This channel singlehandedly turned me into a cycling enthusiast, the passion you put into these recaps is really contagious. I was absolutely on the edge of my seat today, what an awesome TT!! can't wait to see if and how Poggy will try to retaliate!
@@esbentronstrm4154yea I am hoping for a crazy pogacar attack next stage but honestly think that your prediction is more realistic. Pog is tired and Ving just coming into form right now (meaning able to recover perfectly) just as planned with the best team in the world behind him... seems unstoppable
From the first 2 corners alone you knew Vingegaard wasn't messing around. And you could see a clear difference between his lines and the way he took his turns and Pogacar's all along the course. That plus the bike change was worth a lot of time already!
Seconded. JV was more focused than he'd been on any other stage, plus you can see at the end that he'd made a bet with himself beforehand: "It's so short. You can max out the watts for that SHORT..!"
Michael Mørkøv said he met Jonas on recon, seeing him go back and forth to try many of the corners several times. He knew how to take every single corner.
@@PilsburyDoughboyEsquire-lu9ij Not sure, of course all of them prepare for the stage, but maybe just digitally or by the profile, but I don't think everyone rides even every single corner several times
Jonas is an underrated descender imho: I looked very closely at the descents the peloton rode down during several mountain stages, and I noticed that throughout this Tour the Dane has been choosing good apex lines and he often got almost too close to the rider ahead of him, as a result of better turning trajectories (for example descending the Joux Plane with Pogacar). Today in this TT he went flat out in the descent after the first côte, taking many risks that eventually payed him back
Exactly, you could see the difference already on the descent from Tourmalet, where Pog had to sprint out of the corner several times not to get dropped
I've been saying this since the TDF 2022. He doesn't use that ability because rarely do GC contenders need to close gaps in descents... but he is consistently showing great descending skills. But today we saw him tap out that daredevilness.
@@MrJohanGuzman I'm thinking this skill could be useful in the future, especially in single day races like the Giro di Lombardia, if Vingo wants to take part in it this year again
Yeah that makes no sense. His compatriot Skjelmose as well. 4 Danes in the top 15. Not bad by a country having just a fourth the population of the New York metropolitan area.
@@MrFleischbrocken It reminds me on Floyd Landis' fantastic and epic stage, were he took back 3 or 4 minutes, sadly he then tested positive... but until then it was pretty much same song: "oh what a great performance..."
The consequences just has to be bigger. It's time to ban an entire country, if a rider of that nationality if found guilty of doping. Sorry but your country cannot compete for 5 years or whatever. Lets hope he's clean. But when something sounds to good to be true, well, it usually is.
Jonas rode this to literal perfection. He also maintained an extremely good aero position pretty much all the way. TJV and Jonas clearly did their homework here. It looked like he'd done the route 100 times before. One of the absolute best TT's ever.
Really proud of my boy Sepp Kuss 🇺🇸 he's not typically a good time trialer...he even said he really doesn't like the TT bike...but finished 14th on the stage, just 3:40 behind Jonas. He's still top 6 on GC and I'm hoping he can climb his way into the top 5 (pun intended) Obviously Jonas was the big story and rightly so...but Sepp we see you bro! Up the Jumbo Visma boys 🌕🌑🌕
Sepp rode really well especially coming off that crash caused by the stupid spectator. He will be called upon to help protect Vin's lead in the upcoming mtn stages. Allez Sepp!
That performance from Jonas was out of this world. Pog looked absolutely crushed towards the end of the TT when he realised that he would lose badly against Jonas. Jonas on the other hand looked so relaxed during the interview at the end knowing he won the TdF with that stage...
@@nielshaug30 i dont see any difference, in 2020 Pog smashed all others by almost a minute and a half... and he never won tt before that... and even now his superb performances in tt are only on tdf... even today his performance was as alien like as it was from Jonas... look the time diff. between Pog and Wout... and wout is one of the best in the world in tt constantly...
During Vingegaards celebration, Mads Pedersen told Vingegaard to not be so humble and the he could see how much planning, training and effort Jumbo Visma had put into this TT
Jonas already took 5 seconds just going through the first two turns 😂 his steering was out of this world! So much difference in body language between him and Tadej.
Just watched highlights from TDF 2021 TT stage 5. Noticed that back then, Jonas finished 3rd, faster than both Roglic and Van Aert, and almost same time as Stefan Küng who was a TT monster back then. Only beaten for real by Pogacar who won the stage. And not a mountain TT as in 2023 but an almost flat route of 27 km! So all the comments about Jonas "suddenly" performing at TT compared to earlier are not in line with reality. He´s always been a very strong TT rider but has obviously improved even further during 2022 and 2023.
