As a Catholic, I respect that you're touching on this topic and I really hope more Protestant voices identify this problem and address it. It's a problem that we Catholics are dealing with ourselves, predominantly amongst cradle Catholic families who neglect catechesis.

Amen... I just got confirmed in the church this easter. I met dozens of catholics who were amazed at my Bible knowledge. I was in RCIA at the time and it was hosted by the grandmother of a huge Italian family. Their kids go to a protestant christian school and were dealing with a tremendous amount of scrutiny from the protestant teachers.
The teacher assigned the the kids to do a report on their specific eschatologies. The poor catholic kids couldn't really articulate their eschatology, any of them. They were telling me how embarrassing it was for them and how my RCIA director didn't really have an answer for them. She said well maybe we can't explain it as well as the protestants but we can still have faith.
I stopped her and showed her in our RCIA booklet they have a whole section on it. They had never heard the word eschatology before, I found what I could in the catechism for them and showed them some links to catholic answers talking about it. They were so happy to find that our faith does make sense. They got into apologetics from there and Now those kids started a catholic Bible study club at the school and the teachers are all for it. Good story for everybody.

Here in Chile I see it all the time. Older generations believe in God but don’t go to mass, they turn to witches so they can solve their problems, and talk about zodiac signs. I am 25 years old and recently converted, but I have never felt like my family, who went to catechesis and have been praying for a long time, can guide me correct me in the faith, since they barely talk about God aside from cultural expressions related to Him.
I see what that does to their soul, they are slowly losing faith… but I wonder, how are you going to remain faithful if you don’t get closer to God through the word or communion? It’s sad, because I don’t know how to reach them, I feel like their hearts are hardened. And I understand why, they’ve had a difficult life.
I know works won’t save them, only faith. But faith without works is dead, and they refer to people that follow the word of God as fanatics. :( Which makes me feel like I can’t live my faith truthfully without being referred as an extremist. I do either way, but it doesn’t stop me from feeling a little bad and alone.
      God bless you. 🙌🏻

What you said about Norway is very true. I'm pretty sure most people who go to church here only go to it because it's a social thing. I'm the only teenager who goes to my church and it feels really weird sometimes, the other Christians my age don't even go to church, they usually just either work for the church or go to the youth group meetings at the mission. Some of my friends say it's odd that i am so strong in my faith when the other Christians they know aren't.

That is basically the exact same here in Poland. Something like 85% identify as Catholic but of these only around 40% are "practicing" meaning they go to church regularly, they pray, they partake the sacraments, etc. The other 60% are saying they're Catholic when they're not and only do so bc being Catholic is the status quo, it is "the base line", the "norm", and they only do so bc they were dragged into it by their parents who also weren't really Catholic but identified as such bc their parents did and so on. If you went around the country and collected data on what people ACTUALLY believe, not what they declare in the population census, it'd be a very similar story to this study in the US. Most people here are incredibly ignorant to the actual theology of what they claim to believe, to the point where the overwhelming majority of them haven't even read the bible and don't know what's actually in it, and that is despite religion being part of the schooling program from elementary school all the way to high school.

    1. Liberalism is God
    2. All men are created equal
    3. Advance progress; don't question it
    4. Break old traditions and reverse every role
    5. The ultimate goal in life is the pursuit of pleasure

As a Christian and lifelong artist, I look at the intricate creation found in every corner of the globe. There's so much beauty, logic, and diversity in nature. When you're an artist, your creations are personal. Your characters, worlds, and things you've drawn are beloved! Why would God put insurmountable care into Earth, much less the universe, and then forget about it?

Nah... you're onto something. I'm an artist myself. I draw portraits for a specialty. When you get deep down into the details of what makes a person unique, it always feels like you're making something ugly but you ride out this balance until you get there. Making beauty in our imperfections is another link artists share with the lord. I'm sure of it.... kind of like God creating and at every step, stopping and saying it is good. Somewhat redundant, you'd think if God made it, he wouldn't have to give his opinion as well. Still it shows that he reflects.... thinks about what he has made.

