I was diagnosed with CHF. I was put on metoprolol and was on it over a year along with all my other heart meds.
Keep in mind that I am a retired cardiac RN.
Back in August of this year, I took my meds that thursday night and started having chest pains at my sternum and radiated down both arms. Lasted about 30 minutes and eased off. The next night I took all my meds and the same thing happened. That Saturday night I took all my meds and didn't take the metopolol and no pain. Sunday I only took the metoprol, nothing else and I had the pain again. The next morning I called my cardiologist, and was told not to take it anymore. Two weeks later I had a heart attack but according to the cath, no blockages.
My cardiologist said she had never heard of that medicine causing that to happen. But it did happen to me.
You never know what these meds can do to you, good or bad.
Omg! So sorry! How are you doing after heart attack. I have afib but scared to death to take 12.5 mg a day. Hope you’re doing better.
How frightening, I hope you are ok now
It definitely shows that we all need to be careful
It caused nasty stomach pain chest pain very tired I know now why my Father was mad all the time he had stomach pain too My Father bled to death from the BLOOD THINNERS
@bradleyhannah8713 OMGOODNESS 😢.
It happened to me too so far havent had another heart attack I dont think this cardiologist knows what he is doing it seems he has become lazy every diagnosis is the same I have white coat bp at home its normal
I been taking metroprolol 100 mg for 5 years for tachycardia, & it has helped me a lot cause my heart ♥️ beats were out of control, no side effects thank God 🙏🏽
I take it for the same reason (100 mg/day), and it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do......regulate my heart rate. No serious side effects.
50 mg because my heart is beating at 112 but blood pressure is good, I am concern
@@ansnfbsknanssshshbsnsndnd5438 yes it is & am also taking Digoxin 125mg , hopefully I won’t need a pacemaker, that’s why I have to take both medications.
How many gram metroprolol take for pulse 100,110, 120, 130, 140
My doctor says take it until pulse getting normal. And take medicine atleast gap of 1 hour. But I need to know what is exact figure so that I can alert
@@samarjitsaha507 i been taking beata blockers since I was in my 20’s . I take Metropolol 100mg. xl because my heart ♥️ rate was too high, I also take digoxin 125mg, I take it before I go to sleep with metropolol 100 extended relief, it really helps me, cause the heart Dr. told me that having fast heart ❤️ rate all the time will enlarge the heart ♥️, my mom has the same problem , and metropolol didn’t work, and she has a pacemaker now , I hope I don’t get to that point , my heart rate normally is 99, 100, but sometimes is 105 , but if I get nervous if it goes to 115; ok take care, I hope that you get better 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽But if you heart rate is 140 that’s way too high, my heart rate got really high after my back surgery, I think 🤔 it was 137 and it was cause my blood pressure was high from being in pain.
Another side effect is fainting. I took Metoprolol 4 years ago and fainted while just standing and dropped to the floor. While I was in the hospital recently, the nurse gave me Metoprolol, even though I told her that I had fainted on it before. Low and behold, after 3 days of taking it, I had a 6 second pause aka fainting while I was lying in bed. I took it for 4 months after leaving the hospital and was eventually unable to walk or stand up. After being weaned off, in a day or two I could magically walk and stand up. People definitely need to share their side effects with their doctors. I will NEVER take Metoprolol again and have it listed in my medical records as being dangerous for me to take it.
I had my legs collapse and had to learn to walk again. When I was dismissed from the hospital I was given Metpropolol. I struggled to walk because my leg muscles wouldn't work. I took myself off and my legs started working again. I'm living back at home now and able to walk.
Something else going on metoprolol don’t do that
I believe you ……..on this medication …….low dose …….almost fainted taking ballet class and another exercise class so I stopped ….
3 days later sounds like after it built up in your system. Dose might be something to consider. You may also encounter this again in the future with similar drugs, especially drugs with long half lives that build up in the system.
@@RamboBrazyyyes. It effects joints. I was having trouble walking, using my hands.
I'm 64 and take metoprolol for chronic migraine. It's very effective for me. Been on it for a year and I've had no side effects whatsoever. I still get headaches now and then but they're very mild and controllable with an occasional ibuprofen or tylenol. Truly, this drug is a life saver for me. I also avoid alcohol and some other food triggers such as over-ripe fruits. Particularly bananas. Thank you for the informative video!
Over-ripe bananas are CraZy high in Sugar!🙄 You might as well eat a dang candy bar!!😳
I've been taking Metoprolol for around a year and so far haven't had any adverse symptoms.
I basically want to know whether I should have eaten something before taking it.
I have never experience depression like I have since I started this medication.
I'm prone to depression too. I'm telling my doctor
Wow on it since 65 I'm 68 now. Something to think about. I'm sleeping a lot! Than you.

