For me either Pogi is fighting off an infection or he's struggling badly in the heat. The way he speaks after the race it sounds like heat exhaustion, he must be struggling to rehydrate and refuel after each stage he's sinking further in that hole. It would explain why he's struggling to focus and winds up chopping his own front wheel in the peloton.
A great tour that showed Vingegaard's continued evolution as a cyclist and excelling in every domain. From two years ago when he dropped Pog on Ventoux we knew he had it in him and he's certainly delivered this year. For me the main thing is that Jonas and Jumbo had a very selective build-up to Tour, while Pog had a busy Classics campaign, and then of course a month off to recover from a wrist fracture. That plus losing time early on meant he was probably expending more energy trying to gain back time each day. I love that Pog is a bike racer to his core, but I wonder if him and his team will change his build-up to the Tour for future years.

@@mcslayerdk The consensus 13 months ago was that Pogacar was the ultimate cyclist. I agree, that is not the truth any longer. Vingegaard (and JumboVisma) has shown that being the best overall takes a lot more than having a good sprint on mountain finishes.
I'm Danish and obviously supports jonas and Jumbo, but I'm absolutely gutted to see the tour be won this way. Pogi and Jonas really put on a fight and it's been a pleasure to see this great rivalry and close fights. They've been so entertaining to watch through out every stage and the tdf23 is for sure for the history books. This is not the way I hoped to see Jonas win the tour, but congrats to jumbo anyway. I hope to see Tadej back at his best in tdf24 to even more epic battles between these two
Be proud, when your rival is weak, you strike to win. Jonas has been overly sporting last year and this year. Pogi didn't have the form and suffers badly when it's high, long, and hot.
Danish too, not obsessed with weakness in any way or form like the country are, which will be the undoing of the Danish nation. So nice going Jonas. Today's stage winner, very tough going.
Mate, your videos are terrific. I've really 'discovered' the TdF this year, and your highlights and commentary are the first thing I go to when I wake up in the Aussie morning. Love the humour as well: "O'Connor doesn't want to have a slice of pizza." haha. Nice job and thank you.
Well, last year Jonas had to deal with a crash and both Roglic and Kruijswijk retiring during the tour as well as van Aert fighting for the green jersey. In regards to his domestiques, it went way smoother compared to last year.
Pogi did amazing considering the injury, but it should have been expected that he will probably not be able to last 3 weeks. Amazing effort nevertheless. Jonas was just perfect. And honestly the whole team of Jumbo, I'm just sad Wout is still stage-less, but that can still change.
Vingegaard said around a week ago to the Danish media, that this stage and perhaps also to a lesser extend stage 16 would be decisive of who was going to win the tour. It would seem that he was right. According to a Danish TV expert/former tour rider who was out there himself to get a "feel" of stage 16. he got passed several times by Jonas, who was out there doing the most difficult parts more than once, to be even more prepared. Pogacar on the other hand spend most of that day resting, and he has done no other time-trials this year, to prepare for this, unlike Jonas. Jonas has simply been more focused, better prepared and taking advantage of his lower weight and having refined his technique, leaving Pog's brute force behind.
@@zikaperic2133 .. No such thing. Jonas is a genuine Viking, which has always been about a cynically tireless cool minded preparation and focus on just one task, no matter the opponent. All respect to Pogacar, but he has been just slightly too easy going regarding his preparation and weight, which has been his downfall.
Yeah, I saw that clip. It seemed to me, that Jumbo Visma really had figured out, how this tour would unfold and where to attack. But even though Jonas prepared so hard, I doubt anyone could foresee just how good Jonas would be on that stage!
For the last week, TJV have been riding like maniacs and until yesterday it looked like it was going to kill them before it cracked Pog. It is now clear that long, hot stages will kill Pog's legs. Sad to see it frankly, but honestly you have to give credit to Jumbo for taking the long and pounding it every day.
Like last year: Jumbo spending the first 2 weeks in draining the energy out of Tadej, and then just waits for the right time to the final kill. Maybe Tadej have been to ambitious in the races in the spring, and now there is a price to be paid.
