    Honestly, I just watched your video but I was very impressed because your instructions and explanation are very clear. Your video is also very easy to understand for beginners like me as you teach step by step carefully how to install led lights and how to make adjustments on the detolf for large scale action figures. Camera angles and lighting also I am very satisfied so it is easy for me to follow your instructions without hesitation.

    I just recently got back into Star Wars in June after a two year hiatus and I decided to give collecting Hot Toys a try this time around. Your video and this set-up was so straight forward and so easy to follow. Every other video was 20-30 minutes of dribble. I won’t be setting up a Detolf anytime soon since I only have pre-orders and don’t feel like playing catch up with already released figures but I’m looking forward to finally getting to set up my first display!

    • @PosingwithPeter

      Ayyy welcome back to the world of collecting Star Wars! You're in for a treat especially if you're a fan of Mando, tons of new figures announced this past week so it's a wonderful time to be a Star Wars / Hot Toys fan 🤑
      And thanks so much for your kind words! I'm really glad you found my video helpful / informative / time efficient. Indeed I remember watching some lengthy detolf videos when I first began my journey and I wanted to put something out there that was a bit more digestible, so I really appreciate your positive feedback 😊
      And for sure, no need to rush into buying the necessary components for a detolf if all you currently have are preorders. Heads up, the home depot lights that I used in this video are no longer available. I currently have a new set of LEUMAS Lights arriving in the coming weeks so I may put out an updated video showcasing those LEDs next month. Stay tuned, and thanks again for watching & commenting!

    as a first time detolf user as I started collecting azur lane/fgo figures. Dustproofing the detolf is a must. Specially if you have carpeted flooring.
    I had mine up just less than a week and even though I hoover the floor again and again. I still saw dust accumulating on the base of my figures.
    Now I have the brush pile installed (6mm high, 9mm width) you can literally line it at the edge of the glass on the hinge part of the door and then the rest of the sides just a line it on the magnetic plastic lock mechanism.
    Its now fully sealed! Thanks for sharing your video and advice!
    The brush pile is also sturdy enough that you can pull it back out if you wanted to reposition it without damaging the strip itself. Although just watch out when pulling the one's you installed on the base and top board cause it will strip the paint. Or install it lightly at first only. You can easily reinstall it and the glue on it still sticks.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  Год назад +1

      Nice! I’m really glad this video helped ya dust-proof your cabinets. Yeah I also had carpeted floors when I made this video so similar to you I would also notice dust build up pretty quickly prior to installing the weather strips.
      And I agree about the brush-style being the better choice… the foam strips weren’t strong enough to maintain their form/structure while applying onto the glass.
      But hey thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback & story! Happy collecting! 😁🙌

    Great ideal, wish I thought to do this a long time ago. One problem I did have was that the Frost King Weatherseal 3/16 was way to thin, was still big gaps. Would have to double it up to fill them in. I don't know if that has anything to do with how old my detolfs are tho (about 10 years old) and newer ones the gap is smaller. Going to get some of the 5/16 and I think that will work.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  Год назад

      Oh that’s interesting, I didn’t realize the gap between the glass door & side panels can vary but I guess that makes sense when it comes to a cabinet/product that’s mass produced. Yeah hopefully a larger set of weather strips helps fill the gap for ya.
      Either way I’m glad you found this video helpful ☺️ Thanks for watching!

    LukeLight System is the way to go hands down. A little pricey but they make the lighting system specifically for these cabinets. I bought a set and what a night and day difference and it is so much cleaner. You can't even notice the wiring or the zip ties because they match the cabinet rod colors. They are a bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  2 года назад

      Ah yeah I’ve heard great things about them too. I made this video back in 2019 before I knew of LukeLight (I think I had only known of Ikea’s dioder LEDs at that time). I do remember checking on LukeLight when I first heard about them but they were always sold out 😕 But I’ve seen pics of collections using their lights and indeed they look great.

    • @PosingwithPeter

      They are indeed CCFL lightsabers! I just route the wiring around/behind the figure (sometimes on the ground of the shelf) then zip-tie it vertically along the metal frame of the detolf and out the topside of the glass door where a surge protector sits on top of the cabinets ☺️

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  2 года назад

      Hey there! I prefer the brush-style since it’s more rigid/sturdy and tends to keep more dust out during my years of use, plus it’s easier to align when installing on the long side panels compared to the soft foam.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  2 года назад +1

      Damn that’s a bummer! I suppose you can try reaching out to the manufacturer to see if they offer replacement parts since I think they have a 2 year warranty. But if you’re looking for a more immediate-fix, then buying a whole new pack isn’t such a bad idea especially if they’re still available in your area - it doesn’t hurt to have a spare set of LEDs readily available in case any of your current ones begin to turn yellow.

