  • One Tree Planted has partnered with the Icelandic Forest Service to bring trees back to Iceland after hundreds of years without forests, a process otherwise known as Afforestation.
Afforestation projects rely on human intervention for growth due to little natural regeneration of native species. When people first arrived in Iceland, they deforested much of the land to make room for agriculture and pastures. Because of this, Iceland, unfortunately, endured a long history with no forests. Despite challenges like frost heaving, intense wind exposure, and poor soil quality, the benefits are significant. The trees in this region will sequester carbon, enrich the land with nutrients, and provide jobs for the local community while creating habitats for various species.
Through this unique afforestation project, we're dedicated to restoring the landscape by reintroducing the native Downy Birch and other research-backed tree species. Amidst climate change, afforestation plays a crucial role in restoring degraded land, making it more productive and resilient.
Join us we reforest and afforest landscapes across the globe.

Good little video. I've always believed that Iceland's low population yet appreciable land mass could make it a very effective and significant partner to all global carbon sequestration projects.

The math doesn't allow for trees to be the whole solution to climate problems but seeing full, healthy ecosystems and understanding how they benefit us is a good idea. We can change public opinion and need for fossil fuels by producing what we need near us when we share the planet with the wild to get what we need as a species.
We can replace fossil fuels and the stupid monoculture farms and be carbon negative by growing massive amounts of kelp, shellfish, and fish farms across the Pacific using regenerative methods and human waste as fertilizer like how we do for crops. It's just a matter of processing the stuff, getting people to shift to it and the time to do so with pushback by economic conservatives that is the problem.