Honestly, as a dane furiously rooting for Vingegaard, I was heartbroken to hear Pogis voice on the UAE team radio. Their rivalry is not like others from past tours. They respect each other, and they know that they make each other better. The best kind of enemies. And thus, deep down, I wanted the tour to be decided within seconds. Pogi is a class all of his own, and he deserves all the praise that he gets and more. Perhaps the later stages were just better for Vingegaard, or perhaps Pogi peaked to early. But oh my what a battle the two have had, and I can not wait to see their battles ahead! We are living in a golden age of the sport, ane we should all appreciate that! ❤
Suddenly "O'Connor doesn't want a slide a pizza" (4:38) thrown in the midst of all of the hastily spoken commentary and suspense. Also "Kuss licking his lips" (5:00) was hilarious!
What an effort from Pogacar. Still that far on the front. I feel sorry for him - he is such a talent and make so much good work. Thank you for giving us so many emotions, Mr Pogacar!
I think Galls riding today was so strong, really great to watch such a young rider winning this kind of a stage, hopefully the first big victory with many to follow
I really think something went very wrong with his diet, fatigue buildup, or something like that and his implosion wasn't caused by what Jumbo did today. Jonas's excellent performance was magnified by the fact that Tadej had a very bad day
I just love Tadej and Jonas' rivarly. Its beautiful to watch to future great champions fight with such panache and respect for each other. Its a pity Tadej had such a bad day, but we'll be watching these 2 fight for years.... chapeau
In line with the title of the video, today marked the culmination of a perfectly executed plan from TJV to crack Pogacar. It started 2 weeks ago, when Jonas effortlessly opened a 50" gap with Tadej. Until last Saturday, he let Tadej use every chance he had to attack, and they let him shorten the gap slowly, basically consuming much more energy that it would have taken in a single stage, recall Puy de Dome for instance. I think TJV had perfectly calculated that Jonas would never lose the maillot jaune. Last Saturday, Jonas recovered in the easiest possible way 1" without wasting much energy, and on Sunday he showed how well his legs were, but anyway still decided to hold back and go all in after the last rest day in optimal conditions. These last 2 weeks, Tadej instead was made to believe he was chasing actually a real chance to claim the maillot jaune, and in the decisive stage, he didn't have anything left in his legs after two weeks full of attacks, one after the other. All UAE bought the TJV bluff from the very beginning.
It was evident after the stage on sunday that TP couldn't drop JV anymore. JV saved his power and crossed the line beside him. Just to let him know he was much stronger, but waiting to unleash it all in week 3. And boy do he just do that ! The TT showed TP the power of JV and he knew he was in big trouble for the extreme mountain stage the next day. The first 2 weeks JV used just enough energy to keep the yellow jersey, he knew the showdown was to come in week 3. A true champion, controlling the race. Chapeau Jonas Vingegaard !!!
1-2 weeks is so fun to watch.. bcoz of so close battle.. but after ITT and now queen stage.. so boring now for the yellow jersey... but good job pogi see you next year..comeback sronger..and plss..training in a long climb thats your weakness... for jonas many people underated your strenght..and now you show them all whos the monster.. nice... amazing effort and strenght..salute🙌🙌🙌🚴💪🚴
Feels bad for Tadej 😢 he's always been an upbeat kinda guy, always joking around but he looked really distressed, much more than last year. As a Pogi fan, I'm really sad for him... Chapeau to Jonas, that was on hell of a ride 🤯
Gall now 6 points behind Ciccone on KOM. This tour keeps on giving. As a BORA-fan gutted, that Jai didn't jump in the break. He looked pretty solid at the end.
It's a weird sort of irony how he moved into yellow through a breakaway and now despite being probably 3rd or 4th strongest before the crash he has ended up down in 7th because other guys got in the break. Well at least it's not Guillaume martin 😂
This was an astonishing stage! I mean really. I am in such a hard place because i love Pogi and Jonas.... so i can't be so excited for Jonas when Pog crashes and feels defeated. side note: I literally choked on my spit at 4:40 😂😂😂
I feel you, I root for Jonas but mainly because I root for Jumbo because of WvA. I like both Jonas and Tadej and I was not happy watching Tadej suffer so much.

