Hi. Just a brief note to say “thank you” for your videos. Your night runs like this one are my favorites because, like you, I enjoy the solitude. I’m 71 and live in Oregon in the USA. Although I’ve always had trouble sleeping, the state of our world and especially my country lately hasn’t helped. So your night journeys smooth my soul these days. Many thanks!
Hello from Maryland (USA), RailCowGirl!🙏🏾 I absolutely love your videos. I use them to sleep and to do work. Sometimes just for the scenic routes. The mountains are amazing there....😃 Thanks for posting!
Very nice to finally hear your voice. Your videos are a great way to see Norway which I think is the most under-appreciated country in the world. My great-grandfather emigrated from the Modum area in the late 1800s to farm in the US.
I very much enjoy your videos. Keep them coming! I’ve been fascinated with railroading for all my life, mostly because my grandfather was a longtime railroader. He went to work for the Louisville & Nashville, now part of CSX, in 1908 at 15 years old. His first job was as a caller. Since most folks didn’t have telephones then, when they needed crew from the extra board, they sent a guy out on a bicycle to knock on their door. When he was old enough he moved to a fireman job and eventually to engineer. He retired in 1959 with 51 years of service.
My railroading has mostly been with HO models. But for 8 years of summer weekends, I got to operate a 15” gauge coal fired steam locomotive in a park. The two greatest sounds in the world together, a steam whistle and children’s laughter!
Truly enjoyed watching from Syracuse NY. Thank you for sharing
i just discovered these videos and it's very interesting! I'm a retired airline pilot, now working for the FAA and I find some similarities. One of my best childhood experiences is when we took a train from Oslo in 1956 ( I was around six or seven yrs old) and we pulled into Kristiansand, my first visit from the US. The snow was falling gently and everything was so quiet and beautiful. That was the first and only long haul train ride I was ever on. I've been to Norway many times since but one of these days I want to use rail instead of driving ( all the speeding tickets, LOL)
Appreciating trains, solitude and bad weather. My kind of gal! 💙☺ (Your videos are my favourite "getaway")
glad i caught the last 30-45 minutes of the stream wasn't sure i would make it, hope to see more epic videos & more Q&A's like these. Stay Safe out there :-) Also Hello from Central Illinois
I love watching your videos (all of them) for me it is like taking a virtual holiday I live in Australia and I really love your winter trips
Thank you so much for your videos. You have helped bring me closer to someone special
Thanks to your videos my wife and I are going to spend Christmas 2025 in Norway and ride the Bergman line. Thank you for all you do.
**Thank You RCG** I really enjoyed this trip with you: I learned some interesting things, and you have a lovely voice!! (My first Q&A with you.) Blessings & Joy from Pantego, Texas, USA, 3AM!! 😊❤
Really good to hear from you RCG and glad that you're enjoying the green machines!
Sorry I didn't watch live as for some reason I didn't get a YT notification 🤔
+22:46 ❤ the night lighting on Geilo ski lift
Your english is fantastic! I easily understand every word. Thank you!
Your videos help me so much with my anxiety thank you!
What a Gem of a find, ...this video answered so many questions I've had since recently finding your channel. -- What a joy, thank you!
Thank you :D
Hello from Denver, This was a fun and informative train ride. I love you videos.
So happy to see you back, doing your live streaming again. All the best with your new job and I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy watching your content. Welcome back!
So enjoyed watching this ! And Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Exciting!!!! Thanks for the great videos!
Glad you like them!
Hello from North Carolina. I've been watching your videos for over a year now, since the covid pandemic. I love watching for the same reasons you like working the night shift. I feel like I am traveling in another world, like in a dream. Thank you for sharing and stay safe.
Awesome! Thank you!
The discussion about stowaways reminded me about the time I was in the Navy visiting the port of Stavanger. A friend went ashore, got drunk, stumbled into a freight carriage, and got locked in for several days until the train reached Oslo. It was very cold and he was really lucky to survive.
Holy cow! You know there is a story of an American marine that got drunk and climbed a class 72 in Stavanger. He sadly got fried when he climbed on top of the train. :(
These videos are both interesting and relaxing.
