20 miles round trip, that's earning what looked like an epic day. Thanks for taking us along.
Definitely not Crystal lake in the Gore Range lmaooo
Abouttrouts smirk at the “9mi” remark 🤣
Huge Flyfisherman, guide of the year.
James, great intro shot of you chugging a beer with a fish on and those peaks in the background. That just about sums up the beauty of fly fishing. Great video as always fellas. Dan
It's about time. Seems like you have been doing most of the guiding lately. Doesn't look like he made sandwiches or packed fried chicken did he? If not did he even fulfill his guide duties?
It’s like y’all are fishing in a Huge postcard, after a Huge hike. Beautiful place..Beautiful fish! Great filming. Thanks for the brief vacation from this Texas heat. 👍👍 🎣
It’s the kind of place you wouldn’t even be mad if you didn’t catch a fish. Gorgeous.
Awsome film. My favourite one yet 😉
I can see them bc i remembered my sunglasses! Dude you have me rolling! 😂😂😂
Great video. Looks like such a fun place to fish.
Awesome Ben nice fish 👍🛶🎏🇺🇲 The Vermonter
Awesome beer belch!...it's those personal touches that really help the viewer connect, helps the viewer feel like "hey, i could be a fly fisherman too".........Namaste'
We have tons of those lakes near us in western colorado! (ouray/telluride area) I'll have to make the hike and try it out!
Awesome Video! great fish
Thanks for telling us where ! Not that I’ll ever be there but even if it was more vague, I still kinda like knowing
I fish an alpine lake in Switzerland, I know the feeling of having a fish charge and then circle and then refuse a fly over and Over again. I couldn’t go this year bc if COVID. So thanks for a Great vid!!!
That place is sick. So pretty and serious fish!
You and James should come out to the Sierras Nevada's for the real goldens. Have you ever, had fish make you shiver in your waders?
NEVER SAY THE "W" WHEN FLY FISHING.....FORBIDDEN 🚫 WORD.....🧐....🤣🤣🤣
Nice to someone else doing right retrieve- the right way!!
Great stuff!
Wow, nice fish!
Caught some very nice CRCT's down in the Fossil Ridge Wilderness many years ago!
Beautiful cutts! Can you leave a link to their channel next time?
Nice one dude
Could save a little weight in your pack by switching to the BRS stove and a tokes titanium 650ml cook pot. Thanks for another awesome video. 👍
He forgot his sunglasses pro guide move! Lmfao!
Thích lắm anh ơi, cần của anh đẹp quá
Pretty sure the technical term is “cuttie”
nice content super cool thanks
Borderline obnoxious but I could not stop laughing!
Love it! I subscribed
Order completed !! My Husband watches you every Saturday and Sunday morning and we both find your content entertaining ! A HUGE CHEERS TO YOU ! ❤️PBR
Great vid Ben - another gem you’ve brought us! Did anyone else notice that the cap on the right side of your reel is missing at about minute 7:15?
I noticed it when I got home. Good eye.
Should try Mystic Lake near Bozeman, MT. Full of cutthroats and some good size. Caught a nice 27" Cut on a hopper. There is a cabin on the lake that you can rent from the Nat Forest Service out of Bozeman.
Great video!!! I’m interested in that jacket James was wearing. What brand??
I need to know. What is the net about trout was using at 11:02
I found your spot Huge Fly Fish Man!
"stand up tall! Don't look like a ***********"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What time of year do the higher lakes unthaw?
What flies do you like to use for lake fishing ?
I wish I could do this but I live in the east where we don't have that and I also am not much of a hiker or a camper.
If the release is the only problem, 🎶 today was a good day 🎶
Switch to a dragonfly Ben! Neon blue!
What weight rod or alpine lakes?
Are those westslope?
Hey can we get a video on why fly fishers think there better than spin fisherman might be fun.
Fly fishermen are better than spin fishermen because they know how to spell they're.
@@redchaserron I'm a fly fisherman just can't spell that good so dont judge a book buy its cover.
@@lukebonagurio4503 Now you’re just making us look bad. 😂

@@hansolo6595 so what dont hurt my feelings
Is this the Crystal Lake that’s just south of Breck or is this north of i70? I’ve been to that one south of Breck, but I think it might be different than the one in the video. Not exactly sure where the gore range technically ends.
What flies and tippet would you throw?
Epic fishing day!
You mentioned crystal lake. Is this the Crystal Lake near Breckinridge?
That’s what I’m wondering lol!
It is not, no trees around Crystal lake near Breck, and there is no formally named lake by this name in the gore range, he is giving bad info, not even sure if this is Colorado.
@@mattspringer8707 It's Colorado. Ben doesn't give out the true names of these places, but he was honest about it being in CO.
Trying to plan a trip out there? Where does one start? Need some directions. Do we start a red fish lake? Is there another access point?
Start at the Rattlesnake Creek trailhead.
Nothing kills casting like lunch...
where is that?