Chesterton wrote in Orthodoxy that his contemporaries say that religions around the world differ really only in their rites, but the content remains relatively the same. He objected this very elegantly, if I may say so myself. Religions are pretty similar in rites. Where they differ wildly is in the contents. And Christianity stands out for being the only non-merit-based religion in the world.
In catholic religion class over here in Germany, where we don't really learn anything about Catholicism, I held a presentation on St. Augustine's Confessions for my yearly GFS (an oral exam in the form of a presentation). I got a good enough grade, but the reason why my teacher didn't give me a better one, and these are her words, was because my presentation was too theological. I guess my audience wasn't prepared for that much theology at once, but come on, it's Augustine, and I condensed it a l o t. Besides, I had the feeling that nobody was going to mention these theological principles to those poor students if I didn't do it myself, since I'm the only one in my whole school that I know has read the Confessions or any Christian book (like Screwtape Letters, which would never be published today) for that matter.
As you said, we shouldn't simply complain about how bad modern times are and how we need to go back to the middle ages, but I add to it. I say we need to be crusaders today, so that the Kingdom of God may reach the farthest corners of the globe.

8:55 This part really spoke to me:
"God put you here for a reason."
That one's sufferings, the evil they endured or witnessed others endure, and everything else, has the potential to be redeemed by God's golden touch--
    It's remarkable and beautiful.
It invigorates my will, and inspires me to find meaning in the toil and find beauty in the everyday,
to God's glory and for my own benefit,
and not merely so that I alone may gain,
but so that others might benefit too, if possible.
The Gospel is about so much more than just being a good person.
Heaven is not some place where "good people" go.
    It's where redeemed people go.
    And it's where God is.
(P.S. we certainly cannot go back to the good old days.
But we can work to create a better future.
    God bless all of you.)

This is also the main religion here in Spain, and we actually have good cathequism, but the thing is that actually not much kids go to sunday school, even when I was a kid (late 2000s to 2010s) like half of the kids in my small town went to it, and then a good part of them (including myself until recently) ended up becoming moralist terapeuthcal deists or agnostics or whatever, I think that the problem here is due to two factors, the overpolitization of Catholicism during the francoist dictatorship, wich after it ended meant a hard turn left for the country and a general dislike in the youngest (at the time) for Catholicism (basically the only mainstream religion here); and second is the problem that here the economy has went downhill from the late 90s and especially the 2008 crisis, so most people work so much that they become easily targeted by hedonistic propaganda to cope with the hardships of life, but luckily younger generations are starting to turn away from leftism, then its only matter of time until the Church does something (I believe that after Pope Francis it will return to be more assertive), its kinda sad depending on Rome for direction, but here there is basically nothing more, you can find some evangelical churches here and there, but they are mostly used by gypsies, and the gypsies usualy want to be left alone