    • @PosingwithPeter

      Ohh nah, for the 5 cabinets I just routed the LEDs in reverse so that the power cables/switches all run along on top instead. I have a power-strip surge protector sitting on the top left corner of my 5 cabinets that's kinda hidden behind the statues & figures on top, and all the lighting is connected to that so the cabinets have a more seamless aesthetic.

      My pleasure! And yeah many collectors have been using wire rope clips for years and haven’t had any issues with the shelves giving out - just gotta make sure they’re securely tightened to support the weight of the figures.
      It’s worth mentioning that there are longer plastic shelf clips on eBay - they’re more supportive than wire rope clips but not as subtle since they’re larger.
      Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

    This is amazing, thank you for this informative video. I have however a question, don’t figures need to breath ? I mean, if we close the detolfs just like how you showed in the video, will the figure still be able to breath ? I’m talking for example about figures made with pleather, a lot of people tell me that it’s bad to keep these figures in boxes and to not let them breath. That’s why I was thinking if it could be a problem to have a figure totally sealed from dust. Do you think that one could have problems even with this way ? Thank you really much ! Amazing video.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  Год назад +1

      Aw thanks so much for watching and for asking a thorough question!
      It’s a valid concern - as it happens the detolf doesn’t become air tight when using the dust-proof weather strips since there’s a small hole in the wooden roof on top, and also a slight gap at the sides of the door. Using the weather strips helps keep dust and pet hair (larger particles) out of the cabinet but the figures are still able to breathe just fine especially when compared to keeping them in the box long periods… doing that can sometimes damage the figure depending on the climate (heat/humidity) that they’re stored in since the plastic wrap & protective clamshell are directly touching the figure (like meat in a sandwich) so moisture from the air (if humid) can ruin a figure’s pleather in that sense.
      Hope that helps, and thanks again for watching / commenting! 😊

      Not much at all, barely even noticeable but I suppose it depends on the thickness of the dust proof strip that you buy. I’ve had these lights on my detolfs for probably close to 2 years now. When I got them, they seemed like a brighter white but not so cool that they look blue-ish like some do (I’d call it daylight white). After a couple years of running them 6-8 hours a day about 5 days a week, the lighting seems almost yellow/warm now. I’m adding more detolfs to my collection but am debating about switching the lighting to something else. Have yours yellowed at all?

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 года назад +2

      Ahh yeah some (but not all) of mine turned a bit yellow so I had to buy a couple new packs. Upon noticing the slight change in color, I did some research and learned that LEDs in general can lose their luminosity and color-grade from 2 main things: overheating and long-term usage (often a combination of both).
      Although LEDs are far more energy efficient and operate at a safer temperature compared to halogen, LEDs still emit (and sometimes trap) heat within their plastic casing which can ultimately speed up the process of their color degradation -- doesn't matter it's soft & pliable like the Home Depot strips or hard rigid plastic like IKEA Dioders... if it's housed in some kind of protective casing then it's possible it could turn more yellow overtime.
      Generally the LEDs that are least likely to turn yellow are the long rolls / spools of LEDs that don't have any sort of protective casing, but the downside to those is less protection and they require manual cutting & wiring of each strip. The LEDs from Home Depot and IKEA are ideal for newcomers to the hobby which is what this video was mostly targeted at since it's a pretty straight forward setup, no wire cutting or soldering needed. However at this point, more seasoned collectors like you and I might need to switch to something a little more customized 😅
      What's weird is that not all of mine turned yellow, only a few so it's also possible there could've been a manufacturing defect in some of the strips that were sold during a certain period. Your guess is as good as mine.
      Either way lemme know what you decide to do, albeit buy more sets like I did or switch to a new method. Thanks for watching & commenting! ☺️

      @@PosingwithPeter thanks for the detailed reply! So, I’ve done more research into this and there’s a company called Luke Light that makes custom lightstrips for detolfs. I’ve contacted them and they have informed me that their lightstrips have no protective rubber/plastic barrier over the LEDs, so they should not have the same issue of turning yellow over time. Also seems like a better product anyway, since they have some kind of transparent wire designed to blend into the detolf better. Price seems about the same as Home Depot and other alternatives, so I think I may give that a try.

I took a peek at their website/products -- I like how their LED strips are USB-powered... it allows for alternate power options rather than making it a proprietary power adapter. Also if the shelves are rattling upon opening the door, inspect each glass shelf to see if they’re too sitting close to the large side panels. My detolfs also rattled whenever opening/closing the door until I simply realigned each shelf to have proper spacing on all sides away from the sides and back panels. Hope that helps!

      Hmm I think that depends on how much of the weather seal is included in the package - sometimes they come in rolls of 15 ft, sometimes more or less. To be certain I’d recommend measuring the total length of all 4 sides for 1 detolf, then multiply by 2 since you have 2 detolfs. Once you’ve got the exact measurement in length for both detolfs, you can then determine how many packages you’ll need 👍

      In regards to his (and similarly your) situation of having gaps between the door, I'd recommend realigning the glass door by loosening the screws on the metal hinge that keep the door in place, then adjust the door by sliding it over left/right so it's centered enough to not leave any gaps between the foam. However if that doesn't work / if there are gaps on all sides, then ya might need thicker measurement of foam (is it possible that they were applied to the panels too far back away from the door?)