Very true but not only that, pogacar has never won over Jonas in a third week TT. Only in prologues or 1rst week TTs in TDF he is 3 out of 3 better time 2021,2022,2023 in the third weeks TT. Last year he also had the win of the TT was it not for the fact he gifted the victory to van aert. He was up in time on van aert but sat up and celebrated the last 2 ks. Loosing him about 20 - 25 seconds in time checks vs van aert. it was the last stage of tdf and he had then won it. But again fairly flat TT and long, but with some hills. The real thing is people have slept since 2021 on how good this guy is maybe due to his humble nature and never bragging, + his team having this team PR that its the team that does everything team work etc. Which is somewhat true but really also false. As you only need half decent riders to win a TDF when you have the best rider.Only in 2023 are people waking up, some still believe pogacar to be stronger but it was just his wrist injury. Id rather say it was pogacar who was somewhat lucky in 2021, that both Jonas and roglic crashed that stage pogacar won 5 minutes on that early stage in tdf 2021. As Jonas caught up in time and never lost time for the rest of the race.
I was there in person. I was telling the guys next to me that we were witnessing history. No one wanted to believe Jonas' performance. It was an incredible experience. 🎩👏🚀
U cycling fans are so strange. You KNOW that they are cheating yet you guys still celebrate these performances as if they were done legitimately :D I also watch this sport (from time to time) but no matter what they do it doesnt impress me at all, not even a bit. When i was a child and watched Lance i was like "this is UNBELIEVABLE, this is not normal, unhuman, he is so much better than everyone else" blabla. Yeah, later i found out that it actually was unbelieavale but in a different sense....
Vingegaard's default position seemed to look a lot more aero than other riders especially in the curvature of his back in relation to his helmet, and as he rode seemed to maintain that very aggressive aero position for much longer than a lot of the other riders. In a lot of spots where other riders let up and got a little more upright, he stayed down and powered through.
I heard that Jonas did trial runs on this stage all morning, testing the same corners and turns several times, to get them just perfect. He was well prepared for this stage, and it really turns out the preparation was well spent.
Nahh, cut your EPO bullshit, you must have not seen how extremely dangerous he rode, he is prepared. Wout could also win this tt if hed not exausted himself in the previous stages.
If you compare Jonas with the other riders, he attacked every corner, every round about like he was being chased by hungry cannibals.. He didn't change bikes and he rode the course SEVERAL times while Pogi made backflips in the pool. He did bet his life on that stage and he showed unheard technical skills. He didn't change bikes and kept his momentum. The other riders did so many mistakes that it was crazy. Jonas was not only the strongest, the most technical, but also the smartest
@@tongobong1 LOL! Jonas is doped, but the guy racing up mountains faster than Vingegaard is not? You're clueless! My dog's puppy had her own puppy and Vingegaard's cousin's best friend bought it. I know Vingegaard is clean.
History was made. He didnt just beat Pogacar, he was twice as fast as the guy who already was 4 times faster than everybody else. Its insane how good Pogacar's TT was and then seeing Vinguegaard taking time in every single corner
Yes it was un real. That is the problem. Take Pog out of the conversation for a second and it is obvious Vinn is not clean. WOUT WITH THE SAME EVERYTHING lost by three minutes. Worst TT loss of his entire life.
It was clear Vingo was preserving a lot of energy on earlier stages..probably letting Pogi think he is too strong and burning himself for 6-7 seconds on multiple stages...exactly like last year. There are no truly great climbers at this year's tour..carapaz and mas abandoned early, roglic not here, the rest are just not good enough. Pogacar simply was outmatched.
@@HolgerDanske874 really? Not a fan are you? first Bilbao has held the Spanish national Champs jersey.. He is an accomplished TT rider. Has always been good. Has made gradually become better at it. Now Jonas on the other has sucked big hairy sweaty balls as a TT guy finished TT placing in the hundreds just a few years back. Never held the national Champs jersey in fact finished 22nd on his try. You picked the wrong guy and the perfect example of how riders make gains in cycling unlike Jonas has. Thanks
At first I thought this was unbelievable, and I still think this is an outrageous performance by Jonas, where everything just went perfect for him, but I also think that it is explainable the more you think about it: The dare-devil decent: +20sec (confirmed by time check) Jonas probably keeping his powder drier during the first two weeks and fully concentrating on the TT probably adds another 10sec. on the flat No bike change: +20sec JV keeping it aero on the climb while Pog visibly struggling, getting out of the saddle, swinging and (admitted himself in the post-race interview) not feeling to good on the climb: +40sec And having the time trial bike at the flatter end: 8sec (Obviously I didn't check every part of the stage and time difference, so just a rough guess) So I'd say it adds up pretty logically and it's at the most 50% pure physical performance that made the difference.
