How to diagnosis and fix a trunk that will not open with the remote or the trunk release switch.
Issue: The trunk will no longer open with the remote or the trunk release switch when the trunk is closed or almost closed. When the trunk is fully open, the actuator will work with the remote and the switch. However, if you trunk is halfway closed or almost closed, the remote and the switch will not work.
Fix: After testing the trunk latch actuator, it was not the issue. All function of the actuator was okay. The issue was a open short on the ground wire which was located near the trunk latch hinge. Once the damaged wire was fixed, everything was fixed.
Things tried to fix the issue that did not help: disconnect the battery for 10 min. replace the trunk light back to stock. replace the led bulbs back to factory halogen bulbs, replaced the trunk light fuse, installed a new trunk latch actuator assembly.

thanks for this man! I moved to a new town and have been to a new garage twice now, just for an oil change/tire rotation. the first time i got the car back with a pinhole leak on the inside tire wall on a front tire (got it plugged somewhere else). the second time, yesterday, they apparently flipped this switch (which no garage I have ever been to has done) and didn't tell me. safe to say I will never take my car back there again.

This video just saved me a lot of trouble. The switch in the glove box was set to off and that was exactly what was wrong. My glove box latch disconnected a week ago, and I had to fight to reconnect it. I must've bumped the switch when I was fixing that.

Thank you for this! I thought I was gonna have yet another expensive repair. I drive an Uber in Boston, and people have a tendency to slam the trunk, making me think one of them was "the last straw" breaking the latch mechanism. Apparently, I accidentally tripped the valet switch when rummaging through my glove compartment.

Thank you for watching. I had the xb fogs installed for the past 6-7 years and I have zero issues with them. They don't blind on coming drivers and the beam pattern is crisp, sharp and wide. Same thing with the HID setup. No issues whatsoever. I've been using their products for over a decade. Great product and customer service.

Nice informative video. try changing the black wire with new one. from the socket all the way to the cut point. there might be a lost contact or break on the wire inside the wire insulator.

I hope so too. This was a little more technical to figure out the issue. Even though I have a zero deductible extended warranty on this vehicle, I decide to troubleshoot it myself than taking it to the dealership to get it fixed so that other people can figure it out without having to pay the $120 - $150 diagnostic fee at the dealership outside the warranty period.
Excellent video. I have the same problem with the driver's door on my Dodge Caravan. Interior lights shut off when the door is opened past a certain point.

Can you tell us how we can install the trunk release button honda accord 2017 sport special edition
I have a similar issue but its on my 21 Acura TLX. I used 2 of my key fob, the button outside of the trunk and the button inside my door. They all do not work. I also check the glove box switch and it was clicked to ON. I even disconnected the car battery and nothing work. But when I do press the trunk release on my Key Fob, the hazard light do flashes. I'm pretty sure I would not of shorted anything since the trunk light is on. For the time being only way for me to open my trunk is manually by using the key and open it up on the rear deck. Do you think it might be a bad relay? Hope you might have some insight to this.

Do you know a way to keep my turning bulbs off while not in use (regardless headlights are on) ? Is there a fuse for this? I switched them to LED bulbs, and even though I bought the ones with covers to reduce glares as much as posible, they are throwing too much light out so that I just want to find a way for them to turn on when my signals are on. Thank you.

Probably would have been a good ideal to blur out your license plate or tape a color paper on it. You just to be safe! There’s a lot of creeps out there. Love ur vids Jeff!

I’m having the same issue where my trunk is not opening with the smart key. The switch is set to “on” in my glovebox but the trunk release button on the actual trunk does not beep. What does it mean if it doesn’t beep when I press it?

Mine has very weird issue with trunk. Actuator is working, but only when you manually trigger trunk release with car diagnostics. Button or key doesn’t work. I would say its a cable, but how can i open with diagnostics, but my key is not working. I have ford focus with keyless entry 2010 mk2

I can't open my 08 accords trunk, my neighbor is much smaller than I and he was in the trunk for about 1/2 hour, he says theres a another cable connected to the lock which he couldn't get to....now I have to check out some more intensed accord manuals to see what I need to do, because that top cable is moving, and my key fob actuates it too....

My car trunk has been not working well for a bit.. sometimes, with the car parked and stopped, it would open the trunk on it's own.. we could close it multiple times, it would re-open within 2-5 minutes.
Now we can't even open it manually. So if we can't open it at all (I have groceries and meat in there..) how can I fix it?