This might surprise you, but despite disagreeing with you on a lot of matters of faith (to the point I believe you'd call several of my core beliefs heresies), I very much enjoy your content. I'm not a Christian, and if I was, I certainly wouldn't be Presbyterian. I think I'd be somewhere between Methodist and Baptist (though I love me a nice Catholic Cathedral).
I am, however, much much a deist. But despite that, I actually found myself agreeing with a lot of what you say in this video about God (though less so about Jesus); especially the idea that modern religion is struggling because it doesn't offer anything secular society doesn't. I've actually thought about the need for another Great Awakening, to combat the incredibly pessimistic brand of liberalism that are quickly becoming akin to religious beliefs in modern America.
I do believe in a God, though I believe in a God that is very much a mystery to humans. We can often understand only What He does, but not Why He does it, and much of what we know about God comes from interpreting what He must be like based on what He does (ex: God punishes Evil, so He must be Good). I don't so much believe in the idea that He isn't actively involved in the world, at least in the manner of MTD. God isn't just watching us in silent judgement, but He definitely also isn't going to make that girl you liked in sixth grade talk to you, let alone something like prosperity theology. He's not going to help you miraculously pass your math test, because we must accept the consequences for your actions. You didn't study for the test, so you'll fail it (there's a metaphor for life there).
God set things in motion, and knows definitively what He wants the world to be like, but it is our job on Earth to achieve that plan. That is why we're here: To undergo the trials of sin and temptation to, ultimately, return to God more like Him than when we came to Earth. That most of us fall short of perfection is okay, thanks to God's Grace.
He is the one judging us, and He wants us to pass the test (though that's not to imply He passes those that don't deserve it), so a grade of less than 100% is still a passing grade. That might FEEL like evil, to us, from our mortal perspective, but it's no more evil than a parent punishing a child for doing wrong. I know I didn't like my parents much when they punished me as a kid, but as an adult, I can see that I was being pretty shitty. I think that this is a big part of the answer to the doubt you had as a kid about whether God was good or evil (at least, from this probable-heretic's perspective, as you seem to come to the conclusion God is Good all on your own).
When you would say "we're all bad people", I'd say "we're all imperfect people", but that being imperfect doesn't necessarily make us bad (though perfection is the goal).
I don't believe in justification by faith (per se), but I do believe in justification by grace (as previously stated) and justification by works. There are absolutely going to be atheists, who lived godly lives despite not believing in Him, who will be rewarded. God is God; he does not NEED our worship any more than he needs our presence. He simply ENJOYS it.
I don't, however, believe that God will punish any of the faithful; but only because I believe that truly having faith in God requires you to be as good a person as you can be, and good people do good things (justification by works). If the goal is to become more like God, we must live as virtuous a life as possible, and I define "virtue" as "living in accordance with the law of God" in opposition to "sin", which is obviously "living in opposition with the law of God". God created us because He is Good, and Good wants to create more Good in the universe. But in order to make Good, God had to give us Free Will, because there is no Good that is not chosen. Goodness is an action. Just not being Evil is not enough to become like God.
Of the three descriptors, I think "therapeutic" is the least apt descriptor for me. I suppose I'm just a moralistic deist. God COULD help you directly, but a teacher helping you on a test defeats the point of the test. So He helps us indirectly, by teaching us what is virtuous and what is sinful, and always pushing us in the right direction.
I do, however, agree with you that the gnostics take this waaaaaaay too far. The goal of life here on Earth is to become more like God, but the way to do that is by making the world a more Godly place, not by escaping it. We CHOSE to come here, to become more like God, so why would the goal be to escape it? That'd be like leaving your house, just so you could enter it, so you could be in your house. This world is not inherently evil, any more than any other creation of God is. WE naturally create our own spiritual tests by virtue of being imperfect beings. Temptation is not created by God, but by humans. He gave us the tools we need to avoid it, but ultimately it is up to us to employ them. Most humans do not, so the world is (currently) a very sinful place, but it needn't (and, more importantly, SHOULDN'T) be. I think that this is the other part of the answer to the doubt you had as a kid about whether God was good or evil (at least, from this probable-heretic's perspective, as you seem to come to the conclusion God is Good all on your own).
I don't think we exactly NEED to go to a church, but a good church can be one of the best tools to living a virtuous life. I COULD walk from NYC to LA, but I SHOULD take a plane. We don't NEED to do ANYTHING, except for ultimately accepting the spiritual and worldly consequences for our thoughts and deeds. But there's absolutely stuff we should do, whether because it's the right thing to do or just because it's a good idea. Justification is POSSIBLE without a good church, but it becomes much more likely with it.
I define good in much the same way the founding fathers did. The founding fathers were pretty decent by the standards of their times, but they were nowhere near perfect, or even really living up to their own ideals. Many clearly knew that slavery was wrong, but owned slaves anyway for the economic benefit. A truly good person would reject the evil of slavery, even if it meant being less wealthy.
Much like the founding fathers themselves, I believe the vast majority of humans today fall far, far short of these incredibly lofty ideals. Some of them might even be impossible for imperfect humans in an imperfect world to actually achieve, but that that fact is absolutely no reason to not try as hard as possible to achieve them anyway. At least as far as that is concerned, I totally agree with Jesus. Be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect. We are the children of God, and if we are His children, then we must be capable of becoming like Him. We might only be capable of this once we enter Heaven and are justified and sanctified by His Grace, but we must be capable of it in some way.
I do think pretty much every real religion gets SOME things right about God. But not every religion, or even every sect of a single religion, gets an equal amount right. I think I think even you could agree with this, even if it's only because there are some instances where other religions agree with Christianity on a given topic. Even within Christianity, you'd say Catholics are correct about the Trinity, even if they're wrong about transubstantiation. I CLEARLY disagree with you on A LOT, but I do think there's some stuff we could see eye to eye on (even if you think I ultimately am preaching a false religion). Heck, I agreed with pretty much all of your 95 theses on reforming the PCUSA.
We're all working to discover the same spiritual truths, but while some people discover heliocentrism, others "discover" geocentrism. But just because a false religion discovers heliocentrism doesn't mean they're right about everything. It means they're right about heliocentrism.
We agree that the church needs to teach about sin and salvation, and that it is ultimately no one's fault but their own that they sinned, and that we're the problem with the world. I like your analogy of the doctor to explain how much religious knowledge every individual needs.
Anyway, feel free to tell me all the different heresies I'm spouting in your Christian minecraft server.