Yeah, I think it adds up too. A lot of people comparing Jonas and Wouts times, just ridiculous, Wout has been absolutely booting it for 2 weeks on every stage and weighs 18kg more than Jonas....thats gonna have huge implications on a mountain TT. Jonas' descent was pretty scary if im honest, he absolutely railed it and looked like he was pushing too hard several times...no surprising he took a lot of time there. Pog looked visibly uncomfortable and pretty tired too. Also noticed on the start Pog has a cold sore...such things can be a sign of things not being 100% internally. Also worth mentioning Jonas apparently has the second largest V02 Max recorded.....97 at 17 years old... and he's only 60kg. Dude is gonna kill this kind of TT every single time.
@@chrisdawson955 If Pogacar did the same ride you would cheer and celebrate. All the Pogacar fanboys are so sad. Enjoy the ride and don't insinuate doping when you have no proves. He did an amazing ride. Period! Was he using illegal drugs? Was Pogacar using illegal drugs in 2020 when he gained 1.56 seconds on Roclig? Come on man - how would you know and how can you tell? Just because you don't like the outcome then please stop being a sore loser. It does not fit you. You can do better. Enjoy the race and shut up with this bullshit. They are all incredible athletes and Vingegaard has done well in the last three TT's once they were well into the tour. I like Vingegaard but I also admire Pogacar and Van Aert and many of the other riders. I love when they go full gas and wipe out eachother. What a tour. And maybe Pogacar will come back tomorrow? Who knows. Don't be a sore loser.
These are valid points, but what is even more unbelievable to me is the size of the gap to every other rider, apart from Pog. WvA's time was 109% of Jonas' time. He lost 7 seconds per KM. And he was THIRD. That just seems so absurd to me.
Did we just witness Jonas revolutionize ITT? He took the corners like madman. Roglic's final ITT performance in the Giro, was insane as well compared to Tadej smoking him in 2020. We also saw similar performances in the last TDF TT with Jonas able to green the rest of the field behind Wout and Tadej before he slowed down. So believable on more ends than just one or two outliers. I'd personally say the main decider came down to weight though. I'd say Tadej was right on changing the bike for weight reasons but Jonas' overall system weight is so much less so even if he doesn't have the power he could still have a higher W/kg rating. Granted, there was other stuff like the aero losses due to bike change but Jonas still takes it regardless of time gap. And Wout Van Aert in third is well. . . Wout, no-one else has the performance to go after 2 weeks of racing, we saw the same top 3 in Stages 18 and 20 in last year's TDF. I predicted Jonas just needed one huge time gap and defend the rest and well I think we found out which stage that was on.
The gap of almost 2 mins is simply too big to make up for tomorrow. It would take a crash or mech failure from Vingegaard for Pogi to win back what he lost today. Unless Vingegaard has a total off day tomorrow and Pogačar rises like a phoenix. Personally, i think Vingegaard will further extend his lead in the mountains. Hell, not even a mech failure costs that much time. Swap bikes and go. Takes 30 seconds maybe.
You are expressing exactly what I am thinking. I believe what makes this time most impossible for pogacar to make up is the strength of jumbo visma as a general team. It never seemed that any of the UAE domestiques were able to keep up. Still theres some hope left with 5k climbing in one stage! (And vingegaard being tired from the tt I hope)
Whenever I finish working I will just refresh your channel uploads until you’ve posted the latest stage analysis. Great work and love the fact that you are allowed to use ASO content this year :)
Fantastic time trial, one of the most exciting I've seen on TdF. Really wanted WVA to win this, but such an amazing performance from Jonas from the moment he left the starting blocks. Now desperately hoping WVA can win one of the last few stages 🤞
I was thinking the same thing, jonas is going too fast before the climb like remco's second tt satge of this year's giro. And i expected tadej will take few seconds back at the climb. But it was absolutely wrong! The performance of jonas today was outstanding and Overwhelming. So shocked. Just unbelievable...
There are literally thousands of bicycle racers. Riding at the World Tour level is an incredible selection, but then to see what Vingegaard does at the pinnacle of that group today is astounding.
Two stages back for Pogi to fight back. However Jonas looks too strong - and good for him and cycling in general. We need this rivalry between UAI and Jumbo, and I just love that Jonas is so humble and lets the legs speak for him😊
True, hopefully it stays that way. JV Has announced it stops sponsoring in 2024. Hopefully the team and their high performance level stays intact after that.😊
@@mikegeary9231 You know these guys gets tested all the time, right? Nothing out of the ordinary for them and if you didn't know, in Denmark there's been a big stink about getting the sport clean, so they know that if they did take anything, they would lose everything.