Thanks for the chilly video. It's 95 here today
That was nice, I killed it on a Caddis dry yesterday in the RMNP
Hike back should be quick, no beer weight! Awesome video man!
I took note of your alpine lake video and tried it out at a beauty up in Washington near Rainier. Caught several very small cutthroats, but I had issues with the highly sloped banks. I lost several flies on the back casts catching grass/thistles (was using 5x and 6x tippet) and was forced to only cast shallowly down the shore line. Do you have any suggestions? I'm tempted to invest in a packable spinning rod, but there are few pleasures in life better than seeing a strike on a dry fly...
A good roll cast helps a lot. Finding a different lake that’s better for casting would help even more
Did you guys stay overnight?
Hey bens In my part of the state I fish by Silverthorne and in the gore range area just wish I could head up to those lakes I’m just the only person in my family willing to hike more than 3 miles to go fishing
Five stars. Those were some big cutthroats.
👍
Durr , I found it 👍
Hey brother I know this is a old video but I want to plan my first overnight camp and catch at a alpine lake that is open to camping, last year I went to the James peak area by the continental divide and caught some nice cutthroats. U have any suggestions on a place I can do this?
I don't think he would hotspot his favorite lakes, but the mountain of the holy cross wilderness has some really good alpine lakes. lmk if you want me to email you specifics
Heineken! F____ that s___! Pabst Blue Ribbon!
Okay, I just saw two guys hike 9 miles (15KM) one way to drink beer at the edge of a lake. Incredible. Question: If I get James as a guide, how many beers is he obligated to carry for me and how far?
7 at base rate then $8 per beer per mile .
@@AboutTrout Thanks man, I'll look at coming in under budget by drinking on the way.....
@@mattdoesflyfishing go for the tall boys. Notice he broke it down by quantity of beers, not by volume. You gotta watch out for these guides or they'll screw you.
Pro Tip here guys!
could you reveal the flies!!!
He said the W word :((((
what's in your hand at 9:50?
Floatant. I was using it as hair gel.
did you lose your gear cap screw on ya reel mate???
Yep. Good eye. They sent me a new one though.
I am a very visual Ozzie..., you are a very excitable talkative dude, ya gotta stay huGE.
Funny how one can't get a decent cast out when the line is wrapped. 3:46
Im loving on your shirts and hats ( i looked on your channel but nothing ?) could you send me the link so i can buy something COOL for my HUGE FLY FISHING 🎣 HUBS !
How do you carry your net? I'm convinced it's impossible.
I think I saw you the other day and I asked you what your using and you kinda yelled at me :)
I don’t recall that happening recently.
Huge Fly Fisherman ok well then I don’t think it was you prob some random person
Do you hike 10 miles in wader boots? If yes what model?
Yes. Orvis Pros. I don’t recommend it for everyone, though.
I don't think the model matters as much as they should be neoprene.
@@HugeFlyFisherman pros=only for guides
Where???
It is clearly stated at the beginning of the video.
This is the most huge video you’ve ever made...
Love catching cutthroats. Colorado River or greenbacks?
Ooops! You mentioned they were Colorado River cutthroats.
The dude who disliked this video sits down to pee
Just curious why do you cast right handed but you reel is right hand retrieve? Guessing its just the Huge thing to do.
There is a huge misconception around which way is the correct way to rig a reel. The answer is that the reel needs to be spooled for the hand that is best at implementing vigorous up and down or circular motion for short periods of time. There wont be any debate in your mind about which is the correct hand.
^^^ This is the best explanation I’ve ever heard. Spot on.
@@mattdoesflyfishing didn't necessarily think It was the wrong way. Lots of guys to the same thing with baitcasters. I guess I have been doing left hand retrieve for so long that I am better with my left
@@JoshTalbert Yeah i know I just wanted to post a comment that suggested which hand is Ben's good hand;-)
Which hand would you bet on to draw 200+ perfect circles against variable amounts of resistance? Most fly fishers have only voluntarily put a fish on the reel, but any fish that can pull line out against drag will also create resistance against your reel hand, too. When you graduate from sunfish and spring creek troots, you find this out. Some people resist, some people learn the lesson and adapt
Jealous!
personal rule: dry only above 9000 feet!
Hey heyyy HEEEY....casting with a right hand and reeling in with left? What is up with that....???
Definitely don't come to Idaho, it's not huge enough for you here. Also, be sure not to hit me up before you don't come around.
10 mile walk, no extra sunglasses and you bring PBR?! L a m e... (I know, Chevy vs. Ford, blah, blah blah.)
Lucky your company and scenery stayed huge
best thing about pbr is when its warm and flat still tastes the same
19? Try 17" there pal
I meant pounds. 19 pounds.
I would like to call attention to this blatant misinformation campaign. There is nothing this beautiful in Colorado, nor are there any native cutthroats. Or lakes. Or water of any kind. For fishing. Huge you sit on a throne of lies...
Looked terrible. Zero fun
