit the needs of vastly different operators.
There is something about the FTdx101D that just makes you feel 'at home' when its in front of you, and we are sure it will be well received by rag chewers and DXers alike!
Of course we're all awaiting the Sherwood numbers, but we can't see any reason why it wouldn't be up to scratch.
We hope you enjoy the video, and stay QRV for more!
73, Jarrad VK3BL :)