I Always watch cabrides as help to fall assleep faster. you calm voice made that work very well.
Thank you!
I'm absolutely enthralled by your voice. It's beautifully soothing.
In fact, I use this as ASMR to sleep 🤪
Thanks, glad you like it :)
Tram to train is a big step up in weight and size. Hope you get to try that TGV, or maybe an iron ore train in the north. Even slower but 8000 tones going downhill to Narvik might be exciting 🙂
Good to hear you, RCG, after this time.
Your Q&A videos are a peaceful escape from the hectic pace of life. You are appreciated so much. Make as many talking videos as possible, I love listening to your soothing voice and love your accent (I'm from the state of Arkansas, USA). Who would have thunk it? :) Small world, huh?
Thank you! Glad you like them! :D
Happy new year!! Congrats your gunna hit 500k
Happy New Year! Yes, it might actually happen today :D
I just started watching this video. When you -- RCG -- asked someone about this video scaring their cat, it reminded me of my second cat, an orange {ginger} tabby I named _"Jaws."_ I named him that when he was a kitten because he would gently nibble on my fingers when he wanted something to eat.
YEARS LATER when _"Shark Week"_ was playing on cable television, whenever a shark was displayed on the TV screen _Jaws_ {my cat} would just *STARE* at the TV. Really...😊
Thank you for the great video! ☺ •♥
It is amazing how sometimes you go thru a tunnel in a blizzard and come out and its not a blizzard.
The cats and I use these videos for our naps 🐈⬛
good to be riding with you and the crew
Love your video's!!! When I was a kid I wanted to become a train engineer but the drop in the use of railroad in my area had me wondering if I would have been able to make a career out of it. Wish I had stayed with it. Are all your trains run off the electric grid or do you have any diesel power?
Hello from a train driver in Sweden. 😄
Do you take drivers in training along on trips? Did you have ride alongs during your training?
Have you ever suddenly come upon people inside tunnels?
Also seems like a lot of snow and ice inside sheds made of wood. Are there that many gaps in the walls or is the snow sucked into the sheds by trains or both?
And especially. Do you ever find yourself mesmerized and losing perspective with blowing snow and passing poles and walls inside tunnels? I find myself almost hallucinating watching some parts of your videos. The onrushing scenery particularly when only lit by headlamp is very disorienting sometimes.
PS: I thought the name Hindu Cowgirl was the most brilliant and clever name on RUclips. And your logo is fantastic. Bravo!
very nice and
interesting videos. learning a lot! waiting for more.
Thank you!
Good luck with the new job and hours. From someone who had to work 11 pm to 11 am, sleeping during the day is no fun. I also don't like waking up before about 6 am.
Hermoso viaje, muchas gracias.
Thank you so much!
I had a strange dream about being a train driver. Well it wasn't that strange apart from the fact I am 40 yo who never had any interest in trains at all. It got me curious tho about the job and if it would be a relaxing thing to do. Thanks for the video, you have a beautiful voice so relaxing to listen to, keep up the great content x
Oi sou Brasileiro , e gosto muito dos seus vídeos , me deixa numa vibe relaxante e curtindo as paisagens do local ! 🇧🇷💖👍🐄
I enjoy the snow an rain videos the most they’re so relaxing to me 👍👍👍👍👍👀👀👀🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤗
Thanks, glad you like them :)
Great video!
@RailCowGirl 😊So glad to hear your voice😊. Spend months wondering what one may look like, or sound like...and why was I suprised when you sounded Norwegian?!❤ Enjoy the rails, and enjoy the skies!🚅🛩
Why does that surprise you? I am Norwegian:)
@@RailCowGirl Just a brain freeze moment!!!🥶 I knew you were Norwegian!❤🇳🇴❤
Hi i am LK Ong from Singapore.
I travelled on the railway in Norway in the 1990.Thank you for our live stream. It brings back fond memories.
I remember travelling to Narvik but had to go Via Sweden passed by Upsalla and Abisko National Park.Is there a direct route to Narvik now after all these years?