I remember one of our church families (or closely related) put together 6 different catechism books (called Covenantal Catechism Book 1-6) and for 8 or so years (we would go over some several times) you would go thru those books as a kid and then after that do the Belgic Confession and finish with Hidelberg catechism then take profession of faith classes with the pastor then become a member of the church. I think developed countries in general are moving towards either atheism or a vague deist concept of God because when you're provided for and sheltered and there is stability, people will be less likely to turn to organized religion to fulfill themselves.
Now imagine living in an unstable region where nothing is certain and life's necessities are fickle. You'll be much more likely to turn to organized religion for comfort, fulfillment, guidance, etc. It makes sense when you see all the parts of the Bible talking about enduring trials and suffering.
Desperation, scarcity, and fear beget things like nationalism and tribalism. Religion has been used to both of those ends.
As an atheist my biggest gripe is that with organized religion, I'm supposed to take man's word (churches, councils, creeds) for what God is and what God wants me to do. I've prayed to no avail so far but I'm certainly open to knowing a God if he does in fact exist and interact with humans.

Most people who are opposed to it don't really understand history very well, because here in Germany or Western Europe in general the leftists got cultural hegemony in the 60's through the march in the institutions. It's one of the most tragic things to happen to Europe, but it proves that hijacking is 100% useful and often times used by enemies. I understand that people have different opinions of which denomination is right, but converting to Orthodoxy for example to flee from wokeness won't do anything for a collevtive spiritual change in your Country. It's just isolation (which is understandable, but useless for society as a whole)

However, with the decline of Christianity/religion in America it will be interesting to see what new type of morality/ethics will spur people on. Maybe something along the line of Stoicism or some secular-progressive revision/incorporation of Christian ethics. As a person who studies religion and is looking deeply into the decline of religion in America it will be interesting to see what a truly post-Christian America will look like by the dawn of the 22nd century.

Read the Bible, one of the plain versions like ESV or NIV. You can start with the gospels, Genesis, or Romans. Pray every morning and/or every evening, join a Bible study, listen to hymns, watch more of RZ's vids. Those are just a few ideas. God bless you on your journey ✝️🤍

12:47 You know what annoys me? It's that 99%of the believers at the church I attend don't care about Biblical School at all, and then, when CPAD (acronym for Publishing House of the Assemblies of God in Portuguese) started to write about culture wars at the lessons, people suddenly started to attend like they would actually know anything about culture wars.
The Biblical School teacher does teach the theological nuances of different views on the Second Coming of Christ, on Predestination (we have an Arminian view), but it ends up messing with things like the worlds hedonism and the deconstruction of masculinity and feminility. Or maybe it's just my mind that is a mess.

The statement about the Talmud isn't accurate. The Talmud's purpose isn't to "fill in the gaps" so to speak. It's a book of case law essentially applying the law of the Torah, and the reason why Christians don't have something like the Talmud is because following Mosaic law is theologically irrelevant to Christianity because of salvation through Jesus.
Also for anyone wondering what the Jewish interpretation of Isaiah 53 is, Isaiah 53 simply falls between Isaiah 52 and Isaiah 54 which is speaking about the Children of Israel as a whole in the singular. You're free to disagree, but to act like it's just a silly extrapolation Jews made in to go out of their way to deny Jesus is rather silly and is pretty ignorant of Judaic Theology, something that most Christians should try to at least be familiar with.

Where the US failed in its founding was the use of liberal ideology. Our nation shouldn't have been about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It should've instead been more intent on following God, not ourselves. I love this country, but the reason it's the way it is now goes back to liberalism.

One of the main tenets of the US is freedom of religion, hence why we have values outside of following the Christian God. Were we as a country to "follow God" as our main motto, then America would not be a country allowing for freedom of religion.

@Khatru-qk8po Yeah, one of the main tenets is liberalism too. Both aren't good. A right to be free in your religion isn't given by God at all. Why would God give you the opportunity to stray away from him? So, I disagree with the idea of freedom of religion. I think it's harmful.

The 30 years war, English Civil War and Nine Years War was the reason why secularism and atheistic philosophy rose I the first place so the Founding fathers had a context and reason on why religious freedom was established.

Where it failed was when you committed mass genocide on my people. A nation founded on genocide and slavery could never uphold Christ's teachings, so they did not

As an atheist and former anti thiest who's gradually coming around to religion being a moral good I'm really enjoying listening to your opinions on Christianity. What would you reccomend reading from Christian philosophy/theology for someone considering trying to find faith? Or is this a case of act as a christian good in the hopes of one day having a realisation?
