- Hi guys! I just wanted to share with you all my Kanani's visit to the Doll Hospital! She came with some fascinating notes about American Girl's un-symmetrical face molds and new skin tones that I thought would be nice to share! Also to give you all a look at the original vs. new doll comparison!

Thanks so much for sharing. My daughter and I wanted to send our Kanani in for a new head because her wig is so thin and it lost it’s waves. Our Kanani has lovely tan skin, I would hate for her to loose that. Also love her old face mold. Definitely not sending our girl in now. We will re-wig her ourselves. 🌺
I think there are some Kanani wigs you can purchase on ebay or Mercari!! That could be super helpful in reinvigorating your original haha
I’ve been wanting a comparisons video with the new Kanani and the old Kanani, because I’m debating on sending mine. Overall, I think the older Jess mold is a lot cuter, despite one eye being much smaller and having a thinner wig, shorter wig.
She looks great !! That is so interesting they have a new skin tone and the no computer generated face molds.

I like the new Kanani better. I even sent in my original Kanani to the doll hospital a few months, even though there wasn't anything really wrong with her, and I have zero regrets.

I have a feeling AG used a #79 head mold, but different hair, and possibly different eyes.
She definitely looks extremelyyy similar haha, that's why I eventually sold my 79! But I did compare my new Kanani with a doll with the 25 skin tone and it's a little lighter and not completely the same!

Glad you posted. I have a number 30 I got on eBay with ink in her face. It's taking so long to remove it that I thought I'd just send it into the hospital. I guess not.
Aw I love JLY30! She was my second doll ever! I agree I wouldn't want her to have the newer mold, there's a chance AG has older molds in stock for the Doll Hospital though?! I hope you can get the ink out though!! I believe in those sun treatments haha

Wow. I'm glad I had my Kanani's head changed about 6 years ago. Your redone Kanani does look nice but she doesn't reflect Kanani's Hawai'ian heritage. Kanani was the first doll to have the extra-long hair. Mine was the favorite classroom doll and Kanani went home with a student every weekend. Her hair did get over-styled, so I brought her home with me and sent her to the doll hospital. She is one of my favorites. I guess they all are my favorites.
this was really cool to see! i’ve been meaning to send mine in since like 2018 so this hyped me up more to potentially do it lol :’) i prefer the older face mold too, but she looks super cute! :)

I sent my Kanani in for a head replacement last year, knowing that they only had the new Jess face and also knowing that the skin tone was different and that I would be getting new arms and legs as well (I'm not sure where I heard that, but someone had posted that before I sent her in). It's odd because mine does look like she has the #25 skin tone, but yours doesn't. However, watching your video made me realize that I really need to send her back to get her eyes replaced. She came back last year with the down-ward facing eyes and I was going to let it go, but I'm officially bringing her to FedEx today to get her eyes swapped. I chose "hearing aid" on the hospital admission because that was the cheapest option and then I added a note that she doesn't need a hearing aid but that I would like her eyes swapped. We shall see how it all works out. :) Thanks for posting this!!

@@ag.primrose Kanani is back and she looks GORGEOUS with her new eyes!! I'm so shocked at what a HUGE difference it makes to not have the downward facing eyes. Somehow her eyes look smaller, softer, younger and just so much cuter. Looking at pictures of her with the other eyes, she almost looked "bug-eyed" and not "alive". She looks like a sweet little girl now. What a wonderful surprise! Thanks again for posting this video, as it really encouraged me to go ahead and send her back. And it didn't cost me a penny. Yeah!
I don't care for the new Jess mold either. This makes me not really want Kanani anymore because I want to have a Kanani like she was in 2011.
Yeah it really sucks that they don't offer older Kanani's anymore :( It's bittersweet because I am still glad they have a version of her available instead of not offering at all though!

The new Kanani is cute, but the old Kanani is cuter. I like her old skin tone better. Not that the new one is bad, just prefer the old one on her because that is Kanani. The new one feels more like Kanani's sister. Not Kanani. If that made any sense at all lol

Honestly the old Kanani is better! I was thinking about buying Kanani off this listing I saw. I started to notice that the facemold from your video looked the same as the listing and sadly the seller doesn't know if they sent it to the doll hospital since it was pre owned im still thinking about it!
Can you make a more in depth comparison of the two with better lighting because the lighting makes it harder to see the differences? Thank you!

I don't love the new skin tone. I think the old/darker skin tone looks better and fits the character more.
I never was a big fan of the Jess mold. But, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t buy a doll with the Jess mold if I like her collection. We will see what comes out later this summer.
haha the jess mold might be my favorite mold, but you're totally right in that the collection definitely influences me!!
I really don’t like the changes. It sucks because i found my kanani when I was packing my stuff to move to my new house and her hair is a disaster plus she was the first ag doll that I got. I got her right after she was released for my birthday. So she’s definitely looking a little rough.
I was going to send her to the doll hospital but definitely not now after seeing this. The new face mold is okay, my issue is the new skin tone. She doesn’t look right with the lighter skin IMO. Her tan skin gorgeous.
I guess Im just going to find someone to re wig her for me or something because I really don’t want to lose her original skin tone and face mold
I think the newer dolls have looser limbs to make them easier to play with. I remember when Joss came out people were upset at that.
They tie the limbs now rather than using a crimped metal tube.

i have an original kanani i wanted to send it to get a new wig, but after this i think im going to get a new wig and rewig her myself so i don’t lose the original charm

I was gonna send my kanani in but now I can’t because I hate how they white washed her 🤣like she was meant to be darker but they made her lighter and the face just looks different

if i had an original kanani and sent her to the doll hospital and she came back with a completely different head and body produced after 2011 i would throw up i think
Her skin is lighter and her eyes are wide. She looks less Hawaiian and more white.
