Very nice info about how the planetary maps work. There's so much unexplained in this game. They made it 10x as complex as Skyrim, but explained even less than they do in Skyrim.
Good video. I came here already knowing the information, but Starfield content is thin. Going to check out some of your other videos. Keep up the good work!
it really hard sometimes to find where the other biome actually is. it seems the generated world has no relation to the planetary map so the compass is useless. im guessing ultra graphics setting would help for improved draw distance.
Very true, the compass is useless for finding these. I have now learned a bit more about this system, if you don’t see a border within 500m-1km radius of your ship, that site will not have a border. These borders split the landing sites in half, more or less, or into corners if there are more than two biomes. The borders will always run very close to the center of the landing site.
@@PegLegKegCraigdude, this is some niche content you're providing. Seems like cutting edge stuff! I have placed two small outposts just so i can have somewhere to build ships & store my huge collection of austentic manifolds & microsecond regulators. But i've started collecting perks for base building now. Looking for that perfect place to build a big one! I appreciate the work that's gone into explaining biome borders here.
It *is* possible to find 3 or 4 biomes on the same landingsite, as well as the spot where their borders cross. Theoretically, you could mine a ton of resources on those spots, but it does seem kinda random where the minable resources are spawned, so three or four biomes coming together at one spot doesn't necessarily mean that any of the resources areas are available there. I accidentally landed at a 3-biome segment once (mountains/hills/swamp), but the intersection only gave acces to one single resource out of the seven these biomes could provide on that planet.
Have you really found a spot with 4 different biomes? Do you remember what planet it was on? By now, I've now found quite an assortment of different interesting combinations, including 3 biome locations, 2 biomes along a coastline, and 2 biomes along 2 coastlines, effectively split into 4 corners, (I put links to short videos of these locations in the description), but I still haven't found a spot on any planet where 4 different biomes line up at a corner. Also I agree, you are spot on. 3 biome sites are great for surveying, but for resource maximizing, a single border between two biomes seems to be a better bet, since it can be traversed to find a spot with all the resources from both sides. With 3, it all comes down to luck. Anyway, thanks for watching!
The sensitivity is basically pixel perfect which is absolute hell for controllers. I have sometimes spent hours trial and error landing sites using this exact method without getting a border because there is simply no way to get that level of sensitivity on a controller. And the compass is useless. Bethesda what are you doing
When you click on the planet map it tells you on the right which biome(s) your cursor is over. You don't have to be pixel perfect at all. I use a controller & i do it all the time. Now when you land & the game actually generates the terrain tile, that's a whole different matter. The biome border could be right under you, it could be 2 or 3km away the other side of a ridge. You might have to climb to be able to see it. If you land somewhere & it's not right & you want to choose another location super fast, use a nav table in your ship. (Battle station 2x2 from every manufacturer seems to have them. Certain 2x1 all in one berths, & i believe even some of the captains quarters).
finding multiple biomes is very frustrating, then finding multiple resources in that area adds to the furstration, i usually settle for 4 resources, because finding 5 can take several hours of wasted time and 6 is impossible, I think BGS only wanted you to farm one thing at a time, very frustrating...as I fast travel back and forth across the galaxy for a roll of duck tape

The unaccurate Map is like a pain in the ass, but thanks for that vid, made me find a spot with iron and aluminium

@@PegLegKegCraig No, only a 3-biome spot so far, but a 4 biome spot should be possible, so I do keep my eyes open for something like that.
just because they overlap doesnt mean the game will generate resources. sounds like a mad mans job.
Any chance to get an updated version with the beta update? I've noticed new games don't seem to have splits anymore.

Conclusion, Bughesda made a shit engine scanner.
They need a pin rather than a circle for selecting landing points. Typical BSG lack of accuracy.