I am happy that Jonas tested negative for doping throughout 4 different tests in the past two days. He is just a pure high performing athlete. Such a great addition to the sport! I hate that the French media, despite the evidence being against them, still are accusing him for doping. Untastefull.
I told a friend early in the race (probably week 1) that the way he was doing big flamboyant attacks at the end of hard sustained efforts could be what loses it for him in week 3... Here we are.
Pogacar Fans here, But Vingegaard and his team Visma Buried Pogi alive.... This stage is the final nail in Pocagar Coffin! A few months before the tour my fellow riding buddy said you never know what Vingegaard is capable and is simply hiding and saving his strength in the coming tour ... and he is spot on!
All the prior stages of Pogacar attacking really took his energy out of him. His cracking wasn’t just the result of this stage, but he’s been a real fighter. I’d admire his efforts more now knowing that he is human. He will be back again.
As a dane, im glad, but not happy. I wished to see the two fighting to the end, perfect scenario would be Jonas winning by 7 seconds in Paris over Pogi, after 21 tough fights. Today was a sad day, the world best cyclist lost to the world best GC cyclist. I hope Jonas wins now, so we can look foward to 2024, hopefuly with Ayuso, Almeida and Remco. Hats off Tadej
I agree, first in his gracious acceptance of being demoted to super-domestique for the past week and secondly that prolonged effort setting pace in the breakaway that launched Felix Gall
It's just that Jumbo made the Tour so so so hard that Pogacar is just empty. He doesn't have the base he would've wanted because of the wrist injury. They did an analysis of their opponents and they striked when they needed to. The third week never lies ;)
Cant help but feel yesterday’s satge hit him mentally too deeply. After what we’ve been seeing the past 2 weeks it’s the only explanation I can think of, Vingegaard was ridiculously superior and Tadej is probably not used to being overwhelmed like that. Hope this only makes him hungrier than ever and next year qe get the TdF final week we were hoping for this year
i am from Denmark, and sad about what was happen to Pogi today, I real like look this race when they is close, and don,t care who of them Pogi/Jonas there win, but hopefull they come back next year, and give us that they gave us the first 2 weeks, but this time 3 weeks close fight
I was rooting for Vingegaard but I am gutted for Pogacar! What a great tight race up until now. Jumbo Visma's tactics/team work are still better than UAE. UAE is going to have to give Pog the support he deserves in order to get the results he truly earns. It just hurts me to see a great champion and humble man get hurt like this. Bravo to the two champions and I hope we can see them fight at the top for years to come!
Thanks Patrick, I listen to all the Pods and watch all your videos. It really makes the racing so much better and more informative and with an excellent touch of humour.
Thx LR! Clearly a pristine Tour prep for Jonas, and what a day for Gall! Pog is still the baller - he wins Fleche, Amstel, the Ronde, top 5 at Sanremo, broken wrist...hard to compete w/Jonas's trajectory after that much action. He'll be back!
Your rigtig poggi can winn everywhere, thaths why jonas fokus on one race , the tour, you cant have everything , by the way , he has been ok strong in al previus tours🙃 next year maybe a New flok of talent Will Bee there, this tear it was vinge
Everybody loves both riders, even here in Denmark most people love Pog, this is the first time ever in the tour where I would be cheering for a direct rival if Jonas for some reason failed. Glad Jonas seems to be on top but also feel a tad sorry for Pog, that´s sport though, only in our hearts can there be two or more winners.
Pogi has started to crack last Friday, yesterday during tt he was pulling faces. When he unizpped his jersey today on the last climb I knew it's over. Lack of racing days before TdF. Shame, I was hoping for 'last fight' :)
@@maurodebaets Maybe the reason is, he raced all year long, and people kept telling him how great he was. I think his broken wrist probably helped him somewwhat, as it made him take a step back from racing. No matter who you are, you only have so many matches to burn in 1 year. Pogi burned a lot early on.
Accumulated fatigue is what finally broke Pogacar. Jumbo Visma have been upfront about the overall strategy for the TdF: Make the race as hard as possible in order to break Pogacar. Pogarcar may be the best allround rider, but he doesn't have the durability or stamina of Vingegaard who seems to get better the further into a Grand Tour he gets.
I was rooting for Jonas, but it was sad to see Pogi to go like that saying he was dead. He's quite the character and the respect he keeps with his rival is beautiful! The gap will not tell the whole story of this tour.
I am a jonas fan but seeing tadej suffer like that made me sad Hope he will recover in the next stages especially stage 20 because if he don't i am afraid ineos will do to him what they did with S.Yates in the giro 2018 stage 19