Thank you again
1:38:27 well you recognizing an issue there which went rampant in many countries. Like in mine in Austria. Law is not the reality although we add laws and bureaucracy on a ridiculous speed. It whether adds efficiency nor safety, actually it makes things even more complicated as they are and in some parts even simply imossible!
I just can agree to your view of that! Safe tracks :D
Because of your channel I'm learning Norwegian on duolingo as I watch this. Seems similar enough to English (at least at the start) that you can often work it out
Thanks, that's great!
So soothing voice you have 😀
Thank you :D
more, than very nice - wonderfull - thank you. Svizzly
Thank you
Soon we will see you flying in a TGV 😄🥳
Hello from Hagerstown md, usa,the hub city, We have 2 major rail companies plus a short line, CSX, Norfolk Southern, and the Winchester and Western
Hello, from Seoul.
How far is your Hagerstown from Westminster or Germantown? I just recall this two cities from my memory .
I had been Westminster and Germantown, i think, in MD long time ago .
RCG - you where talking about animals on the line in the Q&A. Don't forget the goats on the Flam Line 😂😂😂
Hello there from South Africa. I love watching your videos. Does it become tricky when operating in snowy conditions? I wish you safe journeys ahead
Compress the train? So you use moderate dynamic braking to do that?
Thank you for answering my questions. I am amazed at the landscape of Norway. One more question- do you ever run multiple unit consists? Over here in the states, it’s not uncommon to have 4-5 locomotives, and 10,000 plus tons trailing on the drawbar.
On heavier trains we can run two locos in multiple, yes. :) happens all the time
I love to hear your voice and watched you before you talked.
I had a friend in Brisbane Australia who worked freight trains but all he wanted to do was become a passenger train driver. So opposite to you. I believe the passenger train drivers earned more money. In the end I believe you should do what you love!
Your sarcasm is sharp and so witty. Good to know you’re an F1 driver for your real job. 😂👏🏻
Did I say F1-driver? I really meant astronaut 😂
Thanks!
Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️❤️ And thank you for being a member on my channel as well! ❤️❤️❤️
You are so welcome! Your videos are so awesome and the Bergen and Flåm lines are so beguiling in just about any season that all of your videos are interesting to us. And, we do have another question; will anyone ever do anything about moving that pile of gravel on top of the walkway in Voss where you still seem to have to detour around each time you go to fetch your train? Best regards from John and Jan (my wife) Smith in Oregon, USA. ❤️❤️❤️
In another video can you explain some of the track side signs? Also I think I have figured out the sign to sound the horn but other times you sound the horn for no obvious reason. BTW I visited Bodo way back in ~1979 for a couple of weeks but was working (and winter) so not much time to enjoy your beautiful country.
Yes, if you look in the video description of most of my videos, there's alink to signals. Also, if you look at the videos in the playlist Information Runs, you can find lots of info: ruclips.net/p/PLqVXtaI0Orw7ageOY4IQCpTQwYRmqryZI&si=wQ1N9JY7X2URqXVh
Who uncouples the locomotive from the train? I assume you have a ground person to help with the the shunting
I wish you did these talk streams more regular, they are so nice because I can hear your voice :D
I wish I could to them more regularly as well but when you're almost never home and your schedule is completely crazy, it becomes kind of hard. :(
We call Shunting switching in the US
I think I spotted two times where you didn’t sound your horn at diamond signs with the horizontal bars. Just before Dale at about the 3 hour mark and again a minute or two later. There must be a reason. I’ve never seen you make a mistake.
Also, what is in the small reddish sheds that are next to the tracks at intervals?
+ = Must sound the horn between 6am - 10pm. With other words, bo need to sound the horn between 10pm and 6am, unless needed
I had t realized that the rails themselves complete the circuit for your trains. Made me wonder if there was a way create a small resistance in the rails to keep them just above freezing so no snow would ever accumulate.
The train weighs so much that its just plow right through. US EMD SW1200 is 120 some tons. GE lcomotives are maybe over 200+
When you learninmg to drive a Train, you normaly are able to moving after 6 month. The next 9 month you are learning the law ond orders, what your right reaction in different situation. The laws are dificulter as moving a train.