@@dippegalant and you think riders of yesteryear weren't tested all the time? Testers are and have always been playing catch up. Time will tell I suppose but I won't be surprised if any of these riders get pinged in the years to come.
Nothing less than a dominant performance by Jonas-he didn’t just beat Pogacar (and most probably cement winning this year’s Tour), he SMOKED the entire field! But ANYTHING can happen, and there’s still some tough climbing left. Great Tour.
On Dutch tv there was an interview with A guy at Jumbo Visma who explained how they tackled this TT from the start of march, with over 30 people at JV that work on perfecting their riders performances this TT. They decided all the way in march they wouldnt do a bike-change for instance, and they have so many analists that almost work like a formula1 team in terms of performance-bettering. Tadej had A great day, Jonas had A super day, but as far as I see it, the biggest difference was the team and the preperation. At JV they make cycling, and especially something they have controle over like A TT, into A science. The difference in money, the millions that Pogacar makes more than Jonas, goes into the team at JV, with this kind of stages as A result.
A critical remark: Vinge didn't take much time at all on the flat part, from 1st to 2nd timecheck he took most of the time on the downhill. You can go back and check, a couple of kilometers before the 2nd timecheck they showed that Vinge was 30s ahead like he was at the timecheck. Vinge however said that he took it a little bit "easier" on the flat part before the climb, but maybe Pog did that also. Pog lost time on the climbs, in the technical corners and on the downhill.
@@stevenmeyer9674 Seen people using that argument against JV and saying he’s cheating because that apparently shouldn’t be possible. So just assumed you were another Pog fan like the rest. My bad if you meant something else.
@@frederikbrandt424 I was trying to comment on JV's bike handling and aggressive riding thru that first hairy turn, i guess I didn't make myself clear. No biggie. it's been a great tour and am looking forward to tomorrow's stage.
@@user-vt4hd8hb4v would be interesting to see Pogacar of he only focused on the Tour. On the other hand I love to watch him perform in the classics as well.
i am not surpriced - Vingegaard would have won the time trial last year, but he gave the win to Wout Van Aert. Vingegaard is a phenomena on a mountain time trial
I had a feeling vingegaard was getting a better and better in this tour compared to pogacar. Going in to today I tought they would be roughly equal, this is crazy!!
I also had the feeling he was holding back on a few stages. Like he had the power to attack but didn't want to take any risks, putting all his chips on the TT.
I had the feeling on Sunday (Stage 15) that Jonas could have taken a few seconds on Tadej. He was saving something... But, 1:38 on an uphill TT finish? One for the ages. i had the feeling on Stage 15
As a Dane I was resigned to the fact that Pogi almost certainly would be too strong today. When the first indicator came that Jonas Vingegaard was smoking Pogi, I just didn't believe it. "That can't be right" I thought. And then it just got wilder and wilder from then on. What an epic battle those two have given us this year.
@@clement1234yep - the medical department did a bit too much. It's a fuking joke on roughly 30min stage. And Pogi already was on another level but Jonas... 😂😂😂 Sure mate, sure... Better don't get caught.
@@clement1234 I can't figure it out why there are so many salty Pog fans. Remember back in the day when Contador's Saxo-Tinko team caught everyone napping in the crosswinds and basically Team time trialled to the end... UAE need a performance akin to that tomorrow to bring back a gap like that.
How we do know that Pogacar did his best! Laurent Fignon did ride 52,2km hour pace final stage in 1989 and Fignon was 3th place that time trial! Fignon did not collapse he was Best form his life!! Lemond and Vinwgaard was better that not means others collapse!!
An ineffable combination of aerobic power and anaerobic capacity has led Vingegaard to the performance that all cycling fans will remember for a long time
I must congratulate you on your use of the word ineffable. It’s only common use in modern English is in theology when it’s used to describe the divine and we certainly saw that today from Jonas as you note.
Seems like the heat really affected Pogi today - found it weird he didn't have an ice bag considering he's struggled with the heat before. The first few meters and the first turn from Jonas was a perfect indication of what was to come. The way he attacked the turns and corners was pure perfection, and his performance today overshadows what an amazing tt it was from Pogi. Pogi outclassing WVA is an incredible achievement considering the stage, but Jonas with probably one of the best tt of all time. 3 Danes in top 10 is also a great accomplishment. Looking forward to the next few days where Pogi has to risk it all.
The heat affected him so badly that he crushed one of the best time triallists in the world, putting a minute and a half into him on a short course. The problem here is not that Pogacar had an off day, it is that Vingegaard’s performance made Armstrong and Pantani look clean.
@@charlesmarshall8046 So we are just gonna be oblivious to all the stages before today? So you are telling me that Jonas, acted weaker on the last couple of stages to not get "caught". You know the top 3 gets tested afterwards right?