Human after all...TBH he's been looking "sick" for several days, even on Joux Plane he looked ghostly. After being crushed yesterday everything just unraveled. A spectacular collapse that's seldom seen in GTs (apart from Yates at the 2018 Giro of course).
Jonas isn’t as social media friendly as others and is more serious (some say boring) but I think that is why he is so good, he is completely focused and dedicated to this race.
@@kvltman782 Indeed. But in this regard he has improved a lot since last year. At least in the celebration following his second TdF victory, it seems like he is a lot more talkative and used to the massive attention following a TdF victory.
It happens. Jonas is the best rider in 3 weeks at the moment. Obviously tadej is not far behind, he will comeback stronger at next year tour. It will be also nice to see them at the giro and vuelta in the future, i think both will win this races one day.
What is really interesting is the current narrative on Pogi. He was unfortunate, ill or had bad preparation. Not a lot of people talk about Vingegaard being the superiour GC rider. Could this actually mean that next year Vingegaard will be going into his second title defense and still being considered the underdog
Jonas is all in on TDF peaking once, Pogi goes for classics peaking twice. Jonas also overall better climber (except 1-2 explosive 🧨 km) and excellent at TT … good combo for GT.
2 wins so far this year (won't jinx it and call tdf just yet) First Itzulia Basque country, then Criterium du Dauphine. So I'd say he's peaked twice already.
What happened was that TP overspent himself on the TT the day prior. Also TPs weaknesses is to keep up the strength in the long run where that is JVs opposite. Last year we saw the same happen. TP is a great rider but this year he lacked training, especially altitude training. He broke his wrist and while recovering he could not prepare himself as he otherwise would have. I beleive the biggest reason for TPs collapse was lack of training most of any of the other factors mentioned above. Next year will be different and the fanatic duel between JV and TP will get more chapters added to it.
Hitting the deck made things lots worse for Pogacar, but that error, so out of character for him, appears to be a loss of focus due to fatigue. Had he not gone down he still would likely have given up major time to JV.
Great content. I just feel that JV was "cracking" Pogi for 2 weeks. They made the race super hard knowing POGI is 2 impetuous and will go for all the bonus seconds. Burning up himself while JV knew he did not have the depth of fitness to deal with the 3rd week.
I was disappointed you didn't have the Pello Bilbao highlight punching that buffoon "fan" in the head. I hope that guy was seeing stars. I understand the excitement of the fans, but they're really disrespectful to the cyclists...using flares and impeding their ability to pass. Luckily the debacle with Jonas the car/motorbike/fans didn't change anything on the stage. I think the riders should be given tazers. Great job Jonas and my boy Sepp Kuss doing his thing...i loved Sepp's huge smile on the final climb before the finish...what a team player! Up the Jumbo Visma boys 🌕🌑🌕
I think alot of people discounted pogis lack of training from his broken wrist. He was looking great but it obviously had a substantial toll. No doubt he'll look much better next year
I think Pog's aggressive/reckless tactics along with some sickness caught up with him...TJV has been really turning the screws and it is paying off...Jonas has rode a perfect race
That is also why people like Pogi. But his style is not a big issue. Pogi has strong attacks as a GC rider while others, including Jonas, cant keep up with. Before the ITT, they are so close and ITT ends everything.
@@lsh19930713I think Jumbo is betting on these explosive attacks. I mean, sure he dropped Jonas and won some seconds, but at what cost. You can't keep doing these sprints and not expect getting tired in the third week.
thisss, sometimes ppl forgot pog are human too.. he can break and not have energy... But we all know, those explosive sprint are dangerous.. maybe like two edged sword
If you see Pogacar unzipping his jersey it is a telltale sign he is cooked and done for the day. Also it looks he really doesnt like heat for his team to invest in pouring water down on him all the time. Pogacar knew it after the TT, he wasn't with it in his head from the start and that caused his fall that took another % from him, but it was allready a lost battle for him before.
Says something about how superb Pogacar & VIngegaard have been in TourdeFrance when Pogacar can go down like this and lose almost 8 minutes to the stagewinner and 6 minutes to Jonas, and still have podium2 with a decent margin. Pogacar better keep it together on the last mountainstage, as that P2 is so much his and he needs to be there..
I'm not a fan of anyone. Because i lived in Denmark i found it really cool vingegaard won last year. But damn Pogacar is such a sympathic and humble guy. Hard to not like him at all. Kinda feel gutted for him :/

