I don't get what's hard to understand about the NBA not being the world championship. Europe has BY FAR the best soccer teams. And yet, when you win the Champion's league you're not declared world champ. And then the winning club goes to play the world championship, they usually play the substitutes, and they usually still win. It doesn't matter that you're better, you still have to win the games.

@@samuelwallace2782 and it's wrong. The NBA champs can't be best in the world until they beat the best team from Europe. GSW were by far the better team in the NBA, but they didn't become champs. Phoenix in 22, 23, Heat in 11 and 14, and so on. Having the best players doesn't automatically make your team better as a while. It's been said many times - basketball is a team sport, and you don't win rings by just having best 2-3 players. Teamwork, chemistry and strategy are just as, if not more l, important to the team success. Lithuania just showed you guys that a very limited roster can win with good strategy and use of their advantages. Yes, it got close and the US team will probably win next time, but if you asked before the game which squad will win 99% would probably choose the US. So until the NBA champs beat a European champ they can't be considered world champs. It would be great to have an intercontinental cup, like in soccer, where different approaches could clash and everyone could benefit from it.

It's unlikely Lithuania is gonna manage to repeat it again any time soon, but that is exactly the reason why everyone is hyped and celebrating at the moment in Lithuania after 7 years without wining any medals at internatiinal level. @@vortexathletic No, because to decide if ManC is the best club in the world they have to play the club world cup against the champions of other continents to make that claim. The NBA is just American clubs with one exception against each other. It's more like the English Premier League or La Liga.

@@loganleroy8622 No, but those are two different things. Team USA and FIBA world championship is about countries competing against each other. In that regard NBA champions can't claim to be world champions. Neither can they claim it for clubs because, as you rightly point out, there isn't a Club world cap in basketball.

I think Nick believes putting the most talented players on a team guarantees winning that is where I think he is clearly wrong. Spain was in the game till last 2 minutes, you obviously didn't watch that game. Wade and Kobe hit some clutch shots to secure that win. Also 2 years earlier, that same team (minus Kobe) lost to Greece in Semi Final of World Cup. So no, neither American team came close to original Dream Team. And if you today send best players, A team, they would still have problems against teams like Spain, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia or Canada.

I watched every game. I said that Dream Team 1 and 2 toyed with their opponents, which by comparison, is different from how the Redeem Team fared in 2008.
But I also felt that winning by an average of 17.3 ppg isn’t terrible.
I did not comment on how the game played put down the stretch. I was focusing on the overall numbers.

The Americans also put their teams together last minute. The other teams for the most part have guys who play together a lot more, not saying they don’t also have their struggles or challenges but the US needs to rethink how and for how long before tournaments they put their teams together.

You're right but unfortunately the US won't ever be like the other countries. 1.The US care less about these non Olympic events . 2. Other countries only have only so many players that can make their squad so those same players are always on the team so they get continuity/chemistry 3. American players are rich & famous so they are less likely to commit yr to yr

I am very often stunned at how dumb some of things they say are. Why does it matter how would Denver Nuggets play against Lithuania? Denver is a club and Lithuania is a national team. NBA champion isn't the World champion because they don't play against any other club outside of NBA. They could be World champions if they played against other clubs who won their continental club championships.
I don't understand where does this confusion about club and national team sport comes from? I guess because US clubs don't really play against clubs from other countries, except Canada...