This reminds me of Cadel Evans back in 2011. People were wondering how much time he would lose to the Schlecks, instead he comes out and nearly wins the whole TT and claims yellow on the last competitive stage of the tour. Amazing performance from a GC rider who wanted to win more than anyone else.
Unless Jonas is injured or has several bad days I'd say the tour is over. A single bad day is unlikely to result in losing 90 seconds, not impossible but not likely. Honestly, I thought Tadej was going to smoke Jonas today and take Yellow but that did not happen. These two are way above everyone else!
Jonas is a force of nature. He is utterly on fire and is great in the mountains so unless he has some huge issue or a total collapse its all over. Pog will still fight like hell though so looking forward to the battles in the mountains.
As I said before this stage , my heart was with pogačar but reason was with vingegaard. Vingegaard has been real confortable and exudes a calm confidence that is already messing with pogačar's mind. The only good thing about this result, is that it will take the pressure off pogačar and it's absolutely gloves off for tomorrow, that will break the tactical side of things which will be great for the show. With pogačar now with nothing to lose, maybe it will suit him better, but it's not looking good for him at the moment. What an incredible performance from vingegaard, absolutely insane. I knew he was going to be in good shape, but to take a minute from pogi and two minutes from wout, was brutal to say the least.
Tadej had a brilliant TT, he smashed the entire field. Then Jonas comes along and obliterates Tadej...so insane. Jonas beat Wouts time by 2 min 51 seconds, what a beast.
In % terms, this arguably is the single most dominant performance by an athlete in any sport ever. He was 5% better than pogacar and 10% better than the next best field. At this level, that's unheard of - essentially 3x the margin peak Usain bolt had over his competition
I also came to this conclusion, wondered why it isn’t in the media. I mean, being 5% faster on a short TT on this level is just insane, especially knowing Jonas is less punchy than Pog. But these differences really bring up the old doping discussion again…
@@Loekie-de-leeuw You literally have to go back to the early 60s to find the same kind of domination, a time when doping really wasn't very effective. In all the most doped up years of the sport the dominance of a single rider was never so significant, probably because doping more than anything levels the field and removes some of the edge those with massive talents have. So I think this more than anything indicates the peloton in general is cleaner than it has been for many years.
Insane performance. So insane that it unavoidably brings back the doubts and shadow of the past. I’ll choose to ignore it. Crazy battle! What a wonderful looser Pog shows to be, amazing character. Grande Vingegaard, what a deserved champion!
watch the sport without bringing back the past and ask yourself how. you see for me there was only ever 2 riders that actually drove today and that is vingegaard and pog trying to get a few seconds on eachother therefore they gave it all they had but pogi was clear affected by the hot weather + bike change + not taking the same risks vingegaard did. the reason i only said 2 is because the tdf has been tough this year from day 1 and we have a big mountain stage tomorrow and another one soon and noone of the 155 other riders is even close to gc so lets be honest they didnt even try today they saved their energy. Mads Pedersen and skjelmose also said this themselves. ^facts
Vingegaard is a different man from last year. So much more power and confidence in himself, and what sportsmanship between these two. Bitter rivals on the bikes and friendly off the bikes. Truly world class gentleman.
Im still speechless hours after the race..... I have never seen anything like this..... crazy performance, who would have thought, really enjoyed the minimal gap on GC but now its looking almost over, unless UAE pulls something crazy tommorrow or on stage 20. we all know pogi wont give up until the end, so excited for the days to come :)
Same here. I really question my emotions right now. One moment that maybe compares for me is a memory from 2002. i was 6 at that time and was rooting for Germany in the FIFA World Cup Final. I couldnt watch the game so my parents told me afterwards that Germany had lost. Bam. Somehow I couldnt believe it.
UAE and tactics... 😂 Have you seen the roof of Jumbos car and the roof of UAEs car? One has filled the roof for aero purposes and the other carries only 3 bikes, one spare tt bike and one spare road bike 😂 Jumbo knows what theyre doing, UAE just throws money around and hope for the best 🤦
Incredible ride by Vingegaard. Still a few more mountains to come, but hard to see where Pogacar can pull back time. One thing we can count on is that Pog will try, so it will be a good week of racing.
Should have added the part of the interview where Vingegaard said he thought his powermeter was broken since the numbers were too high while he was "holding back"
Vingegaard seems to have lured Pogacar in the long run, letting him come closer and closer in the last couple of stages - then showing Pogacar on the last stage in the mountains that he could sit on wheels, and then today on the TT - he totally showed what he’s made off. When Vingegaard was asked on Danish television 4-5 days ago in an interview - what he thought about the time between the winner and 2nd place would be - he said “it will be minutes”. Godt gået Jonas! 💪🏼
Vingegaard was aiming for 360watts, but he kicked 380watts. In the climb, vingegaard said he was doing 380+ watts, so he was pedaling about 6.6 watts per kilo on a time trial bike.... The last ones to reach such values were Armstrong, Pantani...