Danish too, not obsessed with weakness in any way or form like the country are, which will be the undoing of the Danish nation.
So nice going Jonas.
Today's stage winner, very tough going.
Same here. Hope to see tadej pogacar back next year even better.
Him and jonas are writing history together

Mate, your videos are terrific. I've really 'discovered' the TdF this year, and your highlights and commentary are the first thing I go to when I wake up in the Aussie morning. Love the humour as well: "O'Connor doesn't want to have a slice of pizza." haha. Nice job and thank you.
Well done to Pogi! Kept this Tour absolutely entertaining
I thought Roglic not going would make Jonas' life very difficult. Enormously wrong.
the danish mutant doesn't actualy need any help
@@Quanbe77 i can see.
I THOUGHT likewise lol, that's why we're not tour directors
Vingegaard said around a week ago to the Danish media, that this stage and perhaps also to a lesser extend stage 16 would be decisive of who was going to win the tour. It would seem that he was right. According to a Danish TV expert/former tour rider who was out there himself to get a "feel" of stage 16. he got passed several times by Jonas, who was out there doing the most difficult parts more than once, to be even more prepared.
Pogacar on the other hand spend most of that day resting, and he has done no other time-trials this year, to prepare for this, unlike Jonas. Jonas has simply been more focused, better prepared and taking advantage of his lower weight and having refined his technique, leaving Pog's brute force behind.
you forgot to say that is also taking a lot fish oil which is rich in omega 3 which makes him so strong
And to Jonas for being the better rider, being able to keep going and just getting better each year. He's more professional I'd say.
No pizza slice for Pogacar cost him an easy stage win
I was laughing bigtime at the pizza offering moment, classic.
😂
He wanted thin crust.
Pizza pie in the sky. The slice of pie would have been the deciding factor if Pog decided to chomp it down.
@@donhuber9131 or maybe he's one of those purists who hates ham & pineapple
Like last year: Jumbo spending the first 2 weeks in draining the energy out of Tadej, and then just waits for the right time to the final kill. Maybe Tadej have been to ambitious in the races in the spring, and now there is a price to be paid.
Teddy burned a lot of matches early in the year and the crash cost him critical training races and time.
Exactly, the strategy is to make him do these explosive sprints over and over and then win in the third week.
This is exactly why Jumbo is the better team. Good riders and excellent planning.
The Kuss comment got me, too 😂 I don’t know how LR even spots this stuff but it’s priceless