In 2011 I got a bovine tissue aortic valve replacement, and started taking 25mg sa Metropolol. It keeps my BP at one-teens over low 70's, and my pulse in the low 60's. If I don't take it my BP goes 130+ over 80+, and my pulse 80+

I was just put on this medicine last November. My BP dropped from 145/85 to 130/75. My pulse rate went from 92 down to 65. So far so good.
What other effects are from it? Do you feel less stressed out; tense, anxious?
@@Serrotonin - Less anxious. When my heart beat too fast it felt like an anxiety attack. This mostly stops my heart from beating so fast it skips bests. I felt dizzy the first week then got over it quickly.

I recently started taking these for high bp and slight chest pain and it helped me with my anxiety who would’ve known
My anxiety and panic attacks have also completely disappeared too. My doctor told metoprolol stops the adrenaline feedback between the heart and the brain. Love the stuff!
It seems to help my anxiety too
Me too. When I go skydiving I bring my Oxymeter with me. Right before we jump out my buddies and I check our heart rates. I always have the lowest heart rate. LOL

I think Metoprolol has helped my heart issues over all, but I THINK taking 20 to 40 MG of Atorvastatin daily affects or interacts it! Seemingly random heart grumblings (for a lack of a better term) occur, and last for a few minutes to maybe an hour, then go away. I am paying more attention now, and have decided to cut my statin dosage in half. Already in 36 hours, it seems to have helped!

This drug has been literal poison to me. 25mg twice a day because iI got diagnosed with sleep apnea. 2 weeks for something that made me worse than i was before. Panic attack, anxiety, and depression I never had before. Uncontrollable crying and gloom and doom to a point of about feeling suicidal. Insomnia and crazy nightmares. I went to the hospital with 196/94 BP pulse at 115 resting when my BP used to be 120/67 and pulse about 60. I weaned off a couple days and completely stopped. Felt on top of the world immediately. It was making my heart race on small tasks and short of breath. I read 100s of reviews and maybe 10 were people that liked it. Other than that 95% were having the same issues I was having and I was glad I wasnt alone. Learn and be very careful starting this drug. Good luck.
I've experienced the same thing with a different blood pressure med. Evil AF medicine. I'm doing this research on this med for my dad. You described everything he is going through.
How are you feeling now? Hope all is better.
I quit mine cold turkey. Was brutal for a month of withdrawal. (They never talk about that either) much better now.
@Daisy I was on it for 2 weeks only and in that time it had my brain so panicked I couldn't even fathom quitting it cold turkey. The wierd thing, although doctors will deny it because Metroprolol has a half life, is that my heart rate goes into the 50s more often. Which wasn't an issue before the drug. But as of now, because of that drug, I've done a complete lifestyle change. It was such a traumatic experience for me that I decided to take control of things. So diet change and excercise has got me down about 56 pounds so far. Now here's the wierd thing..I feel like I have residual anxiety. But it comes and goes. I'll feel 100% for a few days and then I'll have a couple days I have hard time being in public and I'll be overly concerned about my health. Another thing docs will probably deny. I tell my wife it's like bi polar moments or something. I never had that before. It's like it residually messed with my brain a bit. Or maybe a ptsd from it I don't know. But I'm tired of taking pills and listening to different doctors bullshitting me with their own opinions and throwing a pill at me to try. Good luck to you and your Father. Definitely look into options.

I'm so glad I decided to dump the metoprolol. I was put on it after I developed Afib a couple years ago.
Here's what made me decide to stop taking it. Outside of the fact that I don't enjoy feeling sluggish!, there is new evidence that this once go-to drug for anything heart-related doesn't make any difference in heart protection!! The study I read about was extensive and followed several thousand heart patients who took beta-blockers for several years! Everyone was very surprised at the results. The conclusion was that contrary to the heart protection that most doctors prescribe it for, the evidence shows that actually nope, this has turned out not to be factual. I wish I could find that medical news article. Because I would provide the link here! The results of the study were published in 2018. I do recall that!😉 In essence it said that with the very effective blood pressure meds that we now have available is probably the reason why no real difference in heart attack rates or severity were seen. That effectively controlling BP seems to be the Key in avoiding future heart issues.
You can probably do a Google search and find this study that was done and published concerning the beta-blockers!😉😎

