thanks for this detailed video, I was able to make the pockets without seams in my first cardigan, even though I'm Italian and I studied English years ago. thank you so much ❤
Really a wonderful video: so clear and well explained. Thank you so much. I'm hoping to set a pocket like this into the 1x1 ribbed section at the bottom of the cardigan I am working on. Although I'm new to double knitting, I think I can probably figure out how to continue working the front in rib. Would you recommend I also work the pocket lining in rib or better to do it in stocking stitch - and maybe even on smaller needles? Your advice would be greatly welcome.
Thanks for your comments. Yes you can double knit in rib, it just becomes a bit more confusing with the Near layer stitches being alternately knits and purls. I would do the Far layer (the lining) in stocking stitch. I would recommend working the pocket stitches plus about 5 stitches on either side on a smaller needle (use a circular for this section). Double knitting is looser than the equivalent fabric in single knitting because of the intervening layer stitches (which space the stitches further apart). Try a practice pocket before you commit!
I wish I'd discovered your video 5 or 6 days ago when I started the project I'm working on now. The pattern I'm using is extremely confusing and frustrating. I'm committed and determined to finish it but, man, it's been a nightmare.
You are correct - double knitting has a different gauge to single knitting with the same yarn and needles. I would counteract this by either working the pocket stitches with a deliberate increase in yarn tension or by putting the pocket stitches plus about 5 on either side onto a smaller diameter circular needle and work it using this needle.
@@LucyNeatby2000 thank you for your rapid reply! I am swatching now for my cardigan pockets. The main fabric is a fairly simple textured pattern but I think I have it figured out. Thanks for sharing this technique so clearly!
How do I knit this with two pockets on a cardigan. It seem like slipping stitches from one pocket to the next won’t work because of the working yarn. I can’t figure out how I’d use this technique and I really want to! Thanks!
Great question. Try this first on a piece of paper and then on a swatch. Knit to Pk 1, make twins, turn and work PK1 back sts, turn work Pk 1 front stitches and then on to to Pk 2 position. Make PK2 twins, turn and work PK2 back sts, turn work Pk 2 front stitches , and then on to left edge. Next row, work to PK2, work Pk2 back stitches, on to Pk1, work Pk1 back stitches, continue to right-hand edge. Next row (RS), work to Pk1, work PK1 front stitches, on to Pk2, work Pk 2 front stitches, continue to left-hand edge. From the left edge, repeat, (work to Pk2, across Pk2 Back, turn, PK2 front, turn, Pk2 Back and on to Pk 1, across Pk1 Back, turn, PK1 front, turn, Pk1 Back and on to right-hand edge. Next row (RS) work to Pk1, across Pk1 front, across to Pk2, across Pk2 front, continue to left-hand edge.) Let me know how you get on!
I am knitting a cardigan with 2 pockets in the round (w/a steek). I love this method but I cannot get this in my head in terms of how to accomplish it.
Hi Judy, I have to find a way to send you some text with pics to explain the process. Until then if you are nearly ready for the pockets please take a look at my Joey Bag pattern on Rav or at LittleBarnStudio.ca
Thank you. I'm going to release a video later today on the topic of pocket tops. Check the note that accompany this video for more details - this is the link but it may not work until later today! ruclips.net/video/61jBRsli5W0/видео.html

I had been looking for a demo on this for ages. Very clear instructions, thank you so much!
Thank you - do a couple of practice pockets to get the hang of the corners and achieve the neatest possible sides.
Double knitting is such an amazing technique! Thank you for all your tutorials 😊
I think it was the fascination of pockets that really made me explore double knitting more deeply. Thanks for watching.
Always amazing. It's such an elegant application for a pocket!
Thanks for being such a regular viewer!
Just what I was looking for. Thank you!
You are welcome!

Would this work when knitting in the round?

Hopefully things are getting easier by now. I'm delighted that you have found my channel - wishing happier stitches in the year ahead.
Will the tension in the pocket area public side vary from the rest of the cardigan if I just use the same needle size for the double knitting?

It is possible to work this in the round. I’ll try to post details tomorrow.