This stage was really incredible, a bit sad to see Pogacar dying so hard, but still such an impressive performance over the course of the tour.
That was incredible to watch
Actually he is not that young compared to some others like Pogacar... But yes it was a fantastic performance.
Gall is 25. Not really that young
He won a TDS stage already this year.
He Will win many races , but I dont think he Will be a contedor for the tour , unless he wil improve in tt
I really think something went very wrong with his diet, fatigue buildup, or something like that and his implosion wasn't caused by what Jumbo did today. Jonas's excellent performance was magnified by the fact that Tadej had a very bad day
Watched every stage bar 1 on this tour, and this is still the best TDF content there is, including the live viewing.
Pogacar was very classy in that interview. Great sportsman and role model, it seems.
Thanks Jonas & Pogi for the awesome Tour 👍

Chapeau to Jonas, that was on hell of a ride 🤯
Gall now 6 points behind Ciccone on KOM. This tour keeps on giving.
As a BORA-fan gutted, that Jai didn't jump in the break. He looked pretty solid at the end.

@@franzroth2830 No, for sure no chance to win this, but he could have made up some places or at least not drop further down.
It's a weird sort of irony how he moved into yellow through a breakaway and now despite being probably 3rd or 4th strongest before the crash he has ended up down in 7th because other guys got in the break. Well at least it's not Guillaume martin 😂
Jumbo just broke him all throughout the race they gradually snapped his elastic. Looks like they got everything spot on

I told a friend early in the race (probably week 1) that the way he was doing big flamboyant attacks at the end of hard sustained efforts could be what loses it for him in week 3... Here we are.
I am a huge Pogi stan and im sad about the result but somehow this very human view of Pog makes me like him even more.
Same last year , I dont think he gas realitet that jonas is best in late game cource hies recovery
It would be great if Bernal could recover back to top form too.

Almost cried when I saw how disappointed pogi was even tho I’m a Jonas STAN
Cant help but feel yesterday’s satge hit him mentally too deeply. After what we’ve been seeing the past 2 weeks it’s the only explanation I can think of, Vingegaard was ridiculously superior and Tadej is probably not used to being overwhelmed like that. Hope this only makes him hungrier than ever and next year qe get the TdF final week we were hoping for this year

At the bottom of the last climb Pog looked like he was suffering, you could see it in his eyes during the stage.
Pogi has started to crack last Friday, yesterday during tt he was pulling faces. When he unizpped his jersey today on the last climb I knew it's over. Lack of racing days before TdF. Shame, I was hoping for 'last fight' :)

Pogi looked spent man. At least he didn’t quit. On to 2024. Congratulations to Jumbo.
He's was already psychologically broken from the ITT. Add to that a fall today and not the ideal lead up to the Tour. This did not surprise me.
I wish all the other riders in the top 10 were near his level though.
Great videos Lanterne Rouge.
They didn't force Pogacar to plant Vingegaard on 3 separate stages though. When Pogacar made all these attacks, he made also the race much harder.
I was rooting for Jonas, but it was sad to see Pogi to go like that saying he was dead. He's quite the character and the respect he keeps with his rival is beautiful! The gap will not tell the whole story of this tour.
Great ride by Zimmermann as well! Holding that High Grade Group so close to the finish. Amazing
Jonas's performance is just so incredible !!
I am a jonas fan but seeing tadej suffer like that made me sad
Hope he will recover in the next stages especially stage 20 because if he don't i am afraid ineos will do to him what they did with S.Yates in the giro 2018 stage 19
Yes, he is probably the most boring rider in the peloton to do interviews. But you don't win races with your mouth. Sorry haters.

@@darkiee69 nope thats build up form
Thank you so much for the effort you put in to keep us updated and informed. much appreciated just as alway LR

Jonas also seems like a great person. He didn't have to stop last year, but he did.
Pogi’s early crash was a result of exhaustion. These guys are bonked.. This tour has been quite exciting to watch unfold.
