My Mom and her family are buried across from the Old Conwell Cemetery. It's obviously a very old cemetery but very beautiful. I'm not sure what to say about those having a picnic, but I just might do that myself at Mom's site. I have heard of the Mexican tradition of doing that on the Day of the Dead though. She's been gone 52 years now, and I'm 61. I'll never stop missing her. I do know others buried there and sometimes I visit them to pay my respects. Thank you so much for highlighting this cemetery. For me it was like memory lane. ❤

That's interesting. Not to speak ill of the dead or anything, but it was a bit selfish of her. Her poor husband lost his wife, a Cadillac, and $10,000 in under a week. That's rough.
He shouldn't of burried her in their car. No matter what she said she was dead she wouldn't know.

First of all, since she had cancer, I hope they had inquired about this before she passed. To be buried in more than one plot, you have to pay for those other spaces. I guess if I could. I'd want a mosaleum the size of a tiny cottage. Where family can visit me. On my birthday come inside and celebrate and remember me. But that's not going to happen. If I go before my husband. We have family plots in his family cemetary. In fact our plots are already picked out. The only thing left is to purchase underground vault. Hopefully my spirit will go to paradise, I'll be free. I won't be in a hole in the ground. Maybe my body. But my soul will be free. After this life. I just want to be in a better place. Some of our cemeteries here in Australia have kiosks and some have licenced bars. It's promoted to spend the day have some lunch n drinks. Hampers are available for picnics. 😮

Karen crematorium doing booming business, not the way to go,,you hit nail on head when u stated cheapest,,ask why??simple all to save land,,,million or more die a year,,and course more land they can save,well,simple to understand,,how many royals have u heard of being cremated??I don't know any,,no,placed in well treated coffins,and yes about leaded around inch thick or more,,This is all to help preserve body even longer,,yes,to decay naturally,,its said when Abraham Lincolns coffin opened after laying in peace fr over 50yrs he was still recognised,,if exhumed let's say Queen Victoria story be same,,this is only couple of reasons burial fr me,,definitely not questioning royalty on best way to go,,I see u said u may ,eet the alleged God sooner if go by cremation, note alleged,,well,you destroyed Yr body by flames to ashes, so u won't be standing there with no hair etc etc,,but all who buried better chances to stand before Yr lord,,oh,on running out of land fr burial, well,overpopulated in cemeteries even my local one,,I can't even purchase plot,,so there's a factor fr you,,,definitely burial Karen,, I hope I've reformed you,,oh,if royal and majority of celebrities and other v,I,ps chose cremation,,well,even then I'd believed gt it wrong,,oh again, yes,evil money rules many sad lives,,and if cremation was way to go be much dearer than burial that's fr sure,,I'll rest there,,but not in treated coffin just yet,Jim,cvw

I ll take a regular casket lol. I have heard that singer boxcar willie casket was like a caboose. I m not 100% on that but remember when he died someone said that about him. In my area of pa a man who was very wealthy made his own casket. He took all his money and had it put all through his casket. The cemetery in closed his burial with concrete to prevent anyone from digging him up to get his money. If ya get a chance to come to pa we have some intersting burials and few singers. 2 hrs south from me is patsy cline

My family funeral home was in charge of these arrangements. My dad saw a lot of different things and had so many strange requests throughout the decades. This was definitely on top of the list. :)

That cemetery is a hour and 44 mins from my house. I'm a proud Hoosier. I heard about this burial when I was a kid in the 80s. This burial story was in my local town newspaper. That Cadillac was that lady's prized car and the family was wealthy.

I just want to be laid to rest on a nice peaceful day. It's such a waste being buried in cars and other stuff. The car isn't going to heaven with you. I would want my family to continue to enjoy the car and then pass it on for someone else to enjoy. But to each their own , if it made them happy in the end than it was worth it I guess.

I told my wife when a kick the bucket just fire up the backhoe dig hole in the back yard roll my butt in it chuck a bag of lime on and cover it and to say the least she's very capable of operating the backhoe! I remember this well, and also the family business. If I am correct they decorated the windows at Christmas lavishly. My grandparents lived nearby. If I could afford to I would have a small mausoleum with my vanity and bench, family portraits, my mother's doll, and a comfy concrete bed. Better not disturb me! I like my peace and quiet.
You are right. Ray had a very successful plumbing business here in town. The windows were always fun to see during the holidays.

If $ wasn't the issue I would placed in a custom casket with with images of John Wayne on the lids meaning head, and feet lids, & also on the inside not the same images different one's but all westerns he was in as a actor. The bedding I guess? Would be burnt orange or Texas Longhorn colors, or Yankees colors.
