      @hooyabaaa2 4 месяца назад

      @@macvos Are u serious? Many times you just brake as late as possible to carry more speed, or you just controling the speed, when the world ''modulation'' is important.
      They are not using a heavy set of 4 pistons with the biggest rotors avaible with 200 or even 220 mm with ticker rotors (to control better the heat) because ''they dont brake much''.
      The TRP is the first brand to initiate the trend of 220 mm rotors and accorndly to Sram, every 20 mm is about 14% more torque.

    • @macvos
      @macvos 4 месяца назад

      @@hooyabaaa2 point is that brakes don't matter as much for top riders. Avid used to sell Juicy/Elixir WC brakes. These were probably the weakest pieces of cr*p from any major brake manufacturer available, but were still used by succesful riders. WC wins have been achieved on both Shimano Saint and on SRAM brakes, both on the opposite ends of the boat anchor versus modulation spectrum. Fast riders tend to brake as little and as short as possible (because of technique). A trained DH rider is therefore much less likely to overheat his/her brakes or not have enough power than an overweight amateur dragging his brakes all down the black descent.
      Of course athlete racers prefer good equipment and minimize risks, so they'll use powerful brakes regardless. Give them weaker brakes and they'll large rotors to compensate for that. But give them SRAM Code RSC with 180mm rotors and they'll manage, while I would set them on fire and crash.

    • @hooyabaaa2
      @hooyabaaa2 4 месяца назад

      @@macvos The concept is the same as F1... Brake as late and as hard as possible without locking the wheels to improve lap times. We know that montain bike have areas where you do this, or some areas when you need to control the speed.
      Saints have more power than almost any brake in the market (maybe Trickstar or Hopes have more power), but many top riders will prefer riding XTR´s or even a mix of XTR levers with Saints calipers to have more control. The initial bite of Shimano brakes are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more powerfull than basically any brake in the market (so they feel way more powerfull than they really are).
      Codes ,SLX, XT and XTR´s at 40 nm of pressure in the levers (or about 4 kg), all have similar breaking torque (this is tested in a dyno).
      Pads plays a huge part in braking torque...
      I have a pair of Avid Code 5 from 2008 that still works perfectly, but i swaped the pads for some really cheap ones... I cant even explain how bad my brakes are now, lol.

    I will never understand why people clean the bikes after working on them. With all the sand, it's so easy to accidentally scratch the frame or even a threading.

    Pretty much what I did to my Nukeproof megawatt. Xt in the bin. Eagle GX axs fitted as my XT gear shifts were the worst I have ever owned. Will replace my brakes next as the shimano brake work well but are either on or off... Will go with Hope tech3s or 4s as they give best progressive braking feel for the price.

    I have a Bronson with XT and my Oso came with Transmission. Transmission is the first SRAM drivetrain I have ridden that I can say is equal in shifting to Shimano, both in terms of crispness of the shift, especially under load, and the cassette spacing being better (although I still prefer Shimano’s 46 tooth to SRAM 44). But the battery is a pain in the a$$. I’d happily go back to Shimano XT and the forget-to-charge-free and easily fixable cable. And I certainly would not change from XT to Transmission. Aught to donate that stuff tho to someone who can’t afford it rather than throw in the bin.