When Armstrong dropped everyone on the first climb in 1999 everyone in cycling knew the doping era was not behind them after the Festina affair. I fear that Vingegaard's TT performance will be looked back on the same way.
Called it yesterday (and before the Tour started). Vingegaard is much better than everyone else in w3 and always has been. Secondly, Pog suffers much more when it's this hot and can blow up. Thirdly, Vingegaard's style today should be shown when teaching new riders; the way he attacked the descend, sat locked in, and flew through corners was a thing of beauty. Fourth, Pog might have been a little scared after his own crash and that of his gf. Fifth, was Pog slower than Adam Yates up hill with his bike change? And sixth I think Pog lost motivation in the last three km. He lost too much time there.
The Tour is over. Jonas has won this. And keep in mind that today's stage with the finish at Courchevel, was Jonas' plan to increase the gap between him and Pogacar. People keep forgetting that Jonas will attack on this stage and can add another minute to Pogacar
Numbers don't lie. This is the most significant margin in TdF ITT history. Indurain 1992 got 3:00 over 65 km, and now it's 1:38 in 22.4 km. With a simple linear extrapolation, Indurain should beat any competition by almost 5 minutes to match this performance. Congrats on the superb result but questions can be asked in the near future.
Numbers don't lie he got Wout with the exact same tech by three fucking minutes in 22.4 or just shy of 14 miles. He is not clean. It is obvious. As obvious as Floyd Landis was.
Indurian was by all chance not clean, we know he beat guys who later admitted they where using EPO etc. when we know they didn’t have neither the science, technology, training, diet etc. of today, this is unlikely to been achieved any other way then doing doping. Also the physical characteristics of the riders back then was different. Induraun is an almost mountain compared to Jonas over 10kg heavier, rode a much heavier bike and still got those numbers - put two and two together! The same with Armstrong these where physically impossible as climbers, weight and size simply speak completely against it. Both Jonas and Tadej are about 10kg lighter and still these blokes achieve those numbers… yeah they where all heavily on doping as also been proved. Indurain was just never caught with other then Salbutamol and he always was a slippery eel on the question
You gotta be pretty clueless if you looking at old times as your reference.. Pogacar been taking one rekord after thw other the last 4 years. vs older records and simply because the materiel, and the dieting and the knowledge is miles ahead. stop looking for conspiracies like some n'ttcase..
@@JAKOB1977 haha, Team Sky marginal gains you are talking about? Where are their gains now? I made no comment about Pogacar but sure- he destroyed the field in this ITT but Jonas beat Pog by even the bigger margin. The data points are real - they both are total outliers which is extremely suspicious. I don't buy technology advantage - the peleton itself is much faster because of it. What kind of technical edge gives you 5% margin over any competition? 😁
@@maciejzieniewicz4301 Doping is not giving you 5%, because you be busted today if you used anything like that. Why we went from EPO to blod doping, to micro doping, and most often stimulants etc. it’s 1-2% gain doping today might give you and we went from plus 80% using it to an expected 10-30% in professional sports. This is much lower then the effective gain of 5-10% in the past. There legal stuff that also results in a similar 1%, something we know Jonas ain’t using. But many using it are actually often not top riders, but riders on lower ranked team with less funds and to Keep up some of these might resolve to doping. The top athletes are less likely because of they get to lose the most, run on teams who are far in front, who test their riders more and there legal stuff they are fully allowed to use that result in similar gain.
It’s not available. UAE and TJV are not part of the transparency movement of cycling and don’t share their data. BUT knowing their respective body weights you can time their sectors and then calculate the necessary watt output.
I really would love to see this as well. I sort of suspect that 1/2 or more of the time difference was due to Jonas riding the corners like he was on rails and doing so while remaining far more aero than most of the field. I think he had the better legs than Tadej as well, but his ride today was a technical masterpiece.
Vingegard said to danish reporters after the race that he actually thought his watt measurer wasn't working proporly and measuring too many watts. He was very surprised over his own performance aswell.
Jonas' quads look absolutely monstrous in his thin frame. His body language was also so aggressive. Tadej look amateurish and tired in comparison, which is crazy because tadej also obliterated everyone else!
Perfect run by Vingegaard, he did take a lot of risks but he definitely studied the route and knew how to ride it to perfection. He did take a lot of risks though.