Great.
Lot of people think the train can swerve also to avoid cars or trucks stuck on the track
Hello from East Pennslyvania
Great video, very nice recording 👍👍👍👌🙂
Thank you very much!
Hello from west Tennessee....
Hello from France ☀️
Hey RailCowGirl,
so i'm a student pilot and I got a question while watching this... do you guys also have some kind of "auto-pilot"? for either speed, or literally full control of the train? if yes, then are routes also programmed into a computer that the train follows?
Closest thing to autopilot is cruise control.
So nothing to manage speed reductions or increases automatically.
No vertical navigation for obvious reasons, hehehe
Hello all...Fort Worth, Texas USA here
Hey you asked me where my family was from in Norway. It’s Lillisen Norway.
great idea. Be on social media chatting to people while driving the train. Miss one signal and have a head on collision.....
FYI, it's not live... If you read the description you will get to know that it is not possible to live stream because of the lack of reception. Also, what do you think would happen if a person or animal was hit and I showed it live on YT? I would have been fired and my channel would have been shut down.
Who uncouples the locomotive from the train? I assume you have yard help to do the shunting.
Is the Bergen Line still state owned, but contracted out to a private company?
Man I want your job! Cheers from Pennsylvania. 😁🇳🇴
Thanks, glad you like it :)
RCG - is there a rail-line to Navrik? I was in the NATO area near there, and swore I saw a rail line. Have you ever driven on that?
Do you have a set streaming schedule??
Is it possible for so much snow to cover the track that it would compress under the wheels enough to raise the wheel enough to derail? Or does the “plow” section on the front keep that from happening?
Absolutely, but it really depends on the type of snow. One might think that snow is snow, but it really isn't. The type of snow is determined by so many factors.
Dense snow formed by drifts can become like "concrete" and lift trains off the track. There are some instances where this has happened, thankfully no one hurt or injured. And most thankfully, this does not happen often due to the awesome work the people on the snow readiness team does.
FWIW: Running a {freight} train with JUST YOU onboard sounds like a DREAM JOB...👍
It is! :)
@@RailCowGirl >>> 😊😊😊
@RailCowGirl >>> _THANK YOU_ for being bilingual. Your English is INFINITELY BETTER than my Norwegian...😉
Covfefe, girl you are awesome!
have u ever used EMDEC powered engine..i hv lots of questions regarding em2000
Sorry, I haven't.
Great videos and beautiful scenery! Great wolf habitat if only Norway would let wolves take greater occupancy of the vast wilderness.
Hello from Venice Florida US
Hello there! :)
Could this be anymore wholesome?
YES, IF she were simultaenously nursing her new born baby with candle light.
Just finally watching this episode, but what happens if someone just tried waving you down in the middle of nowhere ? Are you allowed to stop, or do you radio for help ?
Wave me down for what? And from where? Depending on the situation, We just call it in.
Apologies rail cow girl. 😂I meant if you see something suspicious ? Maybe a hiker is lost in the snow ?
At about 1:14.24, there's a link? Where the line goes to the right! Where does it go?
That secret is revealed in this video: ruclips.net/video/RkedIcqXXdw/видео.html ;)
God bless you...🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
Hello RCG - how are you? Leeds, England
2:37:30 is every waggon capable of stopping itself on the steepest gradient ? The consist planner calculating an average sounds complicated.
I guess waggons with the least spare brake capacity compared with their weight weight are positioned near the loco to take advantage of it's huge spare braking capacity and those with the most spare capacity at the back ? So if a coupling breaks every part of the consist can stop quickly.
❤ these insights!
At 2:41:49 That rock looks like it has a face on it... Lol, Love your stuff ... Be well, ✌
Thanks! :)
Greetings from Canada.
Welcome! Thanks for watching!
According to W'pedia, the Bombardier firm is no longer making locos. They seem to concentrate on airplanes, now.
That is because Alstom acquired that division. :)
@@RailCowGirl And for a time, there was a relationship between Alsthom and Alcatel, and for a time, I worked for Alcatel. But on telephony, not rolling stock.
