I think Remco cracked yesterday and when he realized that he could no longer contend for GC, he took it easy losing so much time that Jumbo would let him go on today's escape stage, which he did magnificently. This reminded me of Yates' dominance in Giro a few years back when he sprinted and won 3-4 stages before he cracked badly and Froome launched 60+ km attack to win the stage and the Giro as well. This also reminded me of Pogacha who cracked on this year's TdF "I was dead" but still came second as he was paced by Soler to the finish, totally spent. Even the best could crack, so Remco was no exception.

If he still had been a contender in the GC or if any contender in the GC had tried a break away in full force, TJV would have easily wheeled them in again. They're in total control and nothing happens unless they let it happen. Giving Remco the chance to win today is often what is done by TJV for great riders after they crack - they did the same in the TdF with Pogacar. Lmao 😂
Against the best GC riders (bar Pogacar) in the world he ships 6 minutes on the first climb and finishes close to 30’ off the lead by the end of Stage 13.
Remco is not in the same echelon as the best in the business going on results to date.
He and his father talk a big game, but in GTs against real competition his legs have failed to deliver on the PR.

The only man that can defeat this Jumbo Visma team is Tadej.
Remco, Ayuso and João can't do it