Outstanding performance by Pogacar. He was not weak, maybe not his personal peak but not weak compared to others like WVA. But Jonas performance was out of this world
6:20 The last 15 riders had 2 minutes between start times, not 3. So when Pogacar catches Rodriguez he has taken 2 minutes off him, and in the last few kms when Vingegaard could see the cars following Pogacar, he would have known he was nearly 2 minutes faster than Pogacar.
@@dbk81 yeah i think he needs to risk it all tomorrow and risk collapsing and attack and go full out 5 KM before the end of the last climb. Also if he collapses and lose 1 minut you Vingegaard it won’t matter since he still will be 2nd by a lot…
I also remember Tadej sharing instagram stories from the pool having fun on the off day while Jonas was out scouting the route. No idea if that played a role in the end, but the sheer focus from Vingegaard was insane.

@@benjaminghoula5624 I agree (that’s why I wrote possibly). But I think Pog is the exception. I am sure that professional cycling is far far more competitive in the modern era compared to Merckx era. If we look back on the last 30-40 years, riders have to focus more and more purely on their goals - e.g. the Tour or the cobbled classics if they wanted to win them. I think it is amazingly impressive that Pog is able to compete for the win in San Remo, Paris-Nice, Flanders, the Ardennes and the Tour de France in the same year. And his palmares speaks for itself with an age of only 24. To me, he is the greatest of the modern era already.
@@o.fortuna657 In the modern era for sure he is. Nobody can race and win on all terrains like him (not even WVA) and no rider has done it before in the modern era.
So before the TT people were thinking Tadej would beat Jonas by good or small margin. Now that Jonas won he is suddenly dopped, because he put Tadej at 1'38 and Wout at 3'. You should stop underestimating Jonas i think, just by looking how he climbs it's easy to see how powerful he is, so him beating pure timetrial specialists in a tour, on a parcours that has 2 climbs is not that surprising. Adding the fact that Jonas made sure to keep his legs as fresh as possible during the first 2 weeks.
I agree with everything was written, No one believes that a properly chosen bicycle handling and road visit can give minutes even to Wout's van Aert and Tadej.

From the first 2 corners alone you knew Vingegaard wasn't messing around. And you could see a clear difference between his lines and the way he took his turns and Pogacar's all along the course. That plus the bike change was worth a lot of time already!
Agreed. He watched Podgacar go down the ramp steady, then pedalled hard on his own launch and already gained a second by the first corner.

But today we saw him tap out that daredevilness.
he was FLYING on those descents, I got more and more excited as the stage went on

In a lot of spots where other riders let up and got a little more upright, he stayed down and powered through.
I heard that Jonas did trial runs on this stage all morning, testing the same corners and turns several times, to get them just perfect. He was well prepared for this stage, and it really turns out the preparation was well spent.

That’s classy 🙏
People obsessed with their craft don’t care about anything but being good
At first I thought this was unbelievable, and I still think this is an outrageous performance by Jonas, where everything just went perfect for him, but I also think that it is explainable the more you think about it:
The dare-devil decent: +20sec (confirmed by time check)
Jonas probably keeping his powder drier during the first two weeks and fully concentrating on the TT probably adds another 10sec. on the flat
No bike change: +20sec
JV keeping it aero on the climb while Pog visibly struggling, getting out of the saddle, swinging and (admitted himself in the post-race interview) not feeling to good on the climb: +40sec
And having the time trial bike at the flatter end: 8sec
(Obviously I didn't check every part of the stage and time difference, so just a rough guess)
So I'd say it adds up pretty logically and it's at the most 50% pure physical performance that made the difference.
And the performance enhancing drugs he's on
Yeah, I think it adds up too.
Who knows. Don't be a sore loser.
Off course it doesn’t add up. It’s preposterous. You probably thought Armstrong and Pantani were legit.
I predicted Jonas just needed one huge time gap and defend the rest and well I think we found out which stage that was on.

love the sportsmanship. Inspiring
Congrats Vingo, fantastic job:)
The gap between 10 and 3 is 40 seconds. The gap between Jonas and Wout is over 4 times that gap. What a performance
I'm hoping the opposite of what happened last year happens.
Yessir. As much as Pog likes to race it seems he's playing too conservative this year. Don't think he'll be coming back.
Exactly
Its all about those great downhill sections bro
It's actually not even the most dominant TT in Tour history, Anquetil was >6% better than the rest of the riders on a TT in the 1961 Tour.
That was the ride of a true champion. We'll be talking about this stage for years.
Yep after the tests come back we will
i just hope for the right reasons but history tells us it wont be
Great fricking job Jonas 🎉👏
Insane performance. So insane that it unavoidably brings back the doubts and shadow of the past.
I’ll choose to ignore it.
Crazy battle! What a wonderful looser Pog shows to be, amazing character.