I wouldn't recommend Metoprolol to my worst enemy...its pushed so hard and it's made me severely ill in so many ways and is sickening....beware, I am 76 years old and I only took one 12.5 mg at 5 PM couple days ago and that night 11 PM awoke, breathing issues, coughing & awful sore throat. Didn't take anymore but still having the horrible side effects from that one dose...so dizzy today and just sick...horrible stuff and it's killed payients as well. Not all will go through negative results but a great many have. I wish I'd known beforehand...doc says it safe...don't always believe what you are told, there are deadly drugs out there ...this is one.
Does that include linsopril
Metoprolol is different than lisinopril. I have a different video discussing that.
Does anyone take this with garlic supplements? Any side effects? My Aunt just started Metoprolol, but she has always used garlic supplements, which she says has always helped keep her bp low. Can she use them both together?
What about Magnesium and Metoprolol? Or all 3?
You can definitely take magnesium with this drug!
Garlic will thin the blood which would also be good
Anyone have trouble adjusting to temperature? I am taking it for high blood pressure and heart palpitations. It has absolutely helped my bp and palpitations but when I get cold, I feel I've I'm freezing (3 blankets, socks, and my toes turn blue) and it takes me a while to warm up. When I get hot (any time I use the stove or go for a walk outide), I feel like I'm going to burn up. I am suddenly drenched in sweat and feel like I cannot function. It's super temporary but very uncomfortble.
U haveing hot flashes that have a lot to do with it to I take it fit both
Cold feet is a common one.
Been on 25mg twice a day for 8 years. No problems.
Thanks, I have been prescribed the same thing a few weeks ago. Do you play guitar as well?
@@paterson90 yea
I am 25mg as well, I’ll ask my doctor if i can take 2 doses a day, I feel like it runs out during the day. Was this the same issue for you?
“Hi.! Im watching from the Philippines, im just curious which is more effective and safer to use “nebivolol or metropolol?” And whats the difference between the two?” Thank you.!🙏🏻❤️
What can i switch to thats less sideceffects
You are right. I have been diagnosed with Raynauds. I am taking 100 mg. Per day of metprolol and am tired all the time. I had a triple heart bypass 2 1/2 years ago and feel worse than before surgery. I think I will cut my pills in half and wean myself off them. My doctor doesn't seem to be very smart.
I did that the first year. I felt tired all the time so I split the pills in half felt tons better.
I have taking metaprolol 12.5 extended release. While it works well, I am feeling extremely hungry. Any alternative?
You know what was funny? Before this video, I got an Kit-Kat ad...
In conclusion, after two decades Plus on seven different medications, how can I really know what side effects are causing from which Med? They all have some sort of side effect.
So true
What about insomnia… I can’t hardly
sleep… been on it for one week
I Don't Sleep More Than 3 To 4 Hours, Then Wake Early And Can't Get Back To Sleep Or Nap At Any Time, So It Seems I Am Always Walking Around In A Fog, And So Very Tired All The Time
If you need this type of drug this is one of the prescribed and all will have side effects. And listening to a GENERAL practitioner vs a Cardiologist who prescribes many types of meds like this one vs antibiotics
Huh?
50mg of Metoprolol, helps me very well, no side effects
I take 20mg daily for hypertropic cardio myopathy. I wonder about no longer taking. I’m super heathy. Heart checks out great at my cardiologist. But I’m still stuck on this last med. maybe another 6mo ?
Is metoprolol a good medicine to take for a second degree heart block? Cause the cardiologist I go to prescribed this medicine for me and it still feels like something isn’t quite right even while I’m taking this medicine…thanks in advance for the answer.
I had night hallucinations on this med…
I have such bad symptoms from this I just started 2 weeks ago and I heard it gets better but I'm really going through it with headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, feeling weak, and trouble concentrating.
Do you still continue to used it @Liz Tate when you have already the symptoms?
Have some patience, the symptoms will go away as times gors
@@abdoolraza I did 2 weeks in and i would want to kill myself if I had to go any longer. This wreaked havoc on me emotionally and physically. I weaned a couple days and stopped today. The past 2 weeks has been traumatizing.
@@Lesspaw41 How are you feeling after stopping the medication?
@Amid Fofanah that's been a couple years ago. I'm a 100% in that area. I've lost about 90lbs and excercise. I only take lisinopril for my BP. But I felt better immediately after stopping the metropolol.
I'm on this medication after 7 days ringing in both ears driving me crazy I told cardiologist and nothing happened
Multiple times headaches throbbing. I fell like trash from this medication
I have multiple sclerosis also it flares my multiple sclerosis symptoms also I feel like crap every day of the week. Unbelievable
I take 25mg and its working good but like u said headaches are a problem. I take it for palpitations and anxiety and its working good but i just cant stand headaches every Day. If they dont stop i ll stop taking it and go to cardiologist for another beta blokator
@@marko0574 I have multiple side effects ringing in the ears also throbbing headaches etc burning sensations

Panic attacks, anxiety, and depression for me. Like almost suicidal thoughts. Never felt like this before. On it 2 weeks of hell. I weaned 2 days and stopped today.
By any chance are you on aspirin too? That makes my ears ring/buzz.
Talk about taking metroprol with heart rate of 64 doctor said it will help how is that true. Could you please tell your story. Thank you
Is it safe to take for a heart scan? I see alot of people say don't stop using it but I was only prescribed 2 pills 100g each to take 1 the night before and 1 and hour before the test to help slow my heart rate to get better pictures in the scan. Been really nervous to take it. Don't like the idea of messing with my heart.
Did you take it? How did it go? My friend has exact the same thing!
@@johannesreijnen3479 yeah and I had no issues at all. They had to end up giving me more via an i.v since the pill was unable to lower my heart rate enough.
So, the fear was completely out of order! Fear is the enemy! Thanks a lot, also for the fast reply!