Do you still have the packaging? I wonder if Amazon accidentally sent you the smaller one, cause this video has been hosted on a few RUclips channels since 2019 and you're the first person to suggest that it was the wrong size. Also it's worth mentioning that there's still gonna be a very tiny gap between the brush and glass door depending on a couple factors like how far back you've placed the stripping along the side panel, or if the door is aligned at the hinge that holds the door in place. Also a small gap is necessary for the door to have enough clearance to swing outwards.
      If it's any consolation, I hope you're able to return/exchange it for a refund or Amazon credit -- their customer service is usually pretty good.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 года назад

      Thanks! And there are ways to combine 2 detolfs together to be stacked side-by-side so they can form a wider double-detolf. You gotta disassemble the whole cabinet, then buzz-saw the wood panels for top and bottom on 2 detolfs so they can be evenly bolted together without having a large gap running down the middle. I think there are posts on Reddit for that kind of custom work.

      Ohh ok I think I understand - it sounds like you’re having trouble fitting the foam strip on the right side of your glass door since the gap between the door and gray metal frame is too small.
      I’m just curious, are you trying to install the foam strip without removing the glass door? If so, I’d highly recommend removing the glass door temporarily since it’s much easier to apply the foam weather strip. Also you’ll be able to realign the glass door afterwards by making small adjustments left or right to allow for proper clearance so the door can swing open/close easily once it’s adjusted.

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  2 года назад

      Apologies for the delayed reply!
      I suppose it depends on how you plan on lining your display with LEDs. Most people tend to only light up each shelf, and each shelf is about 15 inches across so I guess 4-5 feet is more than enough. But I’ve also seen some people line their detolfs vertically with LED strips which I wouldn’t know how much you’d need.

    What did you find better the foam or weather strip?

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  Год назад +1

      I prefer the brush weather strip since the adhesive-side is more firm/rigid, it was very easy to install and the brush allows the glass door to open easier. Meanwhile the foam was too flimsy while applying to the glass so it was difficult lining it up to be straight.

      If you’re linking them from the bottom like I did, then it should look something like this:
      Wall Outlet > Power Adapter with switch > Short cable extender > LED STRIP 1 > Long Connector > LED STRIP 2 > Long Connector that splits > LED STRIP 3 > Long Connector > LED 4

    Tried the weather seals on my detolfs couple months back and it seems quite effective. There's a little bit of dust on the top shelves but still pretty good I guess.
    The only problem is that my detolfs were already fully installed when I thought of dustproofing them, so I couldn't apply the weather seals on the door hinge side. Tried to stick them in there somehow, but eventually settled with just 3 sides dustproofed. Any ideas on how to seal this side off with the door on?

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 года назад +1

      Ahhh yeah, I made this video back in 2019 so the statement "I've never once had to dust off my figures" is a bit outdated & inaccurate these days 😅 Like you, a little dust has gotten in here and there, but fortunately I've only had to lightly clean the shelves while the figures themselves remain fairly clean.
      Regarding your detolf situation, the door can easily be removed if you have someone at home to assist -- just loosen both sets of screws on the metal hinges that hold the glass door in place while another person carefully holds the glass door to prevent it from sliding off or falling to the ground. Once those screws are loosened, you can slide the entire door out (be sure to catch the top metal hinge -- it'll simply fall once you slide the glass door out). Then you can apply your weather seal as needed before reinstalling the door 👍

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 года назад

      Yeah, I'd have preferred it if all the connectors were the same but I suppose it's nice for those who need a Y-splitter to have the option included. I just use the zip-ties to securely mount it to the metal frame and hide it as best as possible.

      @@PosingwithPeter which level did you put the y connector on?

    • @PosingwithPeter
      @PosingwithPeter  3 года назад +1

      Hmm I can't really specify which shelf / level I used the Y-cable since that depends on whether the entire LED set is routed through the top or bottom, but here's a breakdown of how I connect them in order:
      Power adapter with on-off switch > short 3-inch connector > LED 1 > long connector > LED 2 > Y-splitter > LED 3 > long connector > LED 4
      The Y-splitter can technically be used anywhere after LED 1, but that's just how I have mine hooked up. The zip-ties help keep all the connectors flush & hidden behind the detolf's metal frame for the most part.
      Hope that helps!

      Hmm at 3:02 video shows that I hid the main power cable underneath the detolf, then routed the whole chain of LEDs & wiring along the metal frame in a snake-like fashion.
      If you're using the exact same LED brand that I used then hopefully this map of the cables will help:
      Power adapter with on/off switch > short wire > LED-1 > long wire > LED-2 > long wire > LED 3 > long wire > LED-4