Grande Vingegaard, what a deserved champion!
...but you didn't because you brought it up...
watch the sport without bringing back the past and ask yourself how.
you see for me there was only ever 2 riders that actually drove today and that is vingegaard and pog trying to get a few seconds on eachother therefore they gave it all they had but pogi was clear affected by the hot weather + bike change + not taking the same risks vingegaard did.
the reason i only said 2 is because the tdf has been tough this year from day 1 and we have a big mountain stage tomorrow and another one soon and noone of the 155 other riders is even close to gc so lets be honest they didnt even try today they saved their energy.
Mads Pedersen and skjelmose also said this themselves.

Vingegaard is a different man from last year. So much more power and confidence in himself, and what sportsmanship between these two. Bitter rivals on the bikes and friendly off the bikes. Truly world class gentleman.
What a performance! Can’t help to feel a bit sad that the Tour is over, and in a TT at that.
And about the PEDs
Should have added the part of the interview where Vingegaard said he thought his powermeter was broken since the numbers were too high while he was "holding back"
Any doubts I had about Jonas were completely erased by this TT performance. Absolutely stellar.
Mind blowing. Nobody was expecting this. Great ride from both of them, but obviously Jonas just killed it.
Obviously. Or smoked it or injected it or whatever he does.
Lets gooo Jonas! Amazing perfromance!
JBV really learned from the Tour that got away and they have really drilled these TT stages now. Beasts🤪
This has been a wild ride. Very enjoyable Tour so far, but nothing compares to your commentary. Crazy numbers on today's TT.
Very excited for today’s stage as well… what a incredible hard tour so far.

You should have said unbelievable cuz he is juiced. That victory is just like Floyd Landis
@@dylangrantz8124 Jonas didn't crack/bonk the day before and then win, that is what Landis did and then he got busted. Completely different.
6.6 w/kg is nothing special for a 60 kg rider.
He lost too much time there.
between T3 and Finish Pog had the second faster time split
Agree with all but the 6th. That could easily be the difference between an aero TT bike or standing on the pedals on a normal bike.
TP did not suffer. When you beat WvA by good margin, you didn't suffer. Stop looking for excuses. JV beat him fair and square
But many using it are actually often not top riders, but riders on lower ranked team with less funds and to
Keep up some of these might resolve to doping. The top athletes are less likely because of they get to lose the most, run on teams who are far in front, who test their riders more and there legal stuff they are fully allowed to use that result in similar gain.
I reallly wanna see the power data between Jonas and Pogi ? Does anyone know, where i can find it ? Massive TT by Jonas , chepau!
It’s not available. UAE and TJV are not part of the transparency movement of cycling and don’t share their data.
BUT knowing their respective body weights you can time their sectors and then calculate the necessary watt output.
It's unlikely you'll find raw power data but VAM and average power estimates are out there. Vingegaard was around 7.3-7.6 W/kg on the climb.
I really would love to see this as well. I sort of suspect that 1/2 or more of the time difference was due to Jonas riding the corners like he was on rails and doing so while remaining far more aero than most of the field. I think he had the better legs than Tadej as well, but his ride today was a technical masterpiece.
You have the factor in the aerodynamics too
Vingegard said to danish reporters after the race that he actually thought his watt measurer wasn't working proporly and measuring too many watts.
Just an out of this world ride
Jonas and Pogi are competing on other level. Nice to see both fighting on each race. This tour would be very boring if one of then was not in it.
Tomorrow will be the deciding factor to the Tour. If Tadej can’t take at least 0:45 out of the lead tomorrow in the mountains then this tour is over.
I think 45 seconds will be too little think he needs at least 1 minute if he want a chance…
@@Gullbrand_ We can all agree he needs to put the hammer down and give it everything he has that’s for sure.
@@dbk81 yeah i think he needs to risk it all tomorrow and risk collapsing and attack and go full out 5 KM before the end of the last climb. Also if he collapses and lose 1 minut you Vingegaard it won’t matter since he still will be 2nd by a lot…
You do realise tommorws climbing more suites vingo right? Its gonna be hard especially that jv is gonna be in uae tail all day

People throw that best/greatest of all time around to casually in all sports I think. He is already great but theres a long way to some of greatest legends of the sport like Eddy Merckx
@@HouseMD519 Best rider ever? Put down the glue, kid!
@@o.fortuna657 In the modern era for sure he is. Nobody can race and win on all terrains like him (not even WVA) and no rider has done it before in the modern era.
So before the TT people were thinking Tadej would beat Jonas by good or small margin. Now that
Jonas won he is suddenly dopped, because he put Tadej at 1'38 and Wout at 3'.
Jonas had this TT and now the Tour in the bag. The IV bag.
