That's not my experience. I arrived to the US from the Soviet Union in 1977, and I remember many many excellent Democratic senators and congressmen. Just off the top of my head: Thomas Lantos, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Samuel Nunn, and Joe Lieberman. Sam Nunn is alive, but everyone else is rolling in their graves.

I disagree, they were pro Israel in 1948 with Truman, and Ike and the Republicans were pro Arab in 1956, but since then politics have changed a lot, and although both parties should be pro Israel, unfortunately the Republicans have lately been more and better supporters as Israel inclines more to the right as time goes.

@@davidguilbertrozenman5025 I I was not alive in the 1950s but my reading of this today is that Britain and the US really didn't throw full support behind Israel until Israel firmly came on the US side in the cold war, and Israel showed they could easily vanquish the combined attack by multiple Arab countries.

A biography of GS seemed to suggest that, in WW2, he was "taken under the wing" of an SS officer, who was in charge of appropriating all the property (artworks, valuables, etc) of the j*wish families who were being denounced to the german authorities. It was suggested that GS had escaped a similar fate, because his german officer "benefactor" had protected him, and had passed his young "protege" off as non-j*wish. I grew up in Connecticut, but left before Lieberman was a Senator. I remember the era very well though, and Senator Lieberman. I was a hard core Reagan conservative, I despised most of the Democrat leadership as anti-American, with one exception; Joe Lieberman. I actually admired him. If any Democrat would make a good president I thought it was Joe Lieberman.
I turned 70 in September & have been an 18 year old Progressive Democrat since 1971 (not this Leftest Democrat crap today).
I grew up during the VietNam war, where the news of the dead & wounded was not edited or blurred out.
We saw every graphic photo on the news.
We weren't protected from it & we weren't tramatized by any of it.
We even saw JFK's Assasination in real life & the Watts Riots etc, etc.
I believe that is why all of the new generations, have no empathy, no compassion etc, etc.
Even as a child growing up I've always had empathy & compassion for my fellow students being bullied etc & situations in real life, because I knew what it felt like to be made fun of & bullied.
I was always the kid who stuck up for & literally fought off my fellow students when they mistreated other students.
Now I'm no longer a Democrat & I do not vote Democrat because they have lost their way today & because of what they are doing to Israel in this war.
I'm ashamed of my Democrat Government & its Polititions!
I am saddened at the passing of Joe Lieberman. He was steadfast in his support for Israel under duress, which made him an man of principle. His passing is America's loss. My condolences to his family.

Good question. I don’t t have any answer since their rooting in leftist liberalism is very deep…. However, 10/7 has been a wake up call for some and the rising of antisemitism is making others question. William Buckley told me that his support of Joe Lieberman in 1988 was the most popular project he had ever undertaken. I have never heard Mr. Lieberman spout the violent partisanship that has become so popular.

Lieberman in many ways is a tragic figure in American politics. He was an incredibly gracious and charming guy. On some issues he was authentically nonpartison and reasonable, but his characteristic goodwill would not allow him to see through the leftwing radicals in the Democrat party that cynically co'opted his political skills for their selfish consolidation of power. Along with Senate Democrat Zel Miller of West Virginia ("A National Party No More"), Governor Dick Lamm and Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell of Colorado, the late Senator "Scoop Jackson" of Washington, and Representative Leon Panetta from California,
Lieberman was among a vanishing cohort of reasonable centrist liberals who managed to find accomodation with Republicans to enact nonpartisan compromise legislation that America needed. He increasingly found himself marginalized by a new generation of deeply radical Democrats who regarded Lieberman as an anachronism, a political dinosaur from an ancient and irrelevant netherworld. With his departure from the political scene, the final curtain comes down on an era of consensual relations between the American political parties as we once knew them, and a new age of bitter rivalry for power and mutual demonization takes center stage. It is a reflection of the deep and rancorous political division in the country at large, rapidly approaching the animosity that preceded the American Civil War. The corrupt politization of the judicial system to destroy Donald Trump has only served to intensify the growing hatred on both sides. Like Israel, we as a nation are facing dark and uncertain times ahead, while our mutual adversaries take comfort in our internal crises, and plotting our demise.

Thank you for the trip down memory lane. I remember all of this. Lieberman drifted off of righteousness and waffled, dem to rep or another way, and he then disappeared. He was marginalized. His potential was lost in his senior years

Coincident with these things was Rush Limbaugh's unwavering support for Israel. Limbaugh wrote, “It is, therefore, necessary that in the pursuit of real and lasting peace, Israel also be free to destroy its enemies - meaning the terrorists and, yes, their sponsors, who are at war with her, and that she do so before they obtain devastating weapons of mass destruction.”

I am an American and I support Israel! The majority of Americans support Israel!
Most of the people in the US are totally ignorant of the vast bulk of history, sadly, because our schools are next to useless for the most part. As Raymond Ibrahim relates in several of his books, particularly Sword and Scimitar, his history of Islam's 1400-year war against the west, Islam has for most of its history been warring against Christianity, not Judaism. Israel has only been a target of Islam since the founding of the modern state in 1948.

In response your history of partisanship in American politics, I must point out that it was not the Democrats who introduced partisan politics to Congress in 2000, it was Republicans who did so in 1994. Bill Clinton's win of the Presidency in 1992 was viewed as illegitimate by the Republicans. Ross Perot ran as a third party candidate that year. He captured more votes from President George H. W. Bush's supporters than from Bill Clinton's, spoiling the election for Bush. Clinton was also viewed as immoral and Marxist. Inspired by these factors, and actualized by the partisan attack politics of Representative Newt Gingrich, a Republican representing Georgia's 6th congressional district in the House of Representatives, the Republicans won both houses of Congress in 1994, which had not happened since the 1950s. Inspired by this success, and led by Gingrich as Speaker of the House, the Republicans pursued partisan politics from that point onwards. The 2000 election was similar to the 1994 election, except that it was Ralph Nader who spoiled the election for the Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Al Gore and angered the Democrats, who viewed the Presidency of George W. Bush as illegitimate, and pursued partisan politics from then onwards.
Clinton won the Presidency with @ 30% of the vote, hardly a ringing majority. His actions, such as assisting the Chinese with their aerospace program - the Chinese couldn't even get their heavy lift vehicles off the launch pad, until Bill stepped in to help, undoubtedly for a sizeable consideration. Same thing with the access for Chinese scientists to our nuclear labs......T-R-E-A-S-O-N.
Much has been made of the Clinton budget surplus of that era. When you take the time to check dates, the budget surplus coincides almost exactly with Newt's term as Speaker...Of course Newt's successor as Speaker, John Boehner wanted nothing more than to play golf with the President, and assisted Obama in doubling the national debt. .The 2000 election was so close that I suspect the Supremes decided it via a coin flip.

there is a youtuber who does man on the street in israel and he says of the over 2 million arab israeli citizens about 95% said they will stay in israel if and when a so called Palestinian state exists. So for those who run around protesting something they have no knowledge of yes there are muslim israelis and christians and they vote and can run for office and have all the rights of jewish israelis. and israel is where they want there children to grow up and they are free to practice their religion without getting thrown off a roof

I don’t know. I’m 73 now but always felt that this country would never accept a Jewish president. At this point, I’d be happy if the USA were simply the Torah-based Christian country the Founders envisioned.
