Conclusion, Christian Smith is defining young liberal CHRISTIANS and not young liberal DEISTS. -- Christian Smith is the Noah Webster of the 21st Century, using biased sources like the bible and the federalist papers to define words and teach us about his world view of morality, rather than go to the deists of his day (Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Payne, etc.) to create an accurate definition of what a Deist is.
Deists also believe that God could care less about people behave, and we reject -ALL- world religions and the bible. -- Morality is relative and a Deist would define morality the exact same way an Atheist would define it.
What is being described here in this video is of "lesser-observant/iberal/cultural Christians"...not Deists. If someone believes in Jesus and identifies as Christian, whether or not this-or-that doctrine of some fanatic ultra-orthodox doctrine says otherwise...then they are a Christian in my book and shouldn't be relabeled. I think it is very degrading to tell people what they are or not and what they must think. -- And for the record, I am a Deist, and this is not Deism at all.
Good analysis of our context. Thanks for this teaching.
Nice bright teaching.

Sorry but this guy missed it. He is not describing MTD as much as he is just ranting.
This is more about secularized Christianity than deism...
