In correlation we don't know about whats the dependent and what's the independent variables... When we know we use regression... We use correlation just when we dont know which one is dependent and which one is independent variables..cylurian😊😊

Explaining the results more. (*0.81) means a stronger correlation because it's close to (1). If its (-1) or closer to it, then it's also a strong correlation.
Zero or very close to zero means no correlation.

    • @cylurian

Hello ATM. Good question. The range of r goes from -1 to 1, including 0. When the trend of the data is negatively correlated meaning the data points are trending downwards, then the r value will be negative, but you have negative values from -1, -0.9, -0.8....-0.2, -0.1, 0. Which negative number will it be. Well that's where the definition of correlation coefficient comes in. Correlation coefficient is the strength and direction of the data. I just talked about the negative trend, which is "direction" and thus the r value with be negative. Now, we need to know the "strength". The strength is how "tight" the points are together. The more spread the data points are, then r will be closer to 0. If the data points are closer together then r will be closer to -1. When r = -1, then all the data points are aligned together in a negative trend. This idea also occurs the other way, when the trend of the data points have a positive trend, and thus r is positive. The more the data points are aligned then r will get closer to 1. Good luck ATM.

    • @cylurian

These videos are meant more for step-by-step instruction on the correlation coefficient. I do have other videos but they are hidden away for they are only meant for my students. As you probably already know, correlation coefficient is just really a trend between two variables. Of course it’s the strength and direction of the data. Given the fact that in algebra you use two points for a line, and statistics you have to use all the points to determine if there is a relationship between the two. Which leads us to the next topic regression. With regression you have to use all the points as well to determine the best fit line.
